二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   Blue Planet II's latest episode(一集) focuses on how plastic is having a disastrous effect on the ocean and slowly poisoning our sea creatures. Researchers recently also found that sea creatures living in the deepest place on Earth, the Mariana Trenchhave plastic in their stomachs. Indeed, the oceans are drowning in plastic

Though it seems now that the world couldn't possibly function without plastics plastics used by consumers are a remarkably recent invention. The first plastic bags were introduced in the 1950s; the same decade that plastic packaging began gaining in popularity in the United States. This growth has happened so fast that science is still catching up with the change. Plastics pollution research, for instance, is still a very early science

We put all these plastics into the environment and we still don't really know what the outcomes are going to be. What we do know, though, is disturbing. Ocean plastic is estimated to kill millions of marine animals every year. Nearly 700 speciesincluding endangered ones, are known to have been affected by it. One in three leatherback turtles, which often mistake plastic bags for jellyfish, have been found with plastic in their bellies. Ninety percent of seabirds are now eating plastics on a regular basis. By 2050, that figure is expected to rise to 100 percent

And it's not just wildlife that is threatened by the plastics in our seas. Humans are consuming plastics through the seafood we eat. I could understand why some people see ocean plastic as a disaster, worth mentioning to the same degree as climate change. But ocean plastic is not as complicated as climate change. There are no ocean trash deniers (否认者), at least so far. To do something about it, we don't have to remake our planet energy system

This is not a problem where we don't know what the solution is. We know how to pick up garbageAnyone can do itWe know how to dispose (处理) of it. We know how to recycle. We can all start by thinking twice before we use plastic products. Things may seem ordinary, like using a reusable bottle or a reusable bag. But when taken collectively, these choices really do make a difference

1Why is plastics pollution research still a very early science?

A.The plastics pollution research is too difficult

B.Plastics have produced less pollution than coal

C.The world couldn't possibly function without plastics

D.Plastics have gained in popularity too fast for science to catch up

2How did the author support his opinion in Paragraph 3?

    A.By statistics

    B.By quotations from leading experts

C.By using examples from his own experience

    D.By comparison and contrast

3What can we infer about climate change ?

A.Climate change is caused by human activities

B.Climate change is not as simple as ocean pollution

C.Climate change is less important than ocean pollution

D.Ocean plastic is more complicated than climate change

4What is the main idea of this passage?

A.Ocean pollution is a global issue

B.The oceans become choked with plastic

C.Blue Planet II has left viewers heartbroken

D.Plastics gain in popularity all over the world

  • 27、Children like to imagine they are someone else in a game. As a parent you might never guess how it can benefit your child. It helps your child:

    Develop Social Skills

As children play pretend games, they explore relationships between family members, friends and coworkers and learn more about how people interact. Playing doctor, they imagine how physicians care for their patients. Imaginative play helps of a game or to lose a pet, they are better able to help those in need. They become more willing to play fair, to share, and to cooperate.

    Build Self-confidence

Children have very little control over their lives. Imagining oneself as a builder of skyscrapers or a super hero defending the planet is inspiring to children. It helps them develop confidence in their abilities and their potential.

    Promote Intellectual Growth

Using imagination is the beginning of abstract thought. Children who can see a king’s castle in a mound of sand or a delicious dinner in a mud pie are learning to think symbolically(象征性地). This skill is important in school where a child will have to learn that numbers symbolize groups of objects, letters symbolize sounds, and so on.

    Practice Language Skills

Kids who pretend with their friends do a lot of talking. This helps increase their vocabulary, improve sentence structure and develop communication skills.

    Get Rid of Fears

Pretending can help children get rid of their fears and worries. When children role-play the big, bad monsters under the bed, they gain a sense of control over him and he doesn’t seem quite so big or so bad.

1What can help children develop social skills in a game?

    A. Pretending to be a super hero.

    B. Preparing a delicious dinner with mud.

    C. Helping a doctor to attend patients.

    A. It makes them feel as if they were much more powerful than they really are.

    B. It helps them protect people and make much greater progress.

    C. It helps them gain control over themselves.

    D. It makes them more willing to play fair.

3Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?

    A. While playing pretend games, children learn to get along with others.

  • 29、The children in my class quietly worked on their projects. “Nah, nah, nah...” The noise got louder. I knew before I looked up which child was causing the trouble. Stephen had been displaying attention-seeking behavior since he joined our class after his family had moved to town. I’d had enough.

“Stephen, I can’t have these constant interruptions. Please go sit in the hall until you think you can be quiet in my classroom.” His hurt look made me regret my words. I knew how hard it was to start over in a new place. I should have been showing sympathy (同情), not punishing the child.

How can I encourage this unhappy little boy? An idea popped into my head. I put the plan into action the very next morning. When Stephen took his seat, I placed five nickels (硬币) in front of him. “The nickels are yours to keep—but each time you disturb the class, I’ll have to take one nickel back,” I said.

When Stephen acted out halfway through class, I dropped one of his nickels into my pocket. He lost three nickels that day The next day, only two. His behavior continued to improve. I could see he was adjusting to his new life, making friends and happier for it.

Then one day, Stephen surprised me. “Teacher, you don’t have to give me nickels anymore,” he said. Someone in my class had learned an important lesson—and it wasn’t only Stephen.
