二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、Sure, there’s no one-size-fits-all way to personal health. But if there’s a secret to physical exercise success, this could be it.

Whether you want to lose weight or grow high, it’s no secret that staying active is an essential and necessary part of a healthy lifestyle. But as for exactly how much exercise you should be doing, it all depends on your exercise goals.

Still, there are general rules that anyone should follow, according to the personal trainer Tom Mans. Many people show the one thing that finally made them love exercise. “The type of exercise you do finally depends on your ability, goals, likes and dislikes, equipment available, what injuries you have, and how much time you have available,” Tom Mans told The Independent. Sadly, hitting the gym once or twice a week won’t cut it. Four or five times a week is perfect; however, Mans said you should aim to hit the gym at least three times each week in order to see real results. “A frequent gym routine exposes your body to a lot of training equipment throughout the week, which enables the body to adapt, get stronger, slimmer and fitter,” Mans said. “There are many exercise motivation secrets that actually work in the Internet. You can learn them easily.”

“Each exercise should last for about 45 minutes to one hour,” Mans said. His preferred routine includes a 10-minute warm-up, 30 to 40 minutes of weight training, and five to 10 minutes of cooling down and expanding.

According to Mans, it’s best to take a day’s rest between weight-lifting exercises to allow your muscles to recover. You need recovery days for those muscles to rest, just like you need sleep every day. Think of your recovery days as days for your muscles to sleep. Lifting without the proper rest and recovery can lead to big issues like extreme tiredness, and mood swings. So take a day off after exercise, but make sure to have other movements in those days to stay active.

【1】What decides your amount of exercise?

    A.Your intention.

    B.Your weight.

    C.Your salary.

    D.Your lifestyle.

【2】What do the underlined words “cut it” in paragraph 3 mean?

    A.Go to waste.

    B.Bring about tiredness.

    C.Take effect.

    D.Increase weight.

【3】Why should you rest for a day between weight-lifting exercises?

A.To have more time to sleep.

B.To get help from personal trainers.

    C.To do some gentler movements.

D.To make muscles return to a normal state.

【4】What can be a suitable title for the text?

    A.Best ways to keep healthy

    B.Effective ways to lose weight

C.Suggestions about how to grow high

D.How often and how long to exercise

  • 27、Joshua williams was five years old when something came into his heart that would change his life and the lives of thousands of others. His journey began with a $20 birthday gift from his grandmother. She said he could use it any way he wanted.

On his way to the mall that morning, the five-year-old began thinking about all the things he could buy with the money. Then, looking out of the car window, Joshua noticed a homeless man standing on the street corner. That moment changed his life forever. Joshua instantly gave the man his $20 bill in the hope that it would make a small difference.

With this gesture, Joshua discovered his life’s calling to help the needy. At just five years old, Joshua knew he would need help in order to make his dream — to wipe out hunger — a reality. He enlisted his family, and soon they were delivering meals to the homeless every Saturday. Joshua began to realize, however, that he needed a “bigger, better and easier way to distribute food.” He and his family came up with the idea to have the homeless community come to a centralized distribution point. On their first distribution day, Joshua and his team of helpers provided more than 300 families with food. They continued distributing groceries this way every month for two years.

With the success of his work, Joshua eventually created the Joshua’s Heart Foundation to continue his mission of feeding the homeless. Now, several years later, his foundation continues to provide food and cooking classes for needy families.

Joshua and his team have helped feed over 20,000 people over the past eight years and they’re still working to increase that number. • 29、How Much Can We Afford to Forget?

In 2018, Science magazine asked some young scientists what schools should teach students. Most said students should spend less time memorizing facts and have more space for creative activities. As the Internet grows more powerful, students can access(获得)knowledge easily. Why should they be required to carry so much of it around in their heads?

Civilizations(文明)develop through forgetting life skills that were once necessary. In the Agricultural(农业的)Age, a farmer could afford to forget hunting skills. When societies industrialized, the knowledge of farming could be safe to forget. Nowadays, smart machines give us access to most human knowledge. It seems that we no longer need to remember most things. Does it matter?

Researchers have recognized several problems that may happen. For one, human beings have biases (偏见), and smart machines are likely to increase our biases. Many people believe smart machines are necessarily correct and objective, but machines are trained through a repeated testing and scoring process. In the process, human beings still decide on the correct answers.

Another problem relates to the case of accessing information. When there were no computers, efforts were required to get knowledge from other people, or go to the library. We know what knowledge lies in other brains or books, and what lies in our heads. But today, the Internet gives us the information we need quickly. This can lead to the mistaken belief — the knowledge we found was part of what we knew all along.

In a new civilization rich in machine intelligence, we have easy access to smart memory networks where information is stored. But dependency on a network suggests possibilities of being harmed easily. The collapse of any of the networks of relations our well-being(健康)depends upon, such as food and energy, would produce terrible results. Without food we get hungry; without energy we feel cold. And it is through widespread loss of memory that civilizations are at risk of falling into a dark age.

We forget old ways to free up time and space for new skills. As long as the older forms of knowledge are stored somewhere in our networks, and can be found when we need them, perhaps they’re not really forgotten. Still, as time goes on, we gradually but unquestionably become strangers to future people.

1Why are smart machines likely to increase our biases?

A.Because they go off course in testing and scoring.

B.Because we control the training process on them.

C.Because we offer them too much information.

D.Because they overuse the provided answers.

2The case of accessing information from the Internet   .

A.frees us from making efforts to learn new skills

B.prevents civilizations from being lost at a high speed

C.misleads us into thinking we already knew the knowledge

D.separates the facts we have from those in the smart machines

    3The word “collapse”in Paragraph 5 probably means“   ”.

A.a sudden failure B.the basic rule

C.a disappointing start D.the gradual development

4What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?

A.To question about the standards of information storage.

B.To discuss our problems of communication with machines.

C.To stress the importance of improving our memorizing ability.

D.To remind us of the risk of depending on machines to remember.
