二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、Waste can be seen everywhere in the school. Some students ask for more food than they can eat and others often forget to turn off the lights when they leave the classroom. They say they can afford these things. But I don’t agree with them.

Waste can bring a lot of problems. Although China is rich in some resources, we are short of others, for example, fresh water. It is reported that we will have no coal or oil to use in 100 years. So if we go on wasting our resources, what can we use in the future and where can we move? Think about it. I think we should say no to the students who waste things every day. Everybody should stop wasting as soon as possible.

In our everyday life, we can do many things to prevent waste from happening, for example, turn off the water taps(水龙头) when we finish washing, turn off the lights when we leave the classroom, try not to order more food than we need, and so on. Little by little, everything will be changed. Waste can be stopped one day, if we do our best.

1From the passage, we know that some students often ______ in the school.

    A. eat too much   B. don’t work hard

    C. throw rubbish everywhere   D. waste things

2Which is not mentioned in this passage?

    A. Fresh water   B. Oil

    C. Forest   D. Coal

3Which is the best title of the passage?

    A. Waste in the school   B. Stop wasting

    C. School life   D. Rich Resources in China

  • 27、My husband and I recently went to Disney World with our three children. We had a wonderful time. Besides, I experienced something that left a deep impression on me.

Our children were excited about the attraction where children could drive the cars. They were so delighted that I decided to stand beside the track to get pictures of everyone as they drove past on the track.

As I waited for them to drive by, I noticed a car with a father and his son who was about 7 years old. They rolled down the hill at the beginning, but suddenly the car stopped. The young driver looked nervous, “I can't do it.” His father quietly said, “Yes, you can.”

    “No. I can't!”

    “Yes, you can, son.”

The little guy was almost in tears, “I can't!” With deep patience, the father said, “Son, you can do this. I'm going to help you.” A moment later, with the father helping his son, the two went smoothly (顺利地) on their way down the track.

The scene brought tears to my eyes and it reminded (使想起) me of my dear father. Just like that little boy's dad, my father used to say the same words to me. Every time things got hard or when I experienced setbacks along the way, he would say, “Michelle, you can do this. I'm going to help you.”

Time and time again the words greatly encouraged me on the journey. I'm aware that I can't do things under my own power, but the words “Yes, you can” come beside me and give me wisdom and strength. As I benefited (受益) a lot from them, I often tell my children never to say “I can't” easily when they meet something difficult.

【1】Why did the author stand beside the track?

A.She didn't dare to drive alone.

B.She wasn't interested in driving cars.

C.She wanted to take photos for her family.

D.She wanted to rest for a few minutes.

【2】How did the author react to the father's helping his son?

    A.She was greatly moved.

B.She was impressed by the boy's patience.

C.She decided to learn from the father.

D.She reminded the father not to be too strict.

【3】What can we infer from the passage?

A.The author enjoys traveling very much.

B.The author is patient with her children.

C.The author was greatly encouraged by the boy's father.

D.The author was greatly influenced by the words “Yes, you can”.

  • 28、   Recently, my dad and I decided to take a day trip to the Florida Keys, a coral cay archipelago located off the southernmost coast of the US. I was super excited because I had not been able to go anywhere within the past nine months because of COVID-19.

With masks and hand sanitizer, we began our fun journey before sunrise. The Keys are about two hours away from where I live in Florida, so we would get there early to see the sun coming up over the ocean. On the road, we got to enjoy the Gulf of Mexico on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other.

When we stopped by Curry Hammock State Park, I was really amazed. The park contains 1,000 acres of land, which protects mangroves, rock land and seagrass beds that are important to the ecosyst(生态系统) in the Keys. During our time there, we were able to see some hawks flying by, and they followed the Gulf coastline of the Caribbean, migrating(迁徒)from Canada and as far south as Peru. These hawks put their wings out, “floated” up in the wide sky and then glided for long distances. After flying for thousands of miles, they still kept their fast flight patterns.

After that, we went to Key West and visited some iconic(标志性的) stops, like Duvall Street and Mile Marker 0. It was really cool because it is the very beginning of US 1, which is the longest road that runs from Key West to the Canadian border.

It was an amazing trip to the Florida Keys, and it was thrilling to have a change of scenery.

1What made the writer unable to go anywhere in a long period?

    A.Bad weather B.Poor health C.An epidemic disease D.Economic conditions

2Which word best describes the author’s attitude after seeing the iconic stops?

    A.Calm B.Proud C.Bored D.Annoyed

3What is the text mainly about?

A.An amazing trip. B.Migration of hawks C.The scenery of a park D.Protection of the ecosystem

  • 29、Like the move from horse-drawn carriages to vehicles powered by internal-combustion engines, the change from cars powered by fossil fuels to electric vehicles (EVs) will have a profound effect on personal transport. The Epidemic worldwide caused a 20% drop in global light vehicle sales in 2020, to about 70m, but they pick up in 2021. And the proportion of vehicles powered by batteries will grow quickly.

The increasing share price of Tesla, provides a big motivation for newcomers to catch up. Tesla may lead in battery technology and software, but to make those advantages stick, it must prove that “production hell” is behind it. Scaling up manufacturing has caused Tesla its biggest headaches.

Big name carmakers face an equally discouraging challenge: learning how to write software. Electric cars require integrated software, not just to ensure that batteries and motors work together to provide the best performance, but to connect the car to the outside world.

And what of the Tesla followers, from China’s Li, Nio and Xpeng to American firms such as Fisker, Lucid and Nikola? Cash from excitable investors has poured in and it is the same with big name carmakers — as are tech giants, keen to get involved as transport goes digital. Can the followers persuade investors that they have patent technology that will give them a long-term advantage?

Eye-catching Advertisements of vehicles are one thing, but as the industry’s trouble shows, working out how to make cars at scale, when softwares are as important as brakes and bodywork, is quite another. The coming year will make clearer which of Tesla’s competitors, new and old, can stay in race.

【1】Which word best describes the trend of electric cars industry?

    A.Uncertain.

    B.Challenging.

    C.Disappointing.

    D.Promising.

    【2】Why is Tesla in trouble?

A.Its production capacity has become a bottleneck.

B.It may lose its advantage in software writing.

C.Its advertising is considered to be exaggerating.

D.It has to compete with many capable newcomers.

【3】Which statement about Tesla’s competitors is TRUE?

A.Their share prices are catching up with those of Tesla.

B.They are all receiving money from eager investors.

C.Their problem lies in improving brakes and bodywork.

    D.They are mostly well-established companies.

【4】Which is the best title of the passage?

A.New EV Companies Are Catching up

B.The Battle Within the EV Industry

    C.Electric Cars—Your Future Choice

D.Production Capacity—a Headache of EV Industry

    Classical Roman drama

Following the expansion of the Roman Republic into several Greek territories between 270-240 BC, Rome encountered Greek drama. From the later years of the republic and by means of the Roman Empire, theatre spread west across Europe and reached England; Roman theatre was more varied, extensive and sophisticated than that of any culture before it.

While Greek drama continued to be performed throughout the Roman period, the year 240 BC marks the beginning of regular Roman drama. From the beginning of the empire, however, interest in full-length drama declined in favor of a broader 1 of theatrical entertainments. The first important works of Roman literature were the tragedies and comedies that Livius Andronicus wrote from 240 BC. Five years later, Gnaeus Naevius also began to write drama. No plays from either writer have survived. Andronicus was most appreciated for his tragedies and Naevius for his comedies; their successors(继任者) tended to be 2 at one or the other, which led to a(n) 3 of the subsequent development of each type of drama.

By the beginning of the 2nd century BC, drama was firmly 4 in Rome and an association of writers had been formed. The Roman comedies that have survived are all “fabula palliate” (comedies based on Greek subjects) and come from two dramatists: Plautus and Terence. In re-working the Greek 5, the Roman comic dramatists abolished the role of the chorus(合唱) in dividing the drama into episodes and 6 musical accompaniment to its dialogue. The action of all scenes is set in the street and its complications often follow from eavesdropping(偷听).

Plautus, the more popular of the two, wrote between 205 and 184 BC and twenty of his comedies survive; people 7 him for the wisdom of his dialogue and his use of various poetic meters. All of the six comedies that Terence wrote between 166 and 160 BC have survived; the 8 of his plots, in which he often combined several Greek stories, was sometimes criticized, but his double-plots enabled a sophisticated presentation of contrasting human behavior. No early Roman tragedy survives, though it was highly 9 in its day; historians know of three early tragedians—Quintus Ennius, Marcus Pacuvius, and Lucius Accius.

From the time of the empire, the work of two tragedians survives—one is an unknown author, while the other is the philosopher Seneca. Nine of Seneca’s tragedies survive, all of which are tragedies from Greek stories. Historians do not know who wrote the only extant example of the fabula praetexta (tragedies based on Roman subjects), Octavia, but in former times it was mistakenly attributed to Seneca due to his appearance as a(n) 10 in the tragedy.
