二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、Hotels orbit Saturn’s pale orange moon, Titan. Cruise ships roam the docking stations like fish. Have you ever imagined making this future space travel in the fiction films a reality? 【1】

Large companies and entire governments have teamed up to make space travel and exploration easier and quicker. Several countries are planning space missions between now and 2025. Some aim to build stations orbiting the moon. 【2】 Eventually, they maybe build settlements there!

Yet no human has traveled beyond Earth’s orbit since 1972. Money is part of the problem. To put a pound of anything in space costs about $10,000. Consider that the old NASA space shuttles carried 2.2 million pounds (998,000kg) of fuel alone. Once in space, we face the problem of enormous space. Current technology and fuels can propel spacecraft at around 36,000 miles (58,000 km) per hour. 【3】 Therefore, Human astronauts need some sort of new engine technology. Without it, they would not likely live long enough to complete journeys to other worlds.

【4】 Some human astronauts live and work in the International Space Station(ISS). They’re in small spaces far from home. They suffer mentally and emotionally. Moods sour. Depression kicks in. Clear thinking muddies. Fear runs high.

Accessing fresh food is another issue. Today, astronauts eat lots of freeze-dried meals.

【5】 We need those to be healthy. Of course, space doesn’t have grocery stores. Deep-space travelers may need to grow food on board. Unfortunately, good nutrition cannot fully protect an astronaut. All that time spent floating affects bones, muscles, and the blood. The body suffers damage from radiation streaming from stars and supernovas.

A.Others intend to land humans on Mars.

B.Freezing food reduces its vitamins and minerals.

C.Even if a trip fit within a lifetime, it wouldn’t be easy.

D.In some ways, we are on the edge of this imagined future.

E.Frozen food cannot provide them with enough good nutrition.

F.With that amazing speed, spacecrafts would carry astronauts to other worlds.

G.Even at that speed, it would take 78,000 years to reach the nearest star system.

  • 27、There are many traditions around the world that are interesting and fun, but there are also those that are bizarre (奇异的) and even a little cruel.

In Sweden it's common for parents to leave their babies outside to nap (小睡) even when the temperatures are below zero. Many of us would find this custom dangerous, but many Swedes actually consider it good for their babies. They believe that by exposing their young ones to their country's cold temperature they can help their babies to grow up healthily and protect them from diseases. They also believe doing so will help them sleep longer and better.

In Bali, Indonesia, babies are forbidden to touch the ground for three months. The reason is that during the baby's first months its connection to the “spirit” is still unbroken and clean and letting it touch the ground would defile it. For three months, the baby is constantly held in someone's arms―the father, mother, grandparents, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts and even neighbours. After 105 days, a special ceremony called the Nyabutan is held where the baby touches Mother Earth for the first time.

In Guatemala, it's common to see babies being bathed with cold water. Maya mothers commonly practise this bizarre ritual (仪式) with the belief that it's beneficial to the baby's health. Bathing their babies with cold water is also an effective means to eliminate heat rashes, and this custom helps babies sleep better.

Some Indians allow their babies to be thrown from temple roofs as high as 50 feet. This strange custom started 500 years ago and continues to this day, though there's a movement to ban it for obvious reasons. However, Hindus believe that performing this ritual brings good luck and health to their babies. Below the roof is a bed sheet that's held tightly by several men. The baby lands safely on the sheet. The tradition's practitioners and believers strongly prove that it's safe, saying no babies have ever been injured.

【1】What does the author think of the baby custom in Sweden?

    A.It is interesting and fun.

    B.It is unique and thoughtful.

C.It is dangerous and a little cruel.

    D.It is beneficial and practical.

【2】What does the underlined word “defile” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?

    A.Make the best use of.

B.Make something dirty or no longer pure.

    C.Leave or break away from.

    D.Achieve or realise completely.

【3】In Guatemala babies are bathed with cold water ________.

A.to get rid of their heat rashes and make them sleep better

B.to prevent them from feeling hot during summer

C.in order to stop them from getting all kinds of illnesses

D.in order to bring good luck and health to those babies

【4】Why do some Indians ask the baby custom to be stopped?

A.It is a new custom and many people hate it.

B.They think the custom leads to babies' injuries.

    C.They have no religious belief.

D.Lots of babies have been seen injured in the past years.

  • 28、Engineers at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, invented the world’s smallest remote-controlled walking robot. Each one is about half a millimeter wide, which is smaller than the thickness of a coin. It took a year and a half to create the robots, said co-author John A. Rogers. The tiny robot can also turn and jump.

His team consisted of students across varying academic levels who combined critical-and creative-thinking skills to design robots that looked like crabs as well as other animals like inchworms and crickets, he said. Some students found the sideways motion of crabs to be amusing, which was the inspiration behind the crab robot.

The robots, which are made of a shape-memory metal, start out as flat objects, similar to a piece of paper. The legs and arms are bent so the robot can stand. The metal can be transformed but returns to its original shape once heat is applied to it. When heat is applied over and over rapidly, the crabs are able to move similarly to how humans bend and straighten their legs to walk. Lasers (激光) are used to apply heat to different parts of the crab robot to create movement.

The robots are still in the developmental stage and primarily created for academic purposes, but the technology used to make the tiny crabs has potential, Rogers said. Tiny crab robots could be used in performing minimally invasive (切入的) surgeries or assist in the repair of small machines, he said. In the meantime, Rogers has challenged his team to expand on the robot’s capabilities. “I asked the students to see if they could come up with a way to make these robots take flight — maybe impossible, but fun to think about.” he said.

【1】What can be learned about the new robot?

A.It is as tiny as a coin.

    B.It works automatically.

    C.It can change its direction.

D.It moves as quickly as a real crab.

【2】What inspired the students to develop the new robot?

    A.Their academic focus on surgeries.

B.Their interest in the movement of crabs.

    C.Their passion for shape-memory materials.

D.Their desire to develop laser-controlled robots.

【3】What is paragraph 3 mainly about?

    A.How the robot works.

    B.The limitations of the robot.

    C.How the researchers test lasers.

D.The materials used in the research.

【4】What is a promising feature of the new robot?

A.It can repair machines by itself.

B.It can carry out tasks in tight spaces.

C.It can be used for entertainment purposes.

D.It can memorize all different kinds of shapes.

  • 29、Health is the most important thing in the world. Nothing is more important than health. If one takes away our money, houses, cars or even our clothes, we can still survive. 【1】 That is why we always try to eat in a healthy way and exercise regularly.

How can we keep healthy? In order to eat healthily, I usually avoid eating food high in fat, like French fries or cookies, which are junk foods. 【2】 Besides, I only eat little meat.

【3】Taking exercise every day helps us build a strong body. Regular exercise is an important part of keeping me healthy.

What’s more, I think friends are an important part of one’s health. 【4】 I always feel better when I am with friends than when I am alone. When I am with my friends, I always laugh. Laughing is also an important part of health. It is good to stay with my friends.

By eating properly and exercising regularly, I can keep my body at a proper weight and keep healthy. By spending time with my friends, I can keep my mind as well as my body happy. These things sound easy to do, but not many people can manage them. 【5】

A.Many studies show that people with a narrow range of social contacts often get sick.

五、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 32、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

The spot of red was what first caught Randy Heiss’s attention on December 16, 2018. He was hiking the remote land behind his farm in a small town near the U.S.-Mexico border, and there lying on the grass was a balloon. He walked toward it with his dog, thinking he should pick it up and throw it away.

That’s when he noticed the balloon’s string was attached to a piece of paper. “Dayami,” it read on one side, in a child’s writing. Heiss flipped the paper over. On the back he saw a numbered list, all in Spanish. His Spanish wasn’t very good, but he could see it was a Christmas list!

Heiss was charmed. He suspected that a child had tried to send Santa Claus a Christmas wish list by balloon, something he used to do himself when he was a kid. Nobody had ever returned the letters Heiss had sent, but he wondered whether he could find the girl who had sent this one.

It would be difficult, but Heiss had a few clues. About 20 miles to the southwest, just across the border, was the city of Nogales, Mexico, with a population of about a quarter million. Based on the wind direction, he was almost sure that was where it came from. Heiss brought the note home to his wife, who is fluent in Spanish and helped him translate the list. They determined that Dayami, probably a girl, had asked for a doll, a dollhouse, doll clothes and art supplies.

Heiss then posted his search about finding Dayami on Facebook, attaching photos, hoping some of his friends in Nogales might know the girl’s family. A few days passed with no results; Heiss worried that time was running out before Christmas. On December 19, 2018, he decided to send a private Facebook message to Radio Xeny, an AM radio station based in Nogales. To his surprise, someone from the station called him back right away and promised him to post his search on the station’s Facebook page immediately.
