  • 26、We’ll finally grow up someday, leaving our parents and facing the challenges in life. Parents may not be able to solve every problem for us. Instead, we should have enough life skills to deal with the problems that come our way.

This is what our country tries to do now: Helping more students gain working spirit. To stress the importance of hardworking spirit education among students of different ages, the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council released a guideline recently. The guideline calls for students to respect work.Students should learn basic life skills and form good working habits through such education.

The government has been trying to stress the importance of hardworking spirit education. But this has been overlooked in recent years. Many teens do not value the importance of working hard and are uninterested in doing so. According to a study of nearly 3,000 students that was done by Ningbo Evening News in March, only 22 percent of primary and middle school students help with everyday chores around the house.

Schools and families play an important role in teaching students about the value of working hard, the guideline says. Primary and middle schools should provide students with hardworking spirit classes every week, according to the guideline. Schools can also hold activities to give students real- world work experiences. For example , schools can teach children how to plant trees on Tree-Planting Day.

As children’s first teachers, parents should also encourage children to learn how to do chores at home. Students should master one or two life skills every year.

These skills can include cooking, washing their own clothes and tidying their rooms.

  • 27、In order to help change our influence on the environment of the earth, a California-based organization is searching to build an AI language. It can allow people to deeply understand non-human languages.

Aza Raskin is the co-founder and president of the Earth Species Project(ESP), an organization that uses a form of AI to translate non-human languages. ESP wants to use its machine learning technology to understand this important information and make it easily known to the public.

Raskin stressed their purpose to help protection by explaining, “The end we are working towards is, we can discover the non-human language, and decode animal communication. Along the way, what is also important is that we are developing technology that supports scientists and protection.” ESP believes that understanding languages can help deepen our relationship with animals and allow us to better protect them.

In the past, understanding the communication of animals heavily depended on a great deal of observation. Whether it is calls of alarms or sounds made by dolphins or elephants, scientists have been amazed by the different forms of non-human communication present in these animals. With the development of new technologies, researchers have now begun to understand a great deal of data they can get through machine learning.

Elodie Briefer, a professor at the University of Copenhagen, has recently helped co-develop an algorithm. It can help scientists understand whether pigs are expressing positive or negative feelings. However, ESP is doing it differently, by focusing on all kinds of animals, not just one. ESP believes it is likely that social animals communicate with each other, for example, whales and dolphins.

Although ESP believes that understanding AI machine learning data is only one step to full communication, they believe that one day we will be able to understand entire systems of communication.

【1】What is Aza Raskin trying to do?

A.Educate the public to take care of animals.

B.Create a new organization to protect the earth.

    C.Help people understand non-human languages.

D.Search for new ways to send information by AI.

    A.Change.

    B.Recognize.

    D.Explain.

【3】How do ESP researchers study animal communication?

    A.By developing new machines.

    B.By making lots of observation.

    C.By doing research on computers.

D.By comparing different calls of animals.

【4】Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?

五、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 32、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写一段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

When we lived on a farm, a black-and-white Border Collie mix showed up at our gate one day. My young son Alec fell in love with this dog instantly, and within an hour, he had named him Oreo.

Within a day, I could see how he would make a house in a mess. The great outdoors itself barely seemed enough space for him to run. When he was let out of his fence, he became a mass of black-and-white fur rushing all over the place at breakneck speed. He never seemed to be tired of running, of jumping on people, or of barking. His high energy was entertaining, but also wearing (令人疲惫的). So it was usually my husband Gary’ s job to leash (栓链子) him up for walks.

One day in late summer, Gary, Alec, and I walked with Oreo to the edge of the field and loosed the leash. He took off on his normal run across the juicy, green fields and soon disappeared over the top of a hill. My family walked on the path along the fence at a much slower pace, looking for four-leafed clovers (四叶草) when suddenly we heard barking behind us.

We turned to see two unfamiliar dogs speeding toward us, and they did not look friendly. Ears back, teeth bared, they flew toward us over the dirt path. Gary pushed Alec and me toward a tree with some low-hanging branches. “Get Alec in the tree,” he ordered as he picked up a heavy stick. Heart pounding, I lifted Alec onto a branch, and Gary squared off (摆好架势) to face the attacking dogs and give us time to get into the tree.

    注意:

    1.所续写短文的词数应为80词左右;

    2.续写部分为一段,开头语已为你写好。

Suddenly, a black-and-white ball shot over the hill and hit the bigger of the two dogs.
