*Get the right amount of sleep.

Getting the proper amount of sleep at night is important. Your mind and body can reset, which helps you make better decisions when you wake up. This can also help adjust your moods and allow you to be able to get through your daily tasks.【2】 After doing this for a while, your body may start to get tired at the same time each day, which could mean you will have an easier time going to sleep each night.

Try to stop and take deep breaths whenever you start to feel anxious.

  • 28、A study showed that the experiences children have in their first few years are important. These experiences affect the development of the brain. When children receive more attention, they often have higher IQs. Babies receive information when they see, hear and feel things, which makes connections between different parts of the brain. There are a hundred trillion(万亿) connections in the brain of a three-year-old child.

Researcher Judit Gervain tested how good newborns are at distinguishing different sound patterns. Her researchers produced images of the brains of babies as they heard different sound patterns. For example, one order was mu-ba-ba. This is the pattern “A-B-B”. Another order was mu-ba-ge. This is the pattern “A-B-C”. The images showed that the part of the brain responsible for speech was more active during the “A-B-B” pattern. This shows that babies can tell the difference between different patterns. They also were sensitive to where it occurred in the order.

Gervain is excited by these findings because the order of sounds is the building block of words and grammar. “Position is key to language,” she says. “If something is at the beginning or at the end, it makes a big difference: ‘John caught the bear.’ is very different from ‘The bear caught John.’”

Researchers led by scientist Patricia Kuhl have found that language delivered by televisions, audio books, the Internet, or smartphones—no matter how educational—doesn’t appear to be enough for children’s brain development. They carried out a study of nine-month-old American babies. They expected the first group who’d watched videos in Chinese to show the same kind of learning as the second group who were brought face-to-face with the same sounds. Instead they found a huge difference. The babies in the second group were able to distinguish between similar Chinese sounds as well as native listeners. But the other babies—regardless of whether they had watched the video or listened to the audio—learned nothing.

    【1】What makes connections in a baby’s brain?

    A.Having a higher IQ.

    B.Experiencing new information.

    C.The baby’s early age.

    D.The connection with other babies.

【2】What did Judit Gervain and her team find in the experiment?

A.Babies can identify different sound patterns.

B.Word order is relevant to meaning.

C.Babies can well understand different words.

D.A certain brain region processes language.

【3】What does the underlined sentence mean in Paragraph 3?

    A.Words have different sounds.

    B.Different orders have different meanings.

    C.Different languages have different grammar.

D.Grammar is important in learning languages.

Three years from now, the Beijing-zhangjiakou Winter Olympics will be the next stage for Dajing. “Three years is neither short nor long. I just need to make several small goals and then finish them step by step.” he said. Life is the same, on the way to success, once you’ve made up your mind, just keep doing and never give up.

It was our first evening dog-sitting while our daughter was on holiday in Costa Rica. Louie, her dog, searched the house for his “mommy”. Then, that disappointed but determined dog had a plan.

While my husband Paul and I were watching TV, we heard loud sounds on the stairs. Something heavy was being dragged (拖) down the stairs. I turned around and found this six-month-old dog was dragging his large carrier down the stairs.

Louie looked at us, moved his tail and ran back up the stairs. We were curious about what he was doing.

We watched in amazement as Louie dragged his personal things, one by one, down the stairs: his blanket, bowl, ball and sweater. This project took most of the evening, and Louie never got tired.

What happened next made us realize that not only did this dog have a purpose but he obviously put thought and reasoning into each move. He put his things in the carrier. This was extremely difficult as the carrier had a lip (口) that was taller than him.

After Louie finished packing his things, he tried to jump inside. Once inside, he got the zipper (拉链) between his teeth and, with all the strength he had, he pulled up the zipper. I admired his patience. Then he lay down and went to sleep.

The message was very clear. He wanted to see his “mommy”. He had seen her pack her suitcase and go away. He must do the same so he could find her. He stayed in the carrier all night, and when I opened it the next morning, he was very excited. Believing he had arrived, he jumped up—but his “mommy” was not there. Then, I started making notes about Louie’s behaviour.

Louie surprised us with new activities every day. He liked going for a car ride with my husband. The possibility of stopping at McDonald’s for chicken was his favorite.

    注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;

    2. 请按如下格式作答。

One day, my husband didn’t stop at McDonald’s and left Louie in the car with the window open.
