27、Music influences your emotions. In turn, your emotions influence your behavior. One of these is your food intake. 【1】 What does science say about this subject?
Researchers at the University of Arkansas studied how music influences people when they eat in a restaurant. For the study, they used four types of music: jazz, classical, rock, and hip-hop. Their results showed that people had more appetite when they listened to jazz music while they ate. 【2】 This has a lot to do with emotions. For instance, when you listen to music with harmonic rhythms like jazz, you feel happier. This increases your appetite.
However, another study published in Psychological Reports suggests it isn’t only increased appetite that causes people to eat more. 【3】 A more stimuli-filled environment makes you eat more. In fact, they tend to urge you on to eat and even “encourage” you to eat faster. On the other hand, if the atmosphere in the restaurant is relaxed, you’re likely to feel more relaxed and spend more time enjoying yourself. For this reason, you’ll tend to eat less.
Besides, the study conducted by the Journal of the Academy suggests that the volume of music can also have an effect on how you eat. More specifically, the study states that, with low-volume music, you eat better because you make healthier choices. On the other hand, the study claims that music at high volume increases stimulation and stress. 【4】
For this reason, restaurants should consider the fact when thinking about the optimization of their products and services. 【5】 They equip themselves with the technology needed to provide memorable experiences through music, greatly strengthening their relationship with the customer.
A.Does music influence how you eat?
B.Being in a rush to eat also plays a part.
C.Does your emotion boost your appetite?
D.However, they had less appetite when listening to hip-hop.
E.In fact, many catering establishments have already taken action.
F.This could prove to be quite an interesting concept for restaurants.
G.This means you’re more likely to order comfort food or other unhealthy options.
28、How to Garden When There Is Too Much Water
Unusual weather this summer has hurt many gardens in the United States. 【1】 For others it is too much. In some gardens, water sits on the surface of the ground or the ground stays wet for hours after rain stops. We will look at three ways you can deal with the problem of too much water—you can use one, or all three, in the same garden.
Use a waterway to let water run away
【2】 The simplest way is with a ditch (沟), or, if your garden is large, a few ditches. You will also, of course, need the ditch to flow onto lower ground. Ditches crossing your garden need not be unpleasant to look at or troublesome. Design a garden in which flat stones line ditches and form bridges across ditches that cross paths. 【3】
Use pipes
Another way to do away with water—without changing the look of your garden—is to bury pipes with small holes underground. Dig a ditch, as described above, then lay in a black pipe that is about 10 cm across its width. The pipe is made to bend easily, and the holes in it let in water. 【4】 The cloth can keep out dirt. Then, put a layer of small stones and finally some soil.
Raise the roots (根)
A third way to give your plants more air is to raise them above the water. Trees and bushes can be planted on raised piles of soil, often called “beds”. 【5】 How wide depends on the final size of the plant. If you want a bigger plant, give its roots more room to grow.
A.Try to get enough air into the soil.
B.For many, the problem is not enough rain.
C.One way is to let the water flow (流) to some lower place.
D.Cover the pipe with a cloth that water can pass through.
E.The beds need to be wide enough to allow roots to spread.
F.The whole system can look like a beautiful water-town sight.
G.Build a box at least 15 cm high of wood or stone.

31、根据课文内容填空
The feeling of happiness and sense of belonging can become particularly important for people who move away from their home country. According to some food experts, there are some aspects of culture 【1】 people will lose right away, but with food, there are more 【2】 to connect to memory, family and place. It is hardest to give up the food that you grow up with. Of course, each person’s comfort food 【3】 depends on where they come from —for a Chinese it might be a plate of dumplings with a saucer of vinegar, and for a native of the UK it might be the classic fish and chips, served hot, salty and sour. One 【4】 of comfort food takes us back to our cultural roots, giving us the “taste of home” that we cry out for and 【5】 feelings of homesickness.

It had been a year since Susan, an attractive young woman of 34, became blind and she was suddenly thrown into a world of darkness, anger, frustration and self pity. And all she had to cling to(依靠) was her husband, Mark.
Mark, an Air Force officer, loved Susan with all his heart and he was determined to help his wife gain the strength and confidence she needed to become independent again.
Finally, Susan felt ready to return to her job, but how would she get there? Mark volunteered to drive her to work each day, even though they worked at opposite ends of the city.
At first, this comforted Susan. Soon, however, Mark decided that Susan had to start taking the bus again on her own. But she was still so fragile(脆弱的), so angry - how would she react?
Just as he predicted, Susan was horrified at the idea of taking the bus again. "How am I supposed to know where I am going? I feel like you're abandoning(抛弃) me." she responded bitterly.
Mark's heart broke to hear these words, but he knew what had to be done. He promised Susan that he would ride the bus with her, for as long as it took, until she learned how to do it.
For two weeks, Mark, in military uniform , accompanied Susan to and from work each day. He taught her everything to adapt to her new environment, including befriending the bus drivers who could watch out for her, and save her a seat.
Finally, Susan decided to try the trip on her own. Monday morning arrived, she said good-bye to Mark, and for the first time, they went their separate ways.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday... Each day on her own went perfectly, and Susan had never felt better. She was doing it!
On Friday morning, as she was paying the fare to get off the bus as usual, the driver said, "Young lady, I sure do envy(羡慕) you."
Surprised and curious, she asked the driver, "Why do you say that you envy me?"
Paragraph 1:
The driver responded, "It must feel good to be taken care of and protected like you are every day."
