二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、After about two weeks of intense negotiations in Paris, delegates from around the world reached an international agreement on Dec.12 to address climate change. For the first time in history, 195 countries have promised to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and to increase these reductions over time.

The agreement goes beyond requiring developed countries like the US to take actions to cut down emissions. It’s a universal agreement requiring some form of action from every country, rich or poor.

The agreement sets the date for an emissions peak “as soon as possible”.It would also limit warming worldwide to less than 2℃ above the levels in the 1800s.According to scientific studies 2℃ is the point at which climate change will bring destructive consequences to the planet, including rising sea levels, severe droughts, increased flooding, destructive storms, and widespread food and water shortages.

The deal also urges wealthy countries to set a non-binding (没有约束力的) goal of providing more than $100 billion (650 billion yuan) per year in public and private financing by 2020 for poorer countries to help them invest in clean energy and combat the impact of climate change.

The Paris deal asks countries to make voluntary promises based on an analysis of each country’s economy, politics and technology. However, the deal also includes a series of legally binding requirements. It requires countries to reconvene every five years, starting in 2020, with updated plans that would cut their further emissions.Countries will also be legally required to reconvene every five years starting in 2023 to publicly report on their progress.

The Paris deal alone won’t solve global warming. Its effectiveness will depend on whether each country enacts (立法) their promise. But the deal “could be viewed as a signal to global financial and energy markets, triggering a fundamental shift away from investment in coal, oil and gas as primary energy sources like wind, solar and nuclear power”, according to The New York Times.

【1】Which of the following is true about the agreement?

A.It can help slow down global warming to some extent.

B.It requires only developed countries to cut down emissions.

C.It requires some form of action from all the countries in the world.

D.It would limit warming worldwide to 2℃ less than the levels in the 1800s.

    【2】The 195 countries have to___________.

A.do something to fight against climate change

B.invest more in coal, oil and gas as primary energy sources

C.report on their progress of reducing their emissions since 2020

D.provide more than $100 billion per year in public and private financing

    B.Report.

    C.Meet.

    D.Promise.

【4】What is the author’s purpose of writing this article?

D.To inform readers of an international agreement.

  • 22、A university graduate described as a “respectable and intelligent” woman is seeking professional help after being convicted of (证明有……罪)shoplifting for the second time in six months.

Ana Luz, recently studying for her PhD, has been told she could end up behind bars unless she can control the desire to steal from shops.

Luz, who lives with her partner in Fitzwilliam Road, Cambridge, admitted stealing clothes worth £9.95 from John Lewis in Oxford Street, London, on March 9.

Phillip Lemoyne, prosecuting(起诉), said Luz selected some clothes from a display and took them to the ladies’ toilet in the store. When she came out again she was wearing one of the skirts she had selected, having taken off the anti-theft security alarms.

She was stopped and caught after leaving the store without paying, Mr. Lemoyne said.

He added that she was upset on her arrest and apologized for her actions.

Luz, 28, was said to have been convicted of shoplifting by Cambridge judges last October, but Morag Duff, defending, said she had never been in trouble with the police before that.

“She is ashamed and embarrassed but doesn’t really have any explanation why she did this,” Miss Duff said. “She didn’t intend to steal when she went into the store. She is at a loss to explain it. She is otherwise a very respectable and intelligent young lady. She went to her doctor and asked for advice because she wants to know if there is anything in particular that caused her to do this.” Judge David Azan fined Luz £50, and warned: “You’ve got a criminal record. If you carry on like this, you will end up in prison, which will ruin your bright future you may have.” Luz achieved a degree in design at university in her native Spain, went on to a famous university in Berlin, Germany for her master’s degree and is now studying for a PhD at Cambridge University, UK.

  • 23、Who are better leaders?

Have you ever considered what the most popular personality type is: being an extrovert(外向的人)or being an introvert(内向的人)?   It is hard to say. Each of these identities has its own strengths and weaknesses. 【1】 Some research has shown that introverts can outshine extroverts as leaders, despite the fact that the confident behavior of an extrovert fits many people's image of a typical CEO.

【2】 Outgoing workers or reserved ones? The answer, it turns out, is those who can be both. Combining the best of both personality types can make you an important role in the workplace. Although acting like both an extrovert and introvert might feel tricky at times, it's a skill we can all master with a little practice. Besides, it's not just CEOs who benefit from being both. The earlier in someone's career they build these skills, the better, since the benefits will improve over time. 【3】 On the contrary, it may mean introverts contributing more in meetings.

" To be more extroverted might require initiating conversation or making small talk," says Alisa Cohn, a coach from New York City." I like the idea of practicing such behavior three, four, five times a day in microdoses(微量).   【4】Check how often you do these things each day, and if you have met your goal." She also recommends spotting a role model you admire in your office who has the introvert or extrovert qualities you're looking for.【5】

A.Well, who are more successful at work?

B.Is it possible to change your personality?

C.Little by little, you' ll find it easier to achieve that.

D.For extroverts, this may mean being quieter in meetings.

E.This doesn't mean that introverts aren't happy and relaxed.

F.Then you can watch their behavior and model yourself after them.

G.However, it seems that there's constant debate about which is better.

  • 24、第一节 阅读下列短文 ,从每题所给的四个选项 (A 、B 、C  D )中 ,选出最佳选项,并在题卡上将该项涂黑。(共15小题,每小题2分,满分30分)

    A.

A group of graduates, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.

Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite -- telling them to help themselves to the coffee.

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said: "If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress.

Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups. And then you began eyeing each other's cups. Now consider this: Life is the coffee; the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, and the type of cup we have does not define, nor change the quality of Life we live. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee God has provided us."

God brews the coffee, not the cups. Enjoy your coffee!

"The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything."

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly.

    Leave the rest to God.

【1】What did a group of graduates talk about when they visited their old professor?

    A. How to make the most delicious coffee.

    B. How to choose the coffee cup.

    C. The complaints about stress in work and life.

    D. How to free themselves from stress of work and life.

【2】What is the function of the more expensive cup from the passage?

    A. It makes the coffee taste better.

    B. In some cases it hides what we drink.

    C. It shows people’s wealth.

    D. It shows people’s status.

【3】The purpose of this writing is ____________.

    A. about how to complain about stress in work and life

    B. to enjoy the present life and get happiness from it

    C. to enjoy the coffee with expensive cups

    D. to prove the power of the God

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

We’ve all been there: in a lift, in line at the bank or on an airplane, surrounded by people who are, like us, deeply focused on their smartphones or, worse, struggling with the uncomfortable silence.

What’s the problem? It’s possible that we all have compromised conversational intelligence. It’s more likely that none of us start a conversation because it’s awkward and challenging, or we think it’s annoying and unnecessary. But the next time you find yourself among strangers, consider that small talk is worth the trouble. Experts say it’s an invaluable social practice that results in big benefits.

Dismissing small talk as unimportant is easy, but we can’t forget that deep relationships wouldn’t even exist if it weren’t for casual conversation. Small talk is the grease(润滑剂) for social communication, says Bernardo Carducci, director of the Shyness Research Institute at Indiana University Southeast. “Almost every great love story and each big business deal begins with small talk”, he explains. “The key to successful small talk is learning how to connect with others, not just communicate with them.”

In a 2014 study, Elizabeth Dunn, associate professor of psychology at UBC, invited people on their way into a coffee shop. One group was asked to seek out an interaction(互动) with its waiter; the other, to speak only when necessary. The results showed that those who chatted with their server reported significantly higher positive feelings and a better coffee shop experience. “It’s not that talking to the waiter is better than talking to your husband,” says Dunn. “But interactions with peripheral(边缘的) members of our social network matter for our well-being also.”

Dunn believes that people who reach out to strangers feel a significantly greater sense of belonging, a bond with others. Carducci believes developing such a sense of belonging starts with “Small talk is the basis of good manners,” he says.
