26、I am the proud owner of three pet dogs. Over the years, I have watched their behaviours carefully that help me when I travel around the world.
One important lesson that my dog, Cody, taught me is how to deal with little problems in life. From his calm behavior when someone knocked unexpectedly at the door to the indifferent way he has dealt with his recent serious illness, he has always had the same easy-going attitude. This attitude is an important lesson to me in how I can face difficult situations when travelling, I've learned to try to handle bad situations calmly, such as when we miss a train, lose luggage, and so on.
Another dog of mine, Preston, loves to walk around the yard, spending hours smelling every place and finding out what it means to him. Taking it slowly is another lesson that’s been very hard for me to learn. As an active traveller, I am actually experiencing less by speeding through everything, rather than slowly getting to know a place. Even if it means that you won’t see as many things, going slowly when you travel is the only way to really get to know a new place. Rushing around a foreign city isn’t fun at all.
My dog, Moya, came from a truly bad situation. I am not sure what happened to her before; I just know it wasn’t good. Although she has become more relaxed over the years, she is still slightly on edge. She is very cautious when faced with any new situation. But once she’s accustomed to her new surroundings, she is fine. She doesn’t let fear influence her experience. The same can be applied to our travel experience. No matter where we go, we need to manage new situations with caution——while at the same time not letting that caution turn into fear.
Many thanks to my pets. Truly speaking, pets are as basic to American culture as hot dogs or apple pies. To Americans, pets are not just property, but a part of the family. After all, pets are people, too, with the help of whom I am able to gain a lot and live differently.

27、 To be happy is the pursuit(追求) of any normal human being. Compared to sadness, happiness produces an atmosphere of joy and strength that sustains and energizes(使精力充沛)us. To be happy at work, to be harpy at play and to be happy in our homes are feelings that all of us desire. 【1】. Here are four truths that I believe will clearly define it for you.
【2】
I have seen happier people in an African village hut with a dirt floor than someone I knew who lives in a multi-dollar mansion(公馆). It's a fact that having things, having talent, having money and having all the trappings will not necessarily be equal to happiness in your life.
Happiness comes from what we use
By simply deciding to be happy, no matter what you find yourself doing at the time, you will be led to only one thing---happiness. 【3】. It's not what I do that has been my greatest source of happiness. It has been using what I have at the time with knowledge and understanding.
Happiness comes from what we believe
When I have to do things that may not necessarily fit my dream list of activities, I try to be happy by focusing on my own personal dream for my future, recognizing that the current task I may be doing is simply a vehicle that is carrying me to my destination. 【4】. By approaching the summers, winters, autumns and springs of our life with a positive attitude. happiness will then be our companion through the coldest morning, the sunniest afternoon, or the darkest night.
Happiness comes from what we choose.
Choice is a great word. I owned and operated a cleaning business. I had the choice to either approach each dirty house with a smile or a frown. 【5】. Two outcomes were presented to me---a place transformed into a property that shone in a state of cleanliness, which filled me with a healthy sense of pride, and the financial reward received for a job well done.
A.There are four seasons in a year.

D.Take time to develop a state of “dissatisfied satisfaction” that moves you forward.
E.Life is filled with seasons.

28、 This summer my mom and I did something meaningful and interesting.
Because of the stresses of high school, I felt depressed from time to time. What’s worse, I began to eat many junk foods. As a result, I had gained a lot of weight.
My mom decided to take me to work out, and she cooked delicious but healthy snacks for me. However, I broke my word to my mom not to buy high calorie snacks. My mom found my snack wrappers in the garbage. She got really angry and told me something I will remember forever. She said, “ My dear, I can forget the fact that you cheated, but you shouldn’t. Remember it’s not all about losing weight but about your whole life. If you want to achieve something, take it seriously, and persist(坚持)no matter what happens.”
Since then, we have been out running each morning, and we do some yoga in the evening. We sing and laugh while running along the empty roads. Day by day, I am feeling better. Exercise is helping to strengthen my body and refresh my spirits. At the same time, my mom and I cook different dishes together. Isn’t it amazing that I’m making such tasty-looking foods myself? Cooking brings great joy to me.
These times with my mom have changed my whole attitude to life. I have started to learn the importance of sticking to goals and how to relax. As the famous Brazilian soccer player Pele said, “With strong will, the feet are equal to a pair of wings.”

29、The World Happiness Report, a United Nations agency report, measures (估量) how happy people are, and why. Norway is the happiest place on Earth—beating neighbour Denmark from the number one position.
Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland and Finland round out the top five, while the Central African Republic came last. Western Europe and North America took up most of the places at the top of table, with the US and UK at 14th and 19th.
The World Happiness Report mainly depends on asking a simple question of more than 1,000 people every year in more than150 countries. “Imagine a ladder (梯子), with steps numbered from 0 at the bottom to 10 at the top,” the question asks, “The top of the ladder is the best possible life for you and the bottom of the ladder is the worst possible life for you. On which step of the ladder would you say you personally feel you stand at this time?”
The average result is the country’s score—from Norway’s 7.54 to the Central African Republic’s 2.69. But the report also tries to explain why one country is happier than another. It looks at reasons including economic strength (经济实力) social support, freedom of choice, and generosity.
This year’s report also has a text titled “restoring (恢复) American happiness”, which examines why happiness levels in the United States are falling, despite continually-increasing economic improvement. “The United States can and should raise happiness by solving America’s social problems- rising inequality and distrust-rather than focusing mainly on economic growth,” the authors said.
Jeffrey Sachs, the director of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, which published the report, said President Donald Trump’s policies were likely to make things worse.
