For those of you who love to bake, why not enter our new apple pie contest? Just bring your pie to the pie table on the morning of the fair. At 1 p.m., our judges, Coach Carter and math teacher, Mrs. Adams, will choose a winner.

Won’t you please support our school by coming to the fair? Tickets are only $2 each. Door prizes will be given. You could win sports equipment, a new camera, or dinner for four at Merino’s Restaurant!

  • 27、I'm ashamed to say that,as the years have gone by,I haven't taken the time to walk around my neighborhood. Sure.I'm out and about all the time but always in the car to my way out of the neighborhood.

The main reason is that I don't love my neighborhood anymore.I'm referring to the place, not the people. My street used to come to an end in a forest. As I continued on, though.I came across this. .

Some very artistic children created some lovely, colorful artwork and I couldn't help but think they must have been trying to make me and everyone else just feel better. It certainly worked on me. Thank you, thoughtful artists!

At one point,I saw a man walking across one of the wider, busier streets. I shouted,"I just wanted to say hi to someone!" He answered, looking very friendly and happy, smiling and waving(挥手).

As I walked near the last couple of streets of my walk, the winds began to blow. There were dark clouds behind me so I decided to head home. Luckily, the rain didn't come down until I was resting on the sofa.""

A pedestrian is killed in a traffic accident in the USA every 110 minutes;one is injured every nine minutes, according to official date. Crosswalk can be especially dangerous for the elderly. Among people 70 and older, 36% of pedestrian deaths in 2006 occurred in crosswalks, compared with 21% of those younger than 70, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The Federal Highway Administration(FHWA)advises that next year states increase by nearly 15% the amount of time traffic lights provide for pedestrians to cross the street after the flashing orange hand appears .

FHWA spokesman Doug Hecox says reasons for the change include an aging population that needs more time to cross, health-conscious Americans walking more, children encouraged to walk to prevent getting overweight and high gas prices pushing people to walk instead of drive.

Pedestrian deaths went down by 12% from 5,449 in 1996 to 4,784 in 2006. But among those in 2006, 471 were killed in crosswalks, down slightly from 488 ten years earlier, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says.

Three weeks into her treatment, while looking out at the other children who were also going through cancer treatment, Jessie asked her parents, “How can we help them?” She wanted to comfort the kids. In fact, that morning after her diagnosis, Jessie was at the kitchen table collecting packages of toys for other cancer patients. “She wanted to make other cancer kids happy,” her father Erik remembers.
