It is not a very big planet. It is about half the size of the earth. The earth has one moon. Mars has two moons. They are called Photos and Deimos.
Long ago, the only way to study Mars was just to look at it. People with good eyes could see me things but not everything.
Later on, it was easier, because scientists had telescopes. They could see Mars more clearly. They learned much more about Mars this way.
In the 20th century things got even better. First of all, we had spacecraft (宇宙飞船).They flew close to Mars and sent back information. Then, they sent spacecraft to fly in orbit (轨道) around Mars. Finally, spacecraft landed on Mars. Maybe one day a man will walk on Mars.
A man named Jamie works for NASA with the team sending a spacecraft to Mars. "We landed a rover (探测车) on Mars" he says. "It is called Curiosity."

25、Although I had left school against the advice of my teacher, I had, without telling anyone, tried to continue my studies in literature at evening classes. It was a tiresome walk from one end of the city to another and to sit among adults was uninteresting. I was the youngest in the class, so the friendship I knew at school was absent, I put up with it for a short period. It was too long a walk on cold winter’s nights and it was hard to put my heart into Shakespeare with wet shoes and trousers. So I continued reading books and started writing poetry at home.
By chance, I won some prizes and rewards for literature. A young woman from a TV company came to the college one day. She wanted to make a short film about me, to which I said, “No, I couldn’t do that.” Not that I had any real excuse, I was just frightened. In the end she advised me that I should do it the following day.
So I did. They made a short film of me reading one of my poems and I became more interested in literature than ever. I wondered what I should do after this, and decided some weeks later that I could not imagine myself spending the rest of my days dealing with machines. So one evening, I hesitatingly(支吾其词地) told my parents that I wanted to return to school. They wanted to know if I was sure, if I knew what it meant and whether I realized that if I gave up my job training, it would be very difficult to get a good job. But nothing could stop me, and they asked about the matter on future.

26、When you don’t have any money, can you get anything to eat? Students in Class10, Grade 9 at Mountain and Lake Middle School in Chengdu, have their ways. They give out flyers(传单), draw portraits (人物素描)and work as waiters.
The class, working in eight groups, finished the activity----Experiencing Life for Seven Hours, on March 18. “I found students waste their food in the dining hall,” the class teacher, Den Yong said, “So I held this activity to help them understand how hard it is to make money.”
Jiang Hui, 15, and his group members stood in the streets giving out flyers for about two hours and got the money for their lunch. Xie realized that life is really hard. “We have to work hard to get the money to pay for even a simple meal.” Xie said, “We must value the happy life today.”
