六、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、

Qomolangma is the world's highest mountain. You may have learned from your textbooks that its height is 8,844.43 meters. But not all sides are in agreement on this. Different researchers have given different results. In addition, the height of the mountain can change over time.

That's why a Chinese survey team with over 30 members set out to reach the peak of Qomolangma to remeasure its height on May 6, 2020. They were equipped (配备) with the latest technology.

It is not an easy task. The average air temperature on the mountain is -29℃, and powerful winds blow all the time. In such bad conditions, surveying drones (无人机) cannot work at the peak of the mountain. That's why it's still necessary to send human experts to the peak to get exact results.

But does a difference of a few meters really matter when it comes to a high mountain?

In fact, measuring the height of Qomolangma is about more than just getting one exact number. Mount Qomolangma is at the point where the Eurasian plate (欧亚板块) meets the Indian plate. It formed 38 million years ago as the two plates hit each other. Changes in the peak's height can show whether the two plates are heading toward or away from each other. This can help us understand the movement of the earth's crust (地壳).

The survey team will also get firsthand information about environmental conditions at the top of the mountain. This will help us understand how climate change has affected the QinghaiTibet Plateau (高原).

【1】What do we know from the first paragraph?

A.Researchers measure the height of Qomolangma every year.

B.There is no agreed-upon height of Qomolangma at present.

C.It's not easy to measure the height of Qomolangma.

D.The height of Qomolangma increases every year.

【2】How many members were there in the Chinese survey team in 2020?

    A.Over sixty.

    B.Over eighty.

    C.Over forty.

    D.Over thirty.

【3】Which of the following words could replace the underlined word "peak" in Paragraph 2?

    A.Point.

    B.Top.

    C.Base.

    D.Edge.

【4】What challenge did the Chinese survey team face?

    A.A lack of water.

    B.Dangerous animals.

    C.Bad weather conditions.

D.The movement of the earth's crust.

【5】What is the main idea of the last two paragraphs?

A.Why measuring the height of Qomolangma is important.

B.What changes in the height of Qomolangma's peak can tell us.

C.How Qomolangma became the highest mountain.

D.How plate movements affected the height of Qomolangma.

  • 22、Will you have to do a lot of homework every evening? Will your English classes be interesting? Who will teach you? Maybe you have lots of questions before school starts. Well, I want to give you some good advice about these questions.

First, keep calm(平静). Don’t worry about all the questions you have. Put your heart into learning, and you will certainly find something you are interested in.

Third, invent your own study methods instead of copying or repeating others’. If you can remember new words in your ways, tell your teachers you don’t want to study new words by copying them again and again. • 23、Do you get angry when your friends sing loudly? Or when your best friend does not wait for you after school?

If you do, you need to control (控制) your feelings and stop getting angry so easily. Getting angry easily can make you lose friends.

Gary Egeberg, an American high school teacher, wrote My Feelings are Just Like Wild Animals to help you control your feelings. It tells teens how to stay cool when bad things happen to them. The book says that getting angry only makes problems worse. It can not make them better. “Getting angry is not a natural way to act,” the book says. It is just a bad habit, like smoking. The book says you can control your anger easily, and all you have to do is to tell yourself not to be angry.

When a baby falls over, it cries only when people are watching it. Like a baby, you can only get angry if you are sure it is the right thing to do.

The book gives many suggestions to help you if you get angry easily. Here are the top three.

①Keep a record. Every time you get angry, write down why you are angry. Look at it later and you will see you get angry too easily.

②Ask your friends to stop talking to you when you get angry. This will teach you not to be angry.

③Do something different. When you get angry, walk away from the problem and go somewhere else. Try to laugh!
