二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、I am an Africa wildlife filmmaker. But wildlife filmmakers from Africa are rarer than mountain gorillas(大猩猩). To understand why there are so few, we need to remember our recent history.

When the colonialists(殖民者) ruled Africa, they seized control of the continent’s wildlife and other natural resources. They saw African wildlife as “big game” and the continent’s first protected natural areas were game reserves created by driving away locals for the benefit of white hunters. Later, game reserves were renamed national parks and big game hunting gave way to wildlife tourism. But African wildlife was still there for White people’s enjoyment and benefits.

That locals could have an interest in preserving wildlife for its own sake was rarely considered. Africans -like me who tried to get involved in wildlife conservation were made to feel out of place. When I was first interviewed by a British film crew, my interview was cut at the editing stage and replaced by a white man, just because I was an African.

Africa was the setting for some of the most popular films about wildlife, but these films were made by western-owned production companies for Western audiences, and most Africans never even got to see them. What Africa needed was to see themselves and their view points in the films. We urgently needed wildlife films made by Africans, about Africans and for Africans. As producer of the documentary TV series “Wildlife Warriors”, I set out to find African conservation heroes who could play a role in the documentary. I soon discovered that we had some talented African filmmakers across the continent.

Today things are changing fast. Companies like National Geographic and the BBC are leading the way with new approaches to global storytelling that deliver diversity and equality. Our African wildlife filmmakers’ mission is to draw on the power of local storytelling to inspire our people to save our continent’s rich wildlife.

【1】Why are African wildlife filmmakers rare?

A.They lack the talent in making films.

B.They live in the shadow of westerners.

C.They are still colonized by the westerns.

D.They aren’t interested in filming wildlife.

【2】What message does the cut of my interview convey?

    A.The strictness of the crew.

    B.The preference for the British.

    C.The prejudice against Africans.

    D.The benefits of local communities.

【3】What can we learn from paragraph 4?

A.The locals enjoy wildlife films set in Africa.

B.Africans play a leading role in wildlife film-making.

C.Films made by westerners are the most popular ones.

D.Africans long for having a say in wildlife film-making.

【4】What is the purpose of the author writing the text?

A.To introduce how African wildlife are protected.

B.To urge people to better preserve African wildlife.

C.To show that the author was ignored by westerners.

D.To explain why more African filmmakers are needed.

  • 27、There are 8.8 million blind people in India. In fact, there are 36 million blind people worldwide and a quarter of them are in India; however, many cases of blindness in India are curable. The poor in India have limited access to primary eye healthcare and often do not eat foods rich in micronutrients, like vitamins and minerals, which play an important role in maintaining good eye health.

Many people worldwide are not even aware that they may have a vision (视力) problem simply because they do not get their eyes tested every year with a doctor, who tests for the functioning of the eye muscles (肌肉), as well as common diseases like night blindness. This exam is strongly recommended by experts because some changes in vision, which the patient may take longer to notice, can be found easily in this way.

Certain simple changes in diet and lifestyle can ensure better eye health for you. These include drinking plenty-of water, not smoking, and eating brightly colored and leafy fruit and vegetables. Wearing sunglasses protects your eyes from the sun, which damages otherwise healthy eyes. Learn about your family's eye disease history, and be on the lookout for any problem about your vision. Make sure that you see a doctor immediately for early intervention(干预) if you see any of these signs of worsening eye health.

If you or a loved one needs to cure blindness or other eye diseases, turn to a crowdfunding (众筹) platform. A group of eye health caregivers have fundraised with crowdfunding platform Impact Guru to raise money to perform operations on the eyes of blind women in south Asia. Running an online fundraiser enables both doctors and patients to find a way out of the dark. If you want eye care to develop, start a fundraiser today.

【1】Why are there so many blind people in India?

A.There is a lack of eye hospitals in India.

B.People pay no attention to their eyes at all.

C.Poor Indians lack food good for eye health.

    D.The environment damages their eyes.

【2】What does the author suggest in Paragraph 2?

    A.Examining your eyes annually.

    B.Strengthening muscles every day.

C.Raising the awareness of physical health.

    D.Attaching importance to self-examination.

【3】Which of the following may do harm to your eyes?

    A.Smoking a lot.

    B.Wearing sunglasses.

    C.Drinking much water.

    D.Watching brightly-colored pictures.

【4】What does the author want to show in the last paragraph?

A.How to start a fundraiser online.

    B.The importance of raising money.

C.The role of crowdfunding in eye care.

D.What should be done to raise money.

    Flowers for Algernon

    Daniel Keyes

He’ll show you how a person, whose IQ is 68, feels going from a simple cleaner at a bakery to a genius and the most intelligent person on the planet. In a situation like this, is it possible to overcome your fears and cope with loneliness? Keyes offers his answer to this question.

    Orphans of the Sky

    Robert Anson Heinlein

Are we, the digital generation, different from the passengers of that imaginary spaceship?

    95 Pounds of Hope

    Anna Gavalda

Adapted from the author’s own experience, this story is about the main things in life: choices we make, the power of love and devotion. The story of a thirteen-year-old boy who one day has to gather all his strength and courage and take a step towards adulthood proves once again that dreams do come true. After all, no matter how many pounds we have, we’re all trying not to lose hope.

    A Certain Smile

    Francoise Sagan

If you don’t enjoy thrillers or sci-fi and stories about dragon-riding detectives, and if you’re longing for something emotional, slow and gentle, this beautiful little book by Francoise Sagan is just what you need. Strongly recommended by psychological doctors, it’s a pleasant exception among traditional romance novels: you’ll find all of the advantages of high-quality literature here. In the United States, a company is working on a project that could change the way we think about public transportation. Its1system would move people around in steel tubes. Those passengers would be traveling at speeds of up to 1, 200 kilometers per hour.

The futuristic steel tube transportation system is called Hyperloop. Workers plan to test the system next year in a 2built community called Quay Valley. The town will be powered.3by energy from the sun.

The Hyperloop transport system is the idea of businessman Elon Musk. Dirk Ahlborn is head of Hyperloop Transportation Technologies. He says his company has taken Mr. Musk's idea and is4a system that will be safe, environmentally friendly and fast.

“It's 100 percent solar5. We're not going to get up to 760 miles per hour, but we believe we can actually break the records that exist right now.”

This means that a four-hour drive from Los Angeles, California to Las Vegas, Nevada, could someday take only 30 minutes by Hyperloop.

The system involves a series of capsules that6inside a long tube. These containers would not need to travel along a pathway or track. . The system-has been designed to operate above or below ground.

“Inside the tube you create a low7environment very similar to an airplane that's at high altitudes. So now the capsule travelling inside the tube doesn't meet with as much8, and therefore can travel really fast with very little energy.”

Dirk Ahlborn and his company will use an eight-kilometer track in Quay Valley to find the best way to set up passenger traffic and repair capsules. A larger system will cost a(n)9six to $10 billion to build.

If Mr. Ahlborn and his company succeed, we may one day see these very fast Hyperloop capsules 10through tubes around the world.
