二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、A new report says plastics are responsible for $13 billion in damage to the oceans and the undersea environment. The findings were announced recently at a United Nations conference.   【1】

Plastic thrown away carelessly makes its way into rivers and other waterways. The plastic eventually reaches coastal areas and ocean waters. After a while, it collects in the sea. And plastic never goes away. Plastic is not biodegradable — destroyed by bacteria or natural processes. Instead, it just breaks up into smaller pieces over time. The oceans contain a lot of chemicals and other pollutants. 【2】 . That means harmful materials may get into our food supply.

【3】 . Human beings cause pollution and they can take steps to stop it. They can use fewer single use product containers and throw plastics away correctly. Plastic recycling programs also works — where old bottles and other plastics are collected, broken down and used to make new products. We could reuse bottles in our households many times if we wish to, rather than end it after the first use. We could, when we get rid of that plastic, recycle and reuse it, which replaces the need for raw materials.

The report also calls on companies to improve methods for using plastics. 【4】And it calls for information about the way plastic is thrown out or removed from use. By putting a new value on plastic, industry has a special reason to clean up the environment. But all of the companies must join to deal with the problem.

A.But people can make a big difference.

B.Plastics should be gathered together and reused.

C.Then, fish may eat the plastics.

D.It is convenient to use plastic bags in everyday life.

E.It asks for them to better measure and direct plastic use.

F.The report tells about harm to sea life and what might be done to improve the situation.

  • 22、Smart devices have become an everyday part of our lives. A smart refrigerator can go above and beyond simply keeping our food cool.

A smart refrigerator is any refrigerator that’s equipped with a Wi-Fi connection. It can share information about itself, be a real-time camera that lets users see what’s inside while at the supermarket, or act as a digital command center for the home. Some other things smart fridges are able to do include raising or lowering the temperature at the sound of your voice or with your phone, or helping you track the contents of your fridge so you don’t run into a milk shortage emergency.

Smart fridges can be particularly good at keeping food cool. It’s easier to adjust the temperature if it is higher than it should be because the door is left slightly open. This can make a difference in your energy bills and the quality and lifespan(寿命) of your food.

Many of the smart fridge’s features can also save you time when you’re rushing to get ready in the morning. The people who will benefit most from a smart fridge are probably those who have children who might be using the fridge while parents are at work. It’s another way you can keep an eye on what’s going on at home when you’re not there. However, prices do tend to run higher than traditional fridges.

If you already have a food organizational system that’s working very well for you, and you are cool with the way your fridge is handling your food, then a smart fridge may not be worth it. However, if the smart fridge’s features mentioned above sound like they would make your life easier, then one could be worth the extra money.

【1】What can a smart refrigerator do?

    A.Order food.

    B.Record the contents inside.

    C.Deal with emergency.

    D.Share information with supermarkets.

【2】Which of the following best describes the smart refrigerator?

    A.Energy-saving but expensive.

    B.Child-friendly but noisy.

    C.Time-saving but unsafe.

    D.Convenient but power-consuming.

【3】What does the author suggest in the last paragraph?

    A.Accepting a smart fridge passively.

B.Highly recommending us to own a smart fridge.

C.Thinking reasonably about having a smart fridge.

D.Firmly rejecting the idea of buying a smart fridge.

【4】Where does the text most probably come from?

    A.A poster.

    B.A magazine.

    C.A novel.

    D.A guide book.

  • 23、   Fernando, Lucia, and their moms were heading downhill. Tired and hungry, Fernando was eager to have a rest and eat up the sandwich buried in his pack. Lucia desperately wanted to rest her tired feet and legs, which ached terribly from the challenging climb up the mountain. Mountain climbing was not her greatest talent.

Distracted by hunger pains and by the beautiful view of the valley below, Fernando didn't see the large fallen branch steps ahead of him. His foot caught on it, sending him down a steep path. After rolling to a stop, he knew something was wrong with his ankle.

His mom supported him as he tried to stand, but it was much too painful. They tried calling 911, but the surrounding trees blocked their cell phone signals. Analyzing their dilemma, the group decided that Lucia and her mom would climb back to the top of the mountain, where they would set off the emergency flares they carried. Lucia really began to worry when the group settled on this plan. She wasn't confident that her overtaxed muscles could carry her up the mountain a second time in one day!

Fernando's mom stayed with her son, and tried to make him as comfortable as possible.  The air on the mountain was dry and turning cooler. She wrapped him in her jacket to keep him warm and periodically gave him sips of water.

Meanwhile, Lucia and her mom climbed up the mountain-again! A feeling of pride washed over Lucia when she finally made it to the mountaintop-she was tougher than she thought! Then pride turned to amazement when she spotted a helicopter approaching. Quickly, her mom fired a flare, and they shouted and waved to attract attention. The helicopter flew round to let them know that he had seen them. The plan nearer and the pilot circled had worked-they were going to get Fernando safely off the mountain!

    1What happened to Fernando?

A.His ankle got injured by accident. B.A branch knocked him on the head.

C.He went missing in the deep valley. D.He could find his sandwich nowhere.

2Why did Lucia climb up the mountain again?

A.To signal for help. B.To wait for the helicopter.

C.To search for water. D.To look for Fernando's cellphone.

3Which words can best describe Lucia's second climb?

A.Painful and fruitless. B.Dangerous but exciting.

C.Tiring yet worthwhile. D.Challenging and enjoyable.

  • 24、Just then, Senora Ines arrived and asked Rosaura if she wouldn't mind helping serve out the hot dogs, as she knew the house so much better than the others.

“See?” said Rosaura to the girl with a bow, and when no one was looking she kicked her in the shin (胫骨).

Apart from the girl with a bow, all the others were delightful. The one she liked best was Luciana, with her golden birthday crown, and then the boys. Rosaura won the sack race, and nobody managed to catch her when they played tag. When they split into two teams to play charades, all the boys wanted her for their side. Rosaura felt she had never been so happy in her life.

The best came after Luciana blew out the candles. First the cake. Senora Ines had asked her to help pass the cake around, and Rosaura had enjoyed the task very much because everyone called out to her, shouting Me, me!” Rosaura remembered a story in which there was a queen who had the power of life or death over her subjects. She had always loved that, having the power of life or death. To Luciana and the boys she gave the largest piecesand to the girl with a bow she gave a piece so thin one could see through it.

After the cake came the magician. A true magician, he could untie handkerchiefs by blowing on them and make a chain with links that had no openings. He could guess what cards were pulled out from a pack and a monkey was his assistant. He called the monkey "partner".

The final trick was wonderful. One of the children had to hold the monkey in his arms and the magician said he would make the monkey disappear.

Rosaura thought that this was truly the most amusing party in the whole world.

【1】What can we learn from the first two paragraphs?

A.Rosaura was unwilling to give Senora Ines some help.

B.Rosaura showed off the love she got from Senora Ines.

C.Rosaura looked down upon the girl with a bow.
