When holding a party, people usually want to invite some friends and relatives. 【1】

Writing a party invitation is an art. There are some important things when you prepare an invitation. In fact, it’s easier to write an invitation than you think. It just takes some practice.

【2】 It’s strange to receive an invitation without knowing the host. If you plan to send an e-mail invitation, guests might not even read the e-mail without the name of the host.

Secondly, your invitation should include the reason for holding the party. After receiving the invitation, guests can prepare proper clothes or the presents. And the date and the time of your party are also necessary. 【3】

The next thing you should write on your invitation is the exact place where the party will be held. Maybe some of your guests don’t know the location. 【4】 We know everyone can search online for it, but it’s very nice to provide the information for the people who don’t know much about the place.

【5】 In this way, your guests can have enough time to prepare for your party.

A.If so, you should also include directions in the invitation.

B.But do you know how to write a party invitation?

C.Lastly, you should send invitations at least two weeks ahead of time.

D.Firstly, the name of the party’s host should be written on your invitation.

E.It’s even better to tell your guests how long the party lasts.

  • 25、When we look at a picture of Earth from space, there are areas of green, blue, and white. Most people will recognize (辨认) that the green is land, the blue is water, and the white is clouds. Taken as a whole, Earth is mainly blue. That is because of the amount (数量) of water it has that covers the surface.

So, how much of Earth is water? About 71% of Earth’s surface is covered in water. Of that 71%, the oceans hold 96.5% of the water. This water found in oceans is all salt water. The remaining 3.5% of the water is fresh water, which can be found in lakes, rivers, glaciers (冰川), and in the ground. Fresh water is what people use for farming, raising animals, drinking, and daily activities such as taking showers and washing clothes or dishes.

Does the amount of water stay the same? For the most part, yes. Water on Earth is part of a closed system (系统). That is, water is always moving and changing forms between ice, liquid, and gas. The form of the water changes all the time, but the total amount of water on Earth remains the same.

If Earth is not necessarily running out of water, why are people worried? Why do we need to think about saving water? First, humans can only use fresh water, which is only 3.5% of all of Earth’s water. Second, of this 3.5%, only 1% is available for human use. Most fresh water is found in glaciers far from where anyone lives. Third, the amount of water that is useful for humans is being used faster than it can be cleaned and put back into the environment.

Now, knowing the facts about water, it is our job to make sure we use Earth’s water in a good way.

【1】The remaining 3.5% of the water on Earth CAN’T be found in ________.

    A.oceans

    B.lakes

    C.glaciers

    D.rivers

【2】What does the writer mean by saying “Water on Earth is part of a closed system.”?

A.The amount of water becomes smaller.

B.The amount of water stays the same.

C.The amount of water keeps changing.

D.The amount of water becomes larger.

【3】What can we learn from Paragraph 4?

A.Humans can use all the water on Earth.

B.Most fresh water is found in the ground.

C.Humans can’t use 2.5% of the fresh water easily.

D.Water can’t be cleaned and put back into the environment.

【4】What is the main idea of the passage?

A.Why Earth is in different colors.

B.Who uses the most water on Earth.

C.The amount and types of Earth’s water.

D.How to use water in a good way.

  • 27、My father and I were both angry. “Never set foot in this house again!” shouted my father. With tears in my eyes, I rushed out to the street.

I walked aimlessly. A young father who held a child in his arms walked past me. I seemed to see my childhood from another space: happy.

But now... I don’t know whether it is because I have grown up or because my dad is getting old. We have different ways of thinking. He always puts his opinions on me. We are just like two people coming from two different worlds. It feels like there is an iron door between us that can never be opened.

I walked in the streets. My heart was cold on this hot summer night. As I walked on, there were fewer and fewer people in the streets, until I had only the street lights with me. When I finally reached the building where I lived, I saw that the light was still on.

I thought to myself: “Is my father waiting for me, or is he still angry with me?”

In fact, it was nothing. Perhaps, my dad was throwing away some of his old stamps. Perhaps he thought they were useless. I never had the courage to tell him that I liked collecting stamps. All the lights were off except my father’s.

Dad was always like this. Maybe he didn’t know how to express himself. After shouting at me, he never showed any moments of regret. However, after an argument he has the habit of tucking me underneath the covers (掖被子) while I am sleeping.

This was how he always was. He has been a leader for so long that telling everyone else what to do has become his second nature.

The light was still on. “Am I wrong?” I whispered, maybe ... With the key in my hand, I was as nervous as I had ever been. At last, I decided to open the door. As soon as I opened the door, tears ran down my cheeks. I suddenly realized that there wasn’t the iron door that I had imagined between us at all. Love — it’s second to none.

【1】Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?

A.The father didn’t like his son’s stamp collecting.

B.The son and his father needed communication.

C.The father opened the door for the son when he came back.

D.The boy fully understood why he and his father had different thinking.

【2】Which is the best order of the following according to what happened in the passage?

    a. I opened the door and entered the house.

    b. Sadly I ran out into the street.

    c. I reached the place where I lived and saw my home still brightly lit.

    d. I thought of my father’s kindness towards me.

    e. I walked about in the street without any aim.

    A.b, e, c, d, a

    B.b, e, d, c, a

    C.b, e, a, c, d

    D.b, e, c, a, d

【3】What conclusion can you come to after reading the passage?

A.The father treats his son in an unfair way.

B.The father is neither kind nor rude to his son.

C.The father loves his son very much in fact.

D.The father is always finding his son wrong.

    【4】This passage is mainly about________.

    A.where the boy went

    B.why the boy left home

    C.what made a father angry

D.how the boy understood his father’s love
