24、 Funny astronauts are wanted by NASA(美国国家航空航天局) which needs astronauts to join the flight to Mars in 2030.
A trip to Mars and back to Earth would take around two years in a small spacecraft. So the team needs astronauts with a sense of humor during the long journey. They can help everyone get along well. They can also make the journey more enjoyable.
A scientist at the University of Florida told the newspaper, “ As astronauts we will fly the spaceship and do scientific experiments such as growing plants and repair the space ship. Many unpredictable(难以预料的) difficulties are waiting for us.” Then He added, “In stressful situations, perhaps humor is a way to know we aren’t alone. By laughing together, we share our stress. Then we can focus on our jobs instead of just worrying.”
Here are some of the requirements for astronauts from NASA. They must be smart, able to stay calm all the time and tell stories as well as jokes. Also, the astronauts need to have crazy wig(假发), oversized boots and big red noses. However being funny is not enough. They are supposed to be excellent scientists and engineers who can finish hard training.

25、Jack London, one of America’s writers of adventure stories, was born in California in 1876. He was one of the first American authors that were famous worldwide and made a large amount of money from writing. During his life, London did many jobs. His broad (广泛的) life experiences were good for his writing.
London loved to read. As a teenager, he spent many hours educating himself in the public library. He went to the University of California, Berkeley, but he stayed for only several months. Later, he left Berkeley. He thought Berkeley was “not lively enough”, and wanted to do something more exciting.

26、Mexican people have a tradition of greeting each other with handshakes and kisses on the cheek. But recently, the government asked people to stop doing this. They have also closed schools and museums, and advised people to stay at home. This is to stop people from catching an infectious (传染性的) disease, swine flu (猪流感). The disease has spread over the country in the past month. It has killed 159 people and caused 4,000 to become sick. What is swine flu? Swine flu is a disease that causes illness in pigs. It spreads to people in two ways. They catch the virus (病毒) after being with infected pigs, or they get it from an infected person. The disease spreads in the same way as human flu, through coughs and sneezes, or by touching a contaminated surface (被污染的表面) and then touching the nose or mouth. However, it cannot be spread by eating pork. People who have caught swine flu will have a fever, a cough, a sore throat and body aches. In most cases, the infection makes people unwell but their lives will not be in danger. How serious is the situation? Since swine flu started in Mexico about a month ago, it has spread to a few other countries. The US has reported 65 cases and Canada has reported 13 cases. Other countries are checking for possible cases. Last week, the World Health Organization said the flu was a “public health emergency (紧急情况)”. It says the disease could become a global outbreak. A few governments around the world have advised people in their countries not to visit Mexico. Some countries have begun checking air travelers for the disease. Russia, China and other countries have stopped buying pork from Mexico, though the flu cannot be caught by eating the meat. Health experts advise people to wash their hands frequently, to cover coughs and sneezes and to stay home if they feel ill.

After people have been used to their new work situation. But what if your job was to control a multi-billion-dollar space rover (探测车) located on a planet nearly 200 million km away from Earth?
A team of NASA scientists is doing just that. In order to follow social distancing rules, these scientists have had to work from home. But they’ve still found ways to work together and take care of the complex (复杂的) tasks that are needed to keep the Curiosity rover working on Mars.
Their work-from-home setups (装配) as seen in photos provided to CNBC and ScienceAlert, look much like home office setups. They use ordinary computers. But instead of working on spreadsheets (电子制表), these scientists are programming complex sequences (序列) of instructions that are then sent to the rover. These instructions allowed the rover to find a rock sample (样本) in a location on Mars called “Edinburgh”.
Usually, the team’s 20 scientists work together by communicating through apps or video meetings. One scientist might have to follow 15 message channels (通道) at once.
NASA gave the scientists headsets (耳机) monitors and other equipment to allow them to do their jobs from home. However, the goggles (眼镜) they usually use to analyze (分析) pictures from Mars could not be sent out. So they have to depend on red-and-blue glass lenses (镜片) instead.
But difficulties like these have not been a problem for the scientists. In fact, getting used to changing situations is “classic, textbook NASA,” according to the head of science operations Carrie Bridge. “We’re presented with a problem and we find out how to make things work. Mars isn’t standing still for us; we’re still exploring,” she said.
【1】During the outbreak, NASA scientists ________.

B.work on spreadsheets
C.are making Curiosity rover work from home

C.they don’t have the equipment to do their jobs
【3】Which of the following is NOT TRUE according to the article?
A.Mars is nearly 200 million km away from Earth.
B.One scientist might have to contact with several other scientists at the same time.

A.NASA wrote a textbook on how to deal with problems.
B.NASA always finds ways to deal with new situations.
C.Difficulties are uncommon for NASA.
【5】What is the story mainly about?
A.NASA’s project on Mars.
B.The problems NASA faces.
C.How NASA scientists work at home.
