四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、Nearly three-quarters of Chinese households don’t have a room specifically for reading and studying. However, it doesn’t hold people back from picking up a book.

Recently, 2000 Chinese homeowners aged between 18 and 55 have been interviewed about reading. The findings of the survey show links between study rooms, the size of a house and the level of development of different Chinese cities, as well as interviewees’ reading habits and preferred reading spaces.

    Small cities, big reading spaces

While people of first-tier cities(一线城市)have plenty to be proud of, a large study room for reading is not one of them. Almost 90% of homeowners in first-tier cities reported not having a study room in the house, and the average(平均的)study area per person is only 0.26 square meters.

That size of study room remained under the one-square-meter mark in second-, third- and fourth-tier cities. While in fifth-tier cities, like Zhangjiaje in the central province of Hunan, the number reached an average of 1.01 square meters per person. In such cities, the possibility of having a study room is three times higher than that in first-tier cities.

The survey also found the bigger the house, the more chances its design will include a study room.

    No study room, no problem

But just because most Chinese apartments lack a place for reading doesn’t mean that people aren’t exercising their eyes and minds. The survey found that the interviewees spent between 500 yuan and 800 yuan on books every year.

Book-lovers are also enjoying their hobby anywhere in the house, as well as outside. Data shows that 63.6% of readers read on their way to work, 39.5% make use of their time on the toilet to catch up with their favorite book and 35.4% flip through a novel or a magazine before going to bed.

And while the majority (82.5%)still prefers to read in study rooms, many are looking outside the front door for places to enjoy the pleasure of reading, with 41.8% choosing cafes and 33.3% choosing bookstores.

    【1】What does the survey show?

A.People in China become less interested in reading.

B.Not having a study room doesn’t stop readers from reading.

C.People aged between 18 and 55 read more than the others.

D.Not having enough reading areas remains a problem in small cities.

【2】What do we know about the study rooms in first-tier cities from the passage?

A.They are five times larger than those in fifth-tier cities.

B.The average size of them is more than one square meter.

C.People in first-tier cities are proud of their study rooms.

D.People in first-tier cities are less likely to have study rooms at home.

【3】According to the report, which way of reading would most people prefer?

    A.Reading at a bookshop.

    B.Reading in study rooms.

    C.Reading before going to bed.

D.Reading on one’s way to work.

【4】The passage can best be described as a/an ________.

    A.report

    B.notice

    C.interview

    D.book review

  • 26、Researchers found how parents’ communication styles help their young children to develop language skills. Daniel Yurovsky, professor in psychology at Carnegie Mellon University and his team developed a method to experimentally evaluate how parents use what they know about their children’s language when they talk to them. They found that parents have extremely exact models of their children’s language knowledge, and use these models to tune (调正) the language they use when speaking to them.

“We have known for years that parents talk to children more differently than to other adults in a lot of ways. For example, simplifying their speech, repeating words and stretching out vowel sounds.” said Yurovsky. “That helps young kids get a toehold into language, but whether parents change the way they talk as children are learning language, gives children language input that is ‘just right’ for learning the next thing.”

Yurovsky and his team continued to study to understand exactly how parents tune their interactions to match their child’s speech development. The team developed a game where parents helped their children to pick a specific animal from a set of three. Half of the animals in the matching game were animals that children typically learn before age 2, like cat and cow. And the other half were animals that are typically learned later such as peacock and leopard. The researchers asked 41 child-adult pairs to play the game. They measured the differences in how parents talked about animals they thought their children knew and those they thought their children did not know.

They found parents had an unbelievable exact knowledge of their child’s language because they had watched them grow and learn. These results showed that parents leveraged (利用) their knowledge of their children’s language development to fine-tune the information they provided.

“We found that parents not only used what they already knew about their children’s language knowledge before the study, but also that if they found out they were wrong—their child didn’t actually know ‘leopard’, for example, they changed the way they talked about that animal the next time around.” said Yurovsky. “Right now we train language models by giving them all of the language data we can get our hands on all at once. But we might do better if we could give them the right data at the right time, keeping it at just the right level that they are ready for.” Yurovsky added.

【1】Why do parents talk to children differently than to other adults?

A.To reduce kids’ fear to face difficulties.

B.To help develop their kids’ languages.

    C.To make their talks understood.

D.To call for their kids’ attention.

【2】What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?

A.The ways parents tune to match their child’s speech.

B.The game that helps children to pick a specific animal.

C.The experiment to find out exact talking ways parents use.

D.The methods children and parents use to talk with each other.

  • 27、Nowadays the intelligent parcel lockers like Hive Box started to play an important role in most of the deliveries in our life.

Before the introduction of intelligent parcel lockers, although a large part of the delivery process started to use machines and technologies, last-mile delivery mainly depends on couriers. With the increase in the number of express orders, there are more problems such as shortage of couriers and too much work pressure. At the same time, because of different locations and the uncertainty of the picking time as well as other factors, the efficiency of couriers was very low. What’s worse, second deliveries often occurred. Under such situation, intelligent parcel lockers were put into use. They greatly improve users’ experience and delivery efficiency.

However, some serious problems actually impede the development of it. That’s why it doesn’t develop as fast as we expect. Installation cost of the lockers at the early stage is expensive. Although the free storage with no time limit once attracted a large member of users, such kind of method is not practical in the long run and has caused losses these years.

Take Hive Box, the leading company as well as China’s largest self-service parcel locker operator in this industry, as an example. In 2019, the intelligent parcel lockers of the Hive Box led a wide-spread debate. Because the locker put up a notice that tried to let the users pay 1 RMB to get their parcels without informing in advance. On April 30, 2020, Hive Box began a membership system. It also caused dissatisfaction.

It seems that the intelligent parcel lockers industry has been exploring its way to get more profits and reduce losses, but so far, there has been no perfect solution. So reformation and more studies should be done to guide it to the correct path to a better development.

【1】What’s the main idea of Paragraph 2? ________

A.How the intelligent parcel lockers worked.

B.How the intelligent parcel lockers came out.

C.What problems intelligent parcel lockers met.

D.What advantages the intelligent parcel lockers had.

【2】What does the underlined word “impede” probably mean? ________

    A.Stop.

    B.Improve.

    C.Slow.

    D.Help.

【3】Why does the writer mention Hive Box? ________

A.To attract people to use Hive Box more often.

B.To show Hive Box is the biggest company in the industry.

C.To prove how difficultly the intelligent parcel lockers develop.

D.To explain why people don’t like Hive Box’s membership system.

【4】According to the passage, the future of the intelligent parcel lockers is ________.

    A.different

    B.hopeful

    C.promising

    D.worrying
