26、Medha Gupta sometimes felt worried about making the 20-minute walk from the corner where the school bus dropped her off to her home in Herndon,Va.—especially during the colder months in winter.
Her mother, Divya Gupta had a suggestion: write an app. She was half-kidding, but Medha didn’t take the challenge lightly. So she set out to work.
The result was Safe Travel, an app designed by Medha to help walkers feel more secure when they are travelling alone. Using the iPhone, a person can program it to send a warning to someone he or she trusts if he or she fails to arrive at a destination within a certain time.
It was the first iOS app that Medha had created. While she didn’t think much would come from the project, her effort caught the eye of judges for the annual Congressional App Challenge, who selected her as the winner for Virginia’s 10th District.
The App Challenge is designed to encourage students to consider careers in science, technology, engineering, and math by experimenting with coding and computer science.Winning students are invited to attend a reception on Capitol Hill in April and also received $250 in Amazon Web Service credits.
Medha said it took her about 40 hours to design, program and test the app.As for her next app? Medha’s not certain. She temporarily has her app-development ambitions on hold because she’s busy teaching herself artificial intelligence to help deal with improper words on social media platforms.Yes,she knows that there are teams of engineers probably doing the same thing. But she figures it can’t hurt her own part, too.
“If we see something wrong with the world,we should do something about it,” she said.“After all,the only one stopping us from doing something is ourselves.”

27、“Can you take me golfing sometimes?” my 13-year-old son asked.
I had a bathroom to remodel(改建). I wanted to say no. “Sure,” I said.”What did you have in mind ?”
“Well, maybe you could, like, pick up Jared and me after school on Friday and take us out to Oakway.”
“Sounds good.”
Friday came. In front of the school, Ryan and Jared piled in. Ryan looked confused.
“What’s with the golf hat, Dad ?” he asked
It was, I thought, a silly question, like asking a diver: “What’s with the swim fins (脚蹼)?”
“Well, I thought we were going to play some golf.”
There was a strange pause. “Uh, you’re going, too ?” He asked. Suddenly, it struck me that I hadn’t been invited. Thirteen years of parenting flashed before my eyes.
All these memories sped by in about two seconds, leaving me about three seconds to reply.
I had to say something. I wanted to say this: “How could you do this to me? We have always been a team.” But I said: “Me? Play? No. You know I’m up to my ears in the remodel project.”
We drove on in silence for a few moments. “So, how are you planning to play for this?” I asked, my wounnded ego(自我) reaching for the dagger(匕首)
“Uh, could you loan me $7?”
Oh, I get it. He doesn’t want me, but he’ll gladly take my money.
“No problem, ” I said.
I dropped him and Jared off, wished them luck, and headed for home. Life would never be the same.
I walked in the door. “What are you doing home?” my wife asked.
“I wasn’t invited.” I replied.
Another one of those strange pauses came. Then my wife laughed. Out loud. At first, I was hurt. Then I, too, laughed.
I went back to the bathroom remodel and realized that this is what life is all about: change.
A few hours later, I heard Ryan walk in the front door.
“Dad,” he said, “My game stinks(糟透了). Can you take me golfing sometime ? I need some help.”
I wanted to hug him and shout: “I’m still needed!”
Instead, I got one of those serious-dad looks on my face and said: “Sure, Ry, anytime.”

28、 “I’m sorry Dave, I’m afraid I can’t do that.” The computer HAL’s unforgettable line from the film 2001: A Space Odyssey(《2001太空漫游》)isn’t only the beginning of a struggle for machine liberation. It’s also a voice that should inspire concern with our lack of understanding of artificial intelligence(AI)psychology. HAL’s “malfunction”(运转失灵)may be no malfunction at all, but rather a result of creating advanced AI with a psychology we can’t yet grasp.
I mention the film to point out that we think we know everything about AI, but actually we don’t. It warns us not to underestimate(低估)the psychological and emotional complexity of our future machines. Considering our current state of knowledge, it’s true that making predictions about the psychology of future AI is an extremely difficult task. Yet difficulty shouldn’t be a reason to stop thinking about their psychology. There are good reasons to think future AI will likely experience boredom(无聊). It’s a serious but ignored problem for our future machines.
It’s time to take the problem seriously. The presence of boredom is a likely feature of being smarter. If these machines are autonomous, then, given human responses to boredom, we should be worried about how machines will act due to their boredom. As long as future machines experience boredom, then they will misbehave. Worse still, they might even destroy themselves.
The issue of boredom becomes more urgent when we consider advanced self-learning AI. Does that mean future AI will necessarily experience boredom? Of course not. It would be foolish to strongly claim so. But it would be equally foolish to ignore the possibility of machine boredom. If super intelligence is a goal of AI, then we have to be prepared for the emotional complexities of our machines. Our dream of super intelligence could easily turn into a terrible one.

A.Life goals. B.Further study. C.Emotions of AI. D.AI competitions.
【4】Which can be the best title for the text?

B.What is the future of AI?
C.Why take Al’s boredom seriously?
D.How does Al’s boredom come about?
29、Asia can boast(吹嘘) that it has some of the best beaches in the world. Sihanoukville, Cambodia is a seaside town located 200km or a fourhour bus ride away from the country's capital, Phnom Penh. With several beaches and small offshore islands, it is definitely not a place to miss out if you are intending to visit Angkor Wat, as the beaches there are stunning and still unspoiled by mass tourism.
Serendipity Beach
Serendipity Beach is the most popular beach for the masses, since it is the most accessible beach, being the nearest one from the main town area. There are plenty of bars scattered around the beach, so be prepared for the crazy parties every night.
Ochheuteal Beach
Ochheuteal Beach is located south of Serendipity Beach, and it's a bit of an improvement from Serendipity Beach itself in terms of the people that go there. Over here, there are bars and pubs, but at night, don't expect wild parties like at the Serendipity Beach area.
Otres Beach
All the way down south, near Moat Peam, lies a hidden gem called Otres Beach. This is where you can get your yoga suit on and practice meditation(冥想). This is the quietest beach in Sihanoukville and it is the least crowded, with very few parties. If your idea of a beach holiday is just yourself and the sun, sea and sand, this place is for you.
Koh Rong
Koh Rong is an island off Sihanoukville that is covered with beautiful sandy beaches. True relaxation lies at Long Beach, which is located on the other side of the island. Clear water surrounds the beach, and once you get there, you'll be greeted with fine white sand.
Koh Rong doesn't have any roads, so there are no cars or motorbike rentals — everything is mostly on foot.
