六、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Do the British really get together every afternoon at 4 to sit and drink several cups of tea? Ask any of my German students and they will tell you “YES!” But it’s simply not sure.

We drink over 150 million cups of tea a day in Britain, but there is no special time for it. “Tea” is wildly used as a name for the evening meal. This is more common in Scotland and the north of England but you can hear it all over the country. Usually it is the main meal of the day, eaten between 5 and 7. So, “teatime” refers to the meal and not the drink. In the south, the evening meal is often called dinner, however, dinner in the north is the midday meal. In general:

    North: Breakfast—Dinner—Teatime

    South: Breakfast—Lunch—Dinner

What about tea breaks? Surely this must be a special time for tea? Wrong again, I’m afraid. Tea breaks are just an opportunity to have a rest from work for around 10 minutes. In this time you can drink whatever you like (which of course includes tea). This is usually with a small snack, like biscuits. The best time for a tea break is around 11 a.m. or around 3 p.m.

But what about tea rooms? Can I drink tea there? Yes! A tea room is the perfect place to go with friends and family to enjoy tea, cakes and sandwiches. This is known as afternoon tea and is usually saved for special occasions(场合)such as birthday party.

Teatime, tea breaks, afternoon tea… how could you possibly get muddle up(混淆)these terms(术语)?

A.Only people in northern UK use the word “teatime”.

A.People in the UK enjoy drinking tea together.

B.British people drink over 150 million cups of tea a day.

C.“Tea” is widely used as a name for the evening meal.

D.People in northern UK eat the main meal between 5 and 7

【3】From the passage, we can know that ______.

A.British people only drink tea during tea breaks

B.tea breaks allow people to relax during work

C.British people usually take tea breaks early in the morning

    A.Enjoy tea with family.

D.To explain the different time to have tea in the UK.

  • 22、   Many parents set rules for their children’s online activity, such as limiting ( 限 制 ) the amount of time they can spend online.   They complain that their parents share too many photos of them online.

In a 2016 study, it was found that parents in the US share an average (平均) of 116 photos of their kids after they were born. Most were taken before the child turned 8 years old. Many of the photos showed kids in embarrassing ( 尴 尬 的 ) situations like having food all over their faces. Quartz reported.

Parents do like to share their child’s progress as he or she grows up. But their kid doesn’t like it as much. In a survey of UK children between the ages of 12 and 16, 70 percent said they felt their parents didn’t respect (尊重) their online privacy (隐私) according to Digital Parenting Magazine.

In addition, many kids said that other students at school sometimes pick on them after their parents post photos online, CBS News noted. In one case, a girl was bullied (欺负) by boys at school after they found her mom’s blog. There were many family photos in the blog.

“Each time a photo or video is uploaded, it creates a digital footprint of a child, which can follow them into adult life,” a spokeswoman for a leading children’s charity in the UK said. “It’s always important to ask children for their permission before posting or videos of them.”

1Which sentence can be put in the blank of the first paragraph?

A.It is necessary for parents to do so because some children have spent lots of time on the Internet.

B.And they have also made more rules to control the time children spend on online activity.

C.But some children in the US and UK are saying they’d like to make rules for parents too.

2The second paragraph shows us   .

A.the fact of sharing photos of kids in the US

B.a study from the US and UK

    C.embarrassing situations of kids

3Kids don’t like their parents to share their photos because they think   .

A.their photos are not beautiful enough

    B.parents should respect their privacy

C.hey may be bullied at home or school

4The underlined phrase “pick on” may mean   .

    A.捉弄 B.捡起 C.发现

5From the passage, we can know that the writer   .

A.encourages more parents to share their children’s photos online

B.shows it is important for parents to ask children if they can post their photos

C.hopes that parents will not post photos or videos of their children

  • 23、   Next time a customer comes to your office, offer him a cup of coffee. And when you’re doing your holiday shopping online, make sure you’re holding a large glass of iced tea. The physical sensation (感觉)of warmth encourages emotional (情感的) warmth, while a cold drink in hand stops you from making unwise decisions—those are the practical lesson being drawn from recent research by psychologist John A. Bargh.

Psychologists have known that one person’s feeling of another’s “warmth” is a powerful determiner (决定因素) in social relationships. Judging someone to be either “warm” or “cold” is a primary consideration. Much of this is rooted in very early childhood experiences, Bargh argues, when babies’ understanding of the world around them is shaped by physical sensations, particularly warmth and coldness. Classic studies by Harry Harlow, published in 1958, showed monkeys preferred to stay close to a cloth “mother” rather than one made of wire, even when the wire “mother” carried a food bottle. Harlow’s work and later studies have led psychologists to stress the need for warm physical contact from caregivers to help young children grow into healthy adults with normal social skills.

Feelings of “warmth” and “coldness” in social judgments appear to be universal. Although no worldwide study has been done, Bargh says that describing people as “warm” or “cold” is common to many cultures, and studies have found those feelings influence judgment in dozens of countries.

To test the relationship between physical and psychological warmth, Bargh did an experiment which involved 41 college students. A research assistant handed the students either a hot cup of coffee, or a cold drink, to hold while the researcher filled out a short information form. The drink was then handed back. After that, the students were asked to rate (评估) the personality of the assistant . Those who had briefly held the warm drink regarded the assistant as warmer than those who had held the iced drink.

“We based on our physical experiences even when we think abstractly (抽象地).” says Bargh.

    1According to Paragraph 1, a person’s emotion may be affected by ______.

    A. the visitors to his office B. the psychology lessons he has

    C. the things he has bought online D. his physical feeling of coldness

2The author mentions Harlow’s experiment to show that ______.

    A. adults should develop social skills B. caregivers should be healthy adult

    C. babies need warm physical contacts D. monkeys have social relationships

3We can infer from the passage that ______.

    A. abstract thinking does not come from physical experiences

    B. physical temperature affects how we see others

    C. feelings of warmth and coldness are studied worldwide

    D. capable persons are often cold to others

4What would be the best title for the passage?

    A. Drinking for Better Social Relationships.

    B. Physical Sensations and Emotions.

    C. Developing Better Drinking Habits.

    D. Experiments of Rating the Personality.
