21、Death is natural, but do you have any idea of the process of dying? Modern scientists divide the process of dying into two phases --- clinical or temporary death and biological death.Clinical death occurs when the vital organs, such as the heart or lungs, have ceased to function, but have not suffered permanent damage. The organism can still be revived(复活).Biological death occurs when changes in the organism lead to the “breaking up” of vital cells and tissues.Death is then unchangeable and final.
Scientists have been seeking a way to prolong the period of clinical death so that the organism can remain alive before biological death occurs. The best method developed so far involves cooling of the organism, combined with narcotic sleep.By slowing down the body’s metabolism(新陈代谢), cooling delays the processes leading to biological death.
To illustrate how this works, scientists performed an experiment on a six-year-old female monkey called Keta. The scientist put Keta to sleep with a narcotic. Then they surrounded her body with ice-bags and began checking her body temperature. When it had dropped to 28 degrees the scientists began draining blood from an artery. The monkey’s blood pressure decreased and an hour later both the heart and breathing stopped: clinical death set in.For twenty minutes Keta remained in this state. Her temperature dropped to 22 degrees. At this point the scientists pumped blood into an artery in the direction of the heart and started artificial breathing. After two minutes Keta’s heart became active once more. After fifteen minutes, spontaneous(自发的)breathing began, and after four hours Keta opened her eyes and lifted her head. After six hours, when the scientists tried to give her a penicillin injection, Keta seized the syringe and ran with it around the room. Her behavior differed little from that of a healthy animal.

A. By putting her to sleep, lowering her temperature and draining her blooD.
B. By surrounding her body with ice-bags and draining her blood.
C. By lowing her blood pressure and stopping her heart from beating.
D. By draining her blood, lowering her blood pressure and stopping her breathing.
【4】 All of the following indicate that the monkey has almost restored to her original physical state except the fact that__________.

22、 In January 2017, I left a 30-year career in radio to find a new path. Fear, doubt, and anxiety filled my life at that time. I had no idea where life was going to take me.
Anything new in life can be exciting, but it can also come with anxiety. I was beginning a new career with little experience. The language on the ramp(舷梯)was foreign to me. What is involved with a “turn” (a plane being downloaded and loaded) was foreign to me. All of the excitement I had about this job on the first day was slowly changing to fear and doubt by week three.
After two weeks in the classroom, it was time for training on the ramp. On my first day as a trainee, I was partnered with a man named Fernando. My job was zone assist. A zone assist is usually at the back of the plane, bringing the belt loader(带式行李装载机)to the aircraft, unloading the back bins(箱子), servicing the drinking water, and wing walking at a push(紧急时). I was 48 years old at the time and had been without extreme physical activity since high school, so I was about to hit the ramp for the first time in extremely hot conditions.
Another deep fear I had, other than hurting myself, was damaging an airplane. Granted, things happen and we’re human. But making a mistake and damaging a plane that could lead to a delay or taking it out of service would be a disaster for a ramp agent. With that in mind, I was so nervous driving the belt loader up the airplane.
Fernando and I did eight turns that day. I don’t remember how many bags I downloaded. Eventually, I got through the day, tired and sore afterwards. Looking at the schedule for the next day, I believed I would do it better.

【2】Which of the following is NOT the reason why the author nearly hit the ramp?
A.His physical condition. B.His carelessness.
C.The extreme physical work. D.The hot environment.
【3】What made the author nervous at work?
A.Having an old partner. B.Being too tired.
C.Hurting himself. D.Damaging the plane.
【4】What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.The author would continue his new job. B.The author would change his job.
C.The author would have a higher salary. D.The author would get a promotion
23、Beaches are not only great for lying on and doing water sports, and in fact one of the best ways of enjoying them is a classic beach walk. Here at iWantSun. Co. Uk, we’ve been searching the globe to find you the world’s best and most glorious beach walks, and here’s our pick of the top.
The Footpath of the Gods, Amalfi Coast, Italy
The name says it all really and you truly do feel up there to walking along this wonderful mountain coastal path, which offers some of the most striking views on the planet. The path begins at town of Bomerano to charming Positano along the UNESCO World Heritage area of the Amalfi Coast. The whole walk will take you approximately four and a half hours to complete and pass over narrow rocky paths, past sheer cliffs and shining blue bays.
Sydney’s Great Coastal Walk, Australia
Sydney’s coastline is one of the most beautiful and diverse in the world. Here you have national parks, historic sites, steep cliffs, sparkling beaches and quiet bays all in one place. Sydney’s Great Walk runs all the way from Barrenjoey in the north to Royal National Park in the south and takes an incredible seven days to complete. However, if you’re not up to doing the full walk, then there are many different parts of the walk that you can do right in the city. Walking from the city’s famous Bondi Beach to the sweeping curve of Bronte Beach takes just an hour, which takes in some top scenery.
Great Ocean Walk, Australia
The Great Ocean Walk stretches 104 km along Victoria’s famous Great Ocean Road, located on the southern coast of Australia, from the resort town Apollo Bay to the magnificent Twelve Apostles. The Twelve Apostles are the area’s famous stone landmarks which stand out like giants from the sea. The walk passes through a range of landscapes and sights, from national parks, famous surfing spots and deserted beaches, to wild coastlines, cascading waterfalls, lush forests, historic lighthouses and ghostly shipwrecks. Day walks and shorter three-hour walks such as the Wreck Beach Walk or the Lighthouse Cemetery and Lookout Walk can also be enjoyed.

24、Culture is a popular word in sport. Coaches often relate the cause of their success or failure to this word. 【1】
The short answer is, while the cultures of some sports teams can create long-term success, others will only deliver success in the short term, if at all. Culture is a key factor in the success of any organized group. So what is a sports team’s culture?
Every team has a culture. 【2】
Culture is a measure of the observable behaviors your team promotes and accepts. Basically, culture is best defined simply as “the way we do things around here” or “the way we behave around here”. 【3】 Some teams support a certain culture but actually behave in a very different way. Your team’s culture leads to either effective and productive results or ineffective and unproductive results.
Now that we have begun to illustrate the importance of culture, what are the benefits of having a culture that is consistent throughout your organization or at your team level?
【4】 Research has shown that when employees and senior leaders have the same view of the culture, the level of employee (including satisfaction, commitment and likelihood of recommending their organization as a great place to work) is much higher than in less consistent cultures. To put it frankly, when culture is consistent, everyone wins.
Unfortunately, there’s not as much research about team culture in a sporting context. 【5】 There are many elements of organizational culture that are directly applicable in a sporting context.
A.Even if you do not know what yours is, one exists.
B.Consistent cultures tend to have more engaged people.
C.But why should you care about your sports team’s culture?
D.A different and unique culture can be one of your team’s disadvantages.
E.Culture is neither what you think nor want to do, but rather what you do.
F.The real question here is: what are the reasons for the success of a sports team?
G.However, we can draw much from business-focused research, as in the end “people are people”.
