26、How to Pack a Picnic in Paris like a Local
Picnicking is a national sport in France, especially in Paris. But picnicking here is much more than throwing a couple of sandwiches, some Cokes, and a bag of chips into a grocery sack. No, like all things French, there are rules as to how to pack a picnic in Paris.
How to choose a Picnic Place
The best places to have Parisian picnics include parks, gardens, and along the water. And green spaces actually allow you to step foot on the grass. I am not talking about the Tuileries, the Versailles or Luxembourg Garden. On the other hand, along
River Seine is quite nice, as is the Champ-de-Mars. However, no matter which setting you choose, you’ll want a blanket to go with you.
Picnic Trinity
The Holy Trinity of French picnics includes bread, cheese, and meat. These items are the basic elements for a perfect Paris picnic. Of course, this is France and the variety of bread, cheese, meat is enormous. It can be downright hard to choose, but don’t be nervous. It’s not like you’re choosing the next president or anything. It’s just food.
Drinks for a Picnic in Paris
You may also want to bring something to drink for a perfect Paris picnic. Undeniably, wine is the most popular choice. That’s why bottles of rosé fill the store shelves and disappear just as quickly. It’s a light, refreshing, and inexpensive choice. Not a wine lover? Don’t worry! Beer is also acceptable, especially on a hot summer day. A bottle of sparkling is also good to have.
So, there you have it: How to pack a picnic in Paris. However, picnicking in Paris isn’t just about stuffing your blanket with food and wine. Instead, it’s a social tradition, part of the French joie de vivre.

27、Experts say it is difficult to get accustomed to life in a new culture. “Culture shock” is what these experts use when talking about the feelings people have in a new environment. There are three periods of culture shock. In the first period, the newcomers like their new environment. 【1】 In the last period, the newcomers start to adjust to their surroundings and, as a result, enjoy their life more.
There exist several evident factors in culture shock. 【2】 The customs may be different. The public service systems—the telephones, bank, or transportation—may be hard to work out. The simplest things seem to be big problems. The language may be difficult.
【3】 Everybody does in this way or that. But culture shock surprises most people. Often the people who experience the worst culture shock are those who never had any difficulties in their community. Coming to a new country, these people find they don't have the same established positions. They find themselves without any identity. They have to build a new self-image. Culture shock brings about a feeling of losing directions. This feeling may be homesickness. 【4】 They want to protect themselves from the strange environment, and create an escape inside their room for a sense of security. This escape does solve the problem of culture shock for the short time, but it does nothing to make the person familiar with the culture. 【5】 These are the long-term solutions to the problem of culture shock.
A.Who feels culture shock?
B.The weather may be unpleasant.
C.Who wants to go through homesickness?
D.You have to walk out of your comfort zone.
E.Get to know the new environment, make new friends and gain experience.
F.People feel like staying inside all the time when homesick.
G.Then, when the fresh experience dies, they begin to dislike the country and everything else.
28、Earth's longest artificial structure is usually said to be the Great Wall of China while the second-longest is not a wall, but a fence(栅栏). It stretches for 5,614km across eastern Australia and is intended to stop the country's wild dogs, the dingoes, from hunting sheep.
Australia's dingo fence does not stand alone. Millions of kilometres of fences wrap the world. Some are intended to limit the movement of animals, some the movement of people, and some merely to mark the boundary.
Until recently, data on the effects of fences on wildlife have been inadequate. That has changed with the publication of a report by professor Alex McInturff. One discovery he has made is that more than half of published fence research focuses on just five countries—America, Australia, Botswana, China and South Africa. A second is that only a third of these studies examined the impact of fences on anything other than the target species involved, meaning the animals purposely intended to be kept in or out.
Non-target species, however, are often those that have their fortunes most greatly reshaped by the appearance of poles and wire. Australian fences intended to keep out dingoes are also barriers to long-necked turtles, which travel great distances over land when moving between nesting sites. In Botswana fences built to spare cattle from wildlife-borne disease result in serious interference with wildebeest(角马)migrations.
Not every creature fares badly. Hawks(鹰)in Montana gladly sit on newly built livestock fences to hunt small animals, while fence-based spiders in South Africa outperform their tree-based cousins when it comes to catching insects.
Often, though, the winners are creatures that cause trouble for existing ecosystems. Keeping dingoes out of large parts of Australia has allowed aggressive red foxes to multiply. Native rodents(啮齿类动物)have suffered as a result. Some have been brought to the edge of extinction.
【1】What is an original purpose of the fences?
A.To expand the boundary of a country.
B.To protect wild animals from being hunted.
C.To keep livestock like sheep and cattle out.
D.To prevent people from moving around freely.
【2】Which of the following statements is right about the studies on fences?
A.50% of the studies focus on just five countries.
B.About two-thirds of the studies focus on the target animals.
C.Non-target animals shouldn't be involved in the studies.
D.The studies have reshaped the fortunes of some species.
【3】Which animals unexpectedly benefit from fences?
A.Long-necked turtles in Australia.
B.Cattle in Botswana.
C.Tree-based spiders in South Africa.
D.Red foxes in Australia.
【4】What is the writer's attitude to the fences around the world?
A.Cautious.
B.Objective.
C.Disapproving.
D.Favorable.
29、I was waiting for my train and on the subway station’s floor was a man just sitting there. I looked around and nobody stopped so I just went my way. After a few steps, I turned and asked him whether he needed help. He told me his house was one station further and he would only need to take the train there. So I reached for his hand to help him stand up.
He wanted to take the stairs but I feared that he would hurt himself since he seemed too weak to walk, so I asked him to take the elevator. Even though my mind was trying to turn the danger lights on, I put the thought that I should not go alone with a drunken man out of my mind and accompanied him on the elevator.
We arrived on the platform with no incidents. The man’s knees seemed to soften, so I asked him to rest on a bench. While sitting there, he thanked me, telling me that I saved him. No, I said, I really did nothing; he saved himself as he walked on his own feet.
At the next station, we said our goodbyes. Before I knew it, he left 100 dollars and dashed out of the train. There was no way to give him back his money. I wanted to leave it on the seat, but a young woman who thought it belonged to me ran after me and gave me the note.
My initial reaction to getting that money was of shame and I even felt offended. Then I thought he just wanted to thank me, the best way he knew how. Now, my question is—what act of kindness shall I do with these 100 dollars?
【1】Why was the man sitting on the subway station’s floor?
A.Because he wanted to go home.

A.ashamed
B.grateful
C.delighted
D.frustrated
【3】How will the author possibly deal with the money?

B.Buy something favorable.
C.Leave it on the seat.
D.Give it to people in need.
