21、Qi Haoran, a Junior student, was quite busy over the past winter vacation and not just with his homework. Qi, together with other classmates made a volunteer group to call on people to join the Clean Your Plate Campaign (光盘行动). The students went to many restaurants and told people the importance of saving food. "Excuse me, do you know that nine million people around the world still haven't got enough to eat? Could you please not waste food?" They would say this kind of thing hundreds of times every day.
China in recent years has experienced serious problems with wasted food. CCTV reported in January that the food Chinese people waste every year is enough to feed 20 million people for a year. It's a tradition that Chinese people offer lots of food when they invite others to dinner. Many even feel that they will lose face iftheir guests have eaten all their foods
Luckily the campaign has got the support of many. In a restaurant in Xinjiang, the owner gives the guests who have eaten up all that they ordered a sticker. People can enjoy a free meal when they have ten stickers. More than seven restaurants in Beijing have begun to offer smaller dishes and encourage their guests to take leftovers (剩饭剩菜) home.
Wasting food is a serious problem around the world, not only in China. It's said that two billion tons (吨) of food ends up as waste every year. This is as much as half of all the food in the world. The UN Environment Programme and the Food and Agriculture Organization held a "Think, Eat, Save" programme on 2 January to help reduce food waste.

22、Dear Tommy,
I'm in Paris now! Mom, Sally and I came here to visit my uncle. We are having a wonderful time. Dad didn't come because his company (公司) sent him to work in Japan last month. He will have to stay there until November.
For Sally and me, it's our first time to come to France. We are so excited! Last week Mom went to different shows alone. She used to study in Paris, so she knows the city well. Sally and I visited many interesting places with Aunt Susan. Although we can't speak French, it's OK. Aunt Susan and Uncle Tyler can speak both French and English.
Yesterday afternoon, Mom, Sally and Aunt Susan stayed home cooking dinner. Uncle Tyler took me fishing. We drove for an hour and finally arrived at his favorite lake. First, we walked around the lake looking for a good place to fish. Uncle Tyler said we should fish from the top of a large rock.
I was so interested in catching a fish that when I threw my fishing line and hook (鱼钩) out, the rod (鱼竿) went with them! Uncle Tyler got my rod out of the lake. Then he said that next time, I should wait until he put bait (鱼饵) on the hook.
We fished for two hours and my uncle caught four fish. He is a fantastic fisherman. The only thing I caught was a cold. I can't wait to go again soon, so I can become a great fisherman like him.
Yours,
Frank

Two friends ended their friendship because of an argument, even though neither one could remember how the whole thing got started. Such sad events happen over and over in schools.
In fact, according to a report, violence(暴力) has become the greatest threat(威胁) to the lives of teenagers. Why not teach students to deal with conflicts(冲突) like the way to teach them to solve math problems?
First of all, students need to realize that conflict is unavoidable. A report on violence among middle school students shows that most violence between students begin with an insult (侮辱) which is not serious. For example, a fight could start over the fact that one student eats a peanut butter sandwich each lunchtime. Laughter over the sandwich can lead to insults, which in turn can lead to conflicts. The problem isn't in the sandwich, but in the way students deal with the conflict.
Since conflict is unavoidable, students can practice the golden rule of conflict resolution(解决): stay calm. Once the student feels calmer, he or she should choose words that will calm the other person down as well. Soft words spoken at a normal sound level can put out the emotional fire before it becomes out of control.
Listening could be the next step. It allows the two sides to understand each other. One person should describe his or her side, and the other person should listen carefully. After that, the listener can ask non-threatening questions to make the speaker's position easier to understand. Then the two people should change roles.
Finally, students need to consider what they are dealing with. This doesn't mean trying to work out what's wrong with the other person. It means understanding what the real issue(问题)is and what both sides are trying to achieve. For example, the shouting match over a peanut after sandwich might happen because one person thinks the other person is refusing to try new things. Students need to ask themselves questions such as these: How did this start? What do I really want? What am I afraid of? As the issue becomes clearer, the conflict often simply becomes smaller. Even if it doesn't, careful thought helps both sides work out a solution.
There will always be conflicts in schools, but that doesn't mean there needs to be violence. Learning to resolve conflicts can help students deal with friends, teachers, and parents. In that way, conflict resolution is a basic life skill that should be taught in schools.
【1】Why do students need to ask themselves questions when they deal with conflicts?
A.To find out who is wrong. B.To work out how to stop shouting.
C.To get ready to try new things. D.To make clear what the real issue is.
【2】What can we learn from the passage?
A.Violence is more likely to happen at lunchtime.

D.Conflicts usually begin with a serious problem between students.
