六、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   Have you ever noticed how busy our roads are becoming? Every year more and more cars are using them. Already in such countries as America, almost every family has a car. Many accidents happen because cars are now made to travel very fast. Also, people waste time and money every day as long lines of cars move slowly into towns and cities. In most big towns it is very hard to find parking spaces.

Wide, smooth (平的), straight (直的) roads must be built now in place of the old and narrow roads. These roads must not pass through towns and cities. They must not be crossed by other roads.

Today such roads are being built(在建造中) in many countries in the world. These roads have at least two lanes(车道), one for slow-moving traffic and the other for fast-moving traffic.

These roads do not pass through town and cities; horses and bikes are not allowed on them. Accidents do not usually happen. Cars can travel hundreds of miles without having to stop.

But these modern roads often cannot be built in towns and cities. Before a road in a town can be made wider, many buildings have to be pulled down.

Some people feel that more car-parks should be built outside a city, then the drivers should leave their cars and catch a bus or take a taxi to their offices.

1The writer thinks that many accidents happen because___________.

A.roads are old and narrow B.roads go across each other

C.people drive their cars too fast D.all of the above

2How are the new roads different from old roads?

A.They have at least two lanes. B.They cross over one another.

C.They have no fast cars. D.They pass through towns.

3New roads must be built because_________.

A.cars can not travel any longer B.people are very busy

C.the old roads are too straight D.the old roads are too busy

4It is hard to build new roads in towns because__________.

A.horses and bikes go there B.there are too many cars

C.there are too many people D.many buildings have to be pulled down

    5The passage (文章) is mainly(主要的) about ____________.

A.the old roads B.roads of the future

C.how to build the modem roads D.roads in towns and in the country

  • 22、Bicycles in China

Bicycles are back to our lives in China. Now in our country you can see many yellow bicycles in public places. When you walk on the road, you will find a lot of people riding bicycles to schools, shops and anywhere else. Therefore(因此), China is known as “the kingdom of bicycles”. In China, many families have one or two bicycles.

Compared(与……比) with cars, bicycles have many advantages. First, they are much cheaper than cars. Most Chinese can’t afford cars, but they can afford bicycles. Second, bicycles are small enough to park anywhere, while cars need a larger piece of land to park. What’s more, with lower speed, bicycles are safer than cars.

However, bicycles also bring some problems. Some riders don’t obey the traffic rules and some riders don’t think about others’ safety. So they ride too fast. During rush hours, too many bicycles may cause traffic jams. We still have a long way to go to solve the problem.

【1】“The kingdom of bicycles” here is saying _________.

A.China has a large number of bicycles

    B.China makes bicycles

    C.bicycles are a kingdom

    D.only China has bicycles

【2】Which of the following is NOT an advantage of bicycles?

A.Bicycles are much cheaper than cars.

    B.Bicycles are easy to park.

C.Bicycles are more beautiful than cars.

    D.Bicycles are safer than cars.

    【3】What problems can bicycles bring?

A.Bicycles are more and more expensive.

B.Riding bicycles is more dangerous than driving cars.

C.There are no places for so many bicycles.

D.Too many bicycles may cause traffic jams.

【4】What does the last sentence mean?

A.We should drive cars instead of riding bicycles.

B.It’s too far to ride bicycles.

    C.Bicycles are safe enough.

D.We still need to do much to solve the problem.

  • 24、A few weeks ago, my friend had a yard sale. I thought it would help to clean my 9-year-old son’s room. We agreed that whatever we sold in toys would be his money.

The night before the sale, we put toys on the truck as well as a little bike that was too short for my son now. This little bike had at least 2 owners before it came to my son. It was not in the best shape and it certainly was not shiny new but it was still a bike, and the tires(轮胎)were still good.

We put a price of $10 on it but it didn’t sell. So after the sale was over, my friend put it on the sidewalk with a sign that said “FREE BIKE”. Within five minutes, a little girl was standing there. She asked if the bike was really free. My friend said yes. The girl smiled and rode away quickly.

Later that evening when I told my son how much money he had made at the yard sale, he smiled. When he asked about the bike, I told him that a little girl was very happy because she got the bike for free. The grin(咧嘴笑)on my son’s face was much more than when I told him how much he had made. He was so thrilled to hear that someone else would get good use of that little bike.

The bike was given to us, so in this way, I guess we got to pay it forward!

    A.was in the best shape

    B.had very bad tires

    C.was very new
