24、①Walking around the city, you will see girls wearing hanfu on the underground or people wearing T-shirt with Chinese characters in the streets. A new trend (潮流) is getting popular in China. It’s guochao or China-Chic. Guochao adds traditional Chinese culture into products, and it shows the rise of China’s native fashion.
②Guochao got people’s attention in 2018. Before that, the market was controlled by foreign companies. There were few Chinese brands. To win the market share, many Chinese brands followed the footsteps of these Western brands. In 2018, Chinese sportswear brand Li-Ning made changes to the situation. It introduced its Wu Dao collection to the world. The collection not only looked fashionable, but also included elements of traditional Chinese culture. It quickly caught people’s attention at home and abroad. And it created amazing sales.
③Later, many Chinese brands, from food, drinks and clothing to mobile phones and cars, started to add Chinese culture into their products. Even the film and music industries made every effort to create Chinese styles. “We want our products to be the ones that young people would like to share”, they said.
④These brands got what they wanted. Young people gradually converted their attention from Western culture to guochao. They accepted it with pleasure. What’s more, they started to develop interest in traditional Chinese art and literature. Now they wear traditional clothes, practice Chinese calligraphy (书法) and play Chinese musical instruments. Some of them are working together to spread Chinese culture to people around the world.
⑤At the same time, people of different ages start to choose products “made in China”. According to a survey, 68% Chinese people prefer Chinese brands. Among them, 62% say they are open to international brands, but local brands remain the first choice.
⑥No matter how guochao develops, there is one thing that won’t change—people’s confidence in our country’s development and culture is growing.

25、选择最佳答案
It seems that Shanghai students are not as happy as they should be. That’s what an article in a local newspaper said some time ago.
The paper did a survey of some students and asked them if they were happy. 60% of the students said they were happy, but almost 40% said they were unhappy! However, when the paper asked deaf students the same question, almost 90% said, yes, they were happy. It’s pretty surprising when you think about it. Those students who have a disability are happier than those “healthier” classmates or schoolmates.
When I asked my students if they were happy, most said yes, but they also said they had a lot of pressure: too much homework, not enough freedom, not enough money. And some worry about the future, such as getting a good job, and finding a good husband or wife. Clearly, some students handle this pressure better than others, and the deaf students seem to handle (处理) the pressure best of all. They don’t let it get them down.
I can only imagine why this is. Maybe it has a lot to do with “overcoming adversity (战胜逆境)”. The deaf students have already had to deal with a big problem in their lives. They can’t hear, so talking to other people is very difficult, if not impossible. To communicate with others, they’ve had to learn sign language. After learning to “sign”, they’ve found new friends and they’ve also found the joy that comes with “overcoming adversity”.
We can all learn a lesson from these deaf students.

26、Imagine getting the chance to go camping for five days. It would be an adventure in the wild. You could row on a lake every day and leave your smartphone at home. Would you want to try this?
In June, four teenage girls from Minnesota, US, went camping in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. They had a great time – even without their smartphones.
Julia Ruelle, 16, put the group together. Earlier this year, she won an essay contest held by a company. The award was a five-day camping adventure with up to three friends. No parents or guides would be there. This award was supposed to encourage kids to be less dependent on their smartphones.
Ruelle had been to the area before, but she had always gone with her parents. Sharing the experience with friends would be very different. She invited three friends: Anna Wander, Madeline Wilson, and Julianna Torelli.
They came up with a daily plan. “We would wake up early every day. We were done paddling by noon. We ate lunch at the camp. Then it was time for hammocks , reading, writing, making friendship bracelets, talking and napping,” Ruelle said.
“I’m a lot less worried about things,” Wander said when asking how she felt without her cellphone. Her favorite thing to do was to lie in her hammock and look at the lake. Torelli enjoyed cooking. She made blueberry pancakes and sandwiches.
No one felt hungry or homesick. “Mental health can be improved so much. It really helps to get away your smartphones and return to nature.” Ruelle said.

27、 A few years ago I went through a period of such depression (抑郁症) that life didn’t seem worth living. It was like winter, so cold that the sun would never shine.
Then I saw snowdrops (雪花莲) pushing through the freezing, hard ground. I looked at them every day until I felt that if they could come back to life, then so could I. Those green shoots gave me hope in a way that nothing else did.
As spring came, I started to put in more and more plants until the garden was filled with color. Life was growing through my hands; gentle, peaceful, but, above all. Optimistic. If I gave love, it was returned much more.
I could spend hours lost in gardening. The depression I have is passed from my mother. It has affected generation (代) of my family and may happen in any situation. I can be depressed when the sun is shining or I am with a group of loving friends.
Of course, fresh air and exercise help to make depression less serious, but for me gardening is more than that. It means patience as well as hope.
At the end of the9 first garden I made stood a huge tree. It stood up to freezing temperatures and strong winds. It bent(弯曲) but never broke.
