四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、If you walk through a park in the morning or in the evening, you might see a lot of people doing these slow and beautiful movements—Carry the tiger over the mountain and White crane spreads its wings. In fact, they are doing Taichi.

“Taichi is an ancient martial art(武术). It is a common kind of exercise in China. More than 100 million people in over 150 countries practice Taichi at present. Recently UNESCO(联合国教科文组织)has added Taichi to its Intangible Cultural Heritage List(非物质文化遗产名录). Many Taichi fans were happy to hear of it. “This will make Taichi more popular around the world. Hopefully, more people will become healthier by practicing it.” said Chen Bin. He is a Taichi master from the village of Chenjiagou, Henan Province. This village is the birthplace of Chen-style Taichi.

It’s true that doing Taichi is good for our health. It can make us walk and move more freely, and it can also make us stronger. During slow movements, we can focus on our hands and feet. We can control them better. Slow movements also help us to take deep and long breaths.

Taichi also focuses on the harmony(和谐)between yin and yang. It shows how the ancient Chinese people saw the world. The world is full of yin and yang: dark and light, soft and hard(对立)each other completely. As we see in the picture, a white spot is in the black area and a black spot is in the white area. After a dark night, the sun will rise. Leaves fall in auturmn but grow again in spring. Everything keeps changing—that is how the world works.

Taichi carries old Chinese philosophy(哲学), such as being in harmony with nature and using softness to beat hardness. It has become a symbol of Chinese culture.

【1】What’s the advantage of doing Taichi?

A.People can learn about different animals.

    B.People can improve their wealth.

C.People can have a healthier life.

    D.People can walk everywhere freely.

【2】Which of the following words can best describe the movements of Taichi?

    A.Slow and beautiful.

    B.Free and exciting.

    C.Fast and long.

    D.Strong and tiring.

【3】Why has Taichi been added to Intangible Cultural Heritage List recently?

A.Because it is a symbol of Chinese culture.

B.Because it is from the village of Chenjiagou.

C.Because it can make us see the world clearly.

D.Because it can use softness to beat hardness.

【4】What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?

A.To ask people to do Taichi in their free time.

B.To introduce an ancient martial art—Taichi.

C.To teach people how to do Taichi correctly.

D.To explain why Taichi can improve our health.

  • 25、I grew up the “baby” of my family. I was the youngest of three sons in my family. My brothers were five and seven years older than me and did with most of the housework that my mom and dad needed to do around the house. I spent most of my time riding my bike, playing basketball, walking in the woods, or reading books on the sofa. Those days, I spent my time with all the fun and none of the responsibility(责任).

When I was 15 years old, however, both of my brothers had moved out of our home. My dad hurt his back and couldn’t work. We had moved to a mountain top house. I soon found myself then doing more work than I had ever done before. I planted our garden in spring and mowed(收割)the grass in summer. In autumn I carried and collected wood to keep us warm in the winter months to come. And all year round I carried water from a mountain stream back to our house so we could have water to drink and cook with.

At first I complained to myself. After a while, though, I began to find happiness in helping my parents that I loved so much. I sang to myself while I collected wood and smiled while I carried water. I even found myself helping my mom with the dinner dishes and cleaning. I started to realize something that I would carry with me the rest of my life too. When the work is done in love, it isn’t work.

Let all of your work be done in love then. Let all that you do be done in love. Let all of your life be lived with love.

“Keep your eyes on your own paper” is one of the rules that Mrs Archer has taught us. It is a simple rule, but it’s not a rule everybody chooses to follow.

This morning, I had an experience with a “rule breaker” during an English exam. I felt somebody was watching me a little too closely. I turned my head quickly and saw James, who sat right behind me. My eyes caught his and he said in a low voice. “I hope you studied for this test!” I gave him a smile, not sure whether he was joking or not, and returned to my test. This time I leaned (倾身) a little more closely towards my paper, “I can’t see!” James said.

“What am I going to do?” I thought to myself. Cheating (欺骗) went against my beliefs. I curled my arm around my answers.

“He’s your friend, and what are friends for?”

    “You know it’s wrong.”

I tapped (轻敲,轻拍) the top of my desk, hoping for an easy way out of this matter. No easy answer came. I just knew I had to do what I felt was right, even if it made James mad. So I guarded my paper so that he couldn’t see my answers.

When the exam ended, I stood there for a moment, searching for the right words to say to James. “Sorry, James, but you know me well enough to understand how I feel about cheating,” I said slowly and softly. “But maybe I could help you study before the next test.” “OK, Brian,” he smiled. “It might not be easy, but I’ll give it a try.”

I felt happy that my friendship with James hadn’t been destroyed (破坏). Mrs Archer would be proud.

    【1】Who was the “rule breaker”?

    A.Mrs. Archer.

    B.James.

    C.Brian.

【2】Which three actions had the same purpose?

    ① I gave him a smile.

② I leaned a little more closely towards my paper.

③ I curled my arm around my answers.

④ I tapped the top of my desk.

⑤ I guarded my paper so that he couldn’t see my answers.

    A.①②③

    B.②③④

    C.②③⑤

【3】Who said the two underlined sentences and in what way?

    A.Brian, silently in his mind.

    B.James, in a low voice.

    C.Mrs Archer, slowly and softly.

【4】Why did the writer think Mrs Archer would be proud?

A.Because he and James helped each other in the exam.

B.Because both he and James did very well in the exam.

C.Because he followed the rule and kept friendship with James.

  • 27、Soldier and Scholar

In difficult times, there are always people who step up and bring hope and confidence to the public.

Doctor Zhong Nanshan is one of them.

“Please don’t travel to Wuhan unless it’s absolutely necessary”, Zhong Nanshan, a famous respiratory(呼吸科的)expert, reminded the public when the novel coronavirus first hit Wuhan. But despite the danger, he, 84, rushed on an overnight train to Wuhan to fight against the disease.

Known as the hero who defeated SARS in 2003, Zhong’s image and messages are flooding(遍布)social media. Many people say they “trust every word of Zhong”. He has given Chinese people confidence in winning the battle.

A great doctor and honest scholar(学者)

Growing up in a family of doctors, Zhong lives by a simple motto(信条): Save lives and always be honest. In 2003, when SARS hit China, he volunteered to treat patients and asked his colleagues(同事)to send their most serious cases to him. After months of work, his treatment plan for SARS was adopted(采纳)by China and then the whole world, saving thousands of lives, People’s Daily reported.

Zhong is also known for being an honest scholar. In 2003, when authorities(官方)said that the SARS virus was under control, he publicly refuted their claim. “I couldn’t help myself. I said it’s not all under control.” Zhong said in a later interview. His honesty won widespread praise from the Chinese public.

    Back to the frontlines

Seventeen years later, Zhong is once again leading an expert team to study the novel coronavirus. Although this new virus is known to be more dangerous to the elderly, Zhong doesn’t seem worried about his own safety: On Jan 18, he took a high-speed train from Guangzhou to Wuhan. Two days later, he became the first expert to make certain that the new virus can be spread between humans. On January 29, he and his colleagues spent over four hours online checking five patients who were in serious condition.

The next day, he chose the treatment for those patients. Under his guidance, his team developed a rapid test kit(快速检测试剂盒)for the disease that can show results within 15 minutes.

As Peoples Daily wrote, “the 84-year-old Zhong Nanshan shows his professionalism as a scholar, courage as a soldier, and a sense of duty as the backbone(脊梁)of our nation.”

【1】Which of the following information is NOT right about Zhong Nanshan?

    A.He is a famous doctor.

    B.His parents are both workers.

C.He is brave in the face of difficulties.

D.He tells truth to the public.

【2】What does the underlined word “refuted” mean?

    A.Support others’ opinions.

B.To say that a statement was false.

    C.To laugh at authorities.

D.To be in the fight against the epidemic.

【3】What has Zhong done to fight the disease?

A.He said that the virus could spread between humans.

B.He treated five severe patients in a day.

C.He chose some special patients to receive treatment.

D.The test kit from his team can show results in 15 seconds.

【4】The aim of the story is to ______.

A.encourage people to stay at home

B.state the importance of Zhong’s warming

C.guide people to be honest and brave

    D.praise Zhong’s courage and spirit
