This was my first time to help my father in his business. I got $ 6 for my work that day.

During his long work life, Pei has left over 50 buildings with different styles (风格) around the world. According to him, it is dangerous for an architect to be marked with only one style. Instead, he was known for his eclectic style, bringing together opposite ideas into each design-East and West, ancient and modern, natural and man-made.
His style may come from his life experiences. He was born and grew up in China, and then he went to the US to study architecture at 18. At the same time, the lines and the windows in the roof bring something modern to the museum.
Even in Pei's 80s when he was designing the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar, he still kept learning new things. He spent months in the Middle East visiting special places.
