  • 24、   Recently, I was invited to watch my students’ cross—country meet (越野赛). At first, I didn’t know if I should go because I was not a sports fan of any kind and my job had nothing to do with sports. Although many people might say they wouldn’t exactly consider the cross—country a sport, I would disagree. The cross—country beginners have to work out and exercise just like you do for any other sports.

I never knew how much fun I would have watching a group of my students run for fun. Whether they ran fast or slow, they still tried their best to complete the game. They kept going no matter how tired they were.

It was wonderful to see how encouraging the audience ( ) was to runners everywhere. It wasn’ t just their runners that they would cheer for. It was all runners, fast or slow. When the kids heard the audience cheering them on, or even just clapping (鼓掌) to encourage them, they would run faster and faster in search of the finish line; it was just so cool to watch.

I am proud of each one of my students who ran yesterday. They did a wonderful job. I surely want to supports cross—country meet later. I’m not talking about coaching it or anything like that, but just to support them by going to their meets.

    1What is the writer?

    A.A coach. B.A runner.

    C.A sports reporter. D.A teacher.

2Before the cross—country meet, the writer________.

A.never took part in sports B.was not a lover of sports

C.was good at running very much D.wanted to be a good runner

3Which of the following is TRUE?

A.The audience paid more attention to competitors who ran fast.

B.The writer’s encouragement made all the students believe in themselves.

C.The audience’s cheering played an important role in encouraging runners.

D.The coming of the writer cheered up all the runners on the sports field.

4What can we learn from the passage?

C.More students should take part in the cross— country.

D.The writer found she had a great talent for sports.

5The writer decides to support cross—country meets by________.

A.watching the meets B.guiding the runners

C.running together with others D.giving gifts to runners

You will read about how you are a citizen(公民、市民) in your school, community and nation. A citizen is a person who belongs to a place. You are a citizen of the community where you live and the nation where you were born.

    Citizens Have Rights

As a citizen, you have rights that the government protects. A right is something you may do. As a citizen, you have a right to speak freely and to practise your religion. You also have the right to privacy. That means you may decide what to show or tell someone and what not to tell.

    Citizens Have Responsibilities

Along with rights, citizens have responsibilities. A responsibility is something that you should do. For example, you should follow the laws. A law is a rule that everyone in a community, state or country must follow. Laws keep people safe and help them get along well with one another. When people follow the traffic laws, they help keep others safe. When you follow laws in a park, you help others enjoy the park.

    Being a Good Citizen

Good citizens care about people's rights. They try to make things fair and safe for everyone. Good citizens work together to solve problems. Children can be good citizens by solving problems together in their school or community. They may follow proper steps to deal with problems. First, name the problem. Then, list ways to solve it. Next, choose the best way. And finally, find out if it solves the problems.

  • 27、Self- reflection (反省) means stopping the mad rush of activity and keeping yourself and your mind cool, so your brain can evaluate (评价) the input that it has already received. Some people prefer to do their self-reflection in the way of thinking, while others do it in the way of writing something, like keeping a diary or writing notes of some kind.

School textbooks are often divided into units of study. This can make self-reflection easier for someone who wants to do it. Self-reflection can be done in any of the subjects you are learning: math, art or others. Sometimes you are reminded that the unit is over because there is some kind of test. Using those natural breaks above as chances to reflect is a good way.

As a student, you can do self-reflection at school. First, you can write down some notes on things that you learned in this unit that you did not know before you began. Let your mind think over the notes and make some connections with what you have learned. Next, think about the things that you still wonder about. For example, you learned a new way to solve a math problem, but you are not sure when to use it. Writing down your questions will help you remember to seek answers when you meet the same topic again.

Self-reflection is an important skill for a successful student. If you have never taken the time to reflect, try it now.

【1】If you keep a reflection diary, that means you are doing self-reflection by the form of___________.

    A.speaking

    B.action

    C.writing

    D.thinking

【2】___________is a natural break chance to reflect.

A.Taking some kind of rest when school is over

B.That school textbooks are divided into units

C.Keeping a diary or writing notes of some kind

D.Letting your mind think over the notes

【3】When taking notes or keeping a reflection diary, you should___________first.

A.make some connections to solve a problem

B.let your mind think over the notes or diary you have written

C.write down some notes you don’t know before you began

D.seek answers next time you meet the same topic

【4】The underlined word “seek” in the passage means___________.

    A.find out

    B.ask for

    C.put out

    D.take down

    【5】This passage mainly tells us___________.

    A.the ways to do self-reflection

B.how to be a successful student

C.that self-reflection is an important skill

D.doing self-reflection can evaluate the input your brain has already received
