二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、17-year-old Tibetan girl Cigla is a freshman at Nagqu No.2 Senior High School in Lhasa, which sits 3,650 meters above sea level. She now plays point guard for the school’s 12-member female basketball team.

“Practice makes perfect. You get used to the elevation (海拔) when you love the sport and train hard enough,” said the potential basketball star, who has been passionate about the sport since taking it up three years ago.

Cigla wears wristbands when playing her favorite sport. With her outstanding speed, agility (灵活) and accurate passes, she never fails to shine on the basketball court, even when she competes against the boys. Though she is a freshman in high school, Cigla already has a clear picture of her future-entering a sports college to study basketball. In the eyes of Cigla, who comes from a poor herder’s family in northern Tibet’s Nagqu City, studying in Lhasa, the region’s most developed city, has made it much easier for her to realize her basketball dream.

With an average altitude of over 4,500 meters, Nagqu is among the most uninhabitable places in Tibet, known as the “roof of the world”. Low-oxygen environments and extreme weather have long influenced the health of Nagqu students, hampering the development of primary education in the area.

Like Cigla, many students at the school are from poor farmers’ and herders’ families. Dawa Droma, a senior student also on the school’s female basketball team, said her passion (热爱) for the sport started from her first basketball game in her freshman year.

“I had never touched a basketball before that game but joined the class team anyway. When I scored and heard my classmates cheer for me, I couldn’t feel more proud. That’s how I fell in love with basketball and never looked back,” she recalled. Reflecting on the influence of basketball on her life, Dawa Droma said the sport has helped her get fit and build up confidence over the years. “Meeting players from different schools has certainly made me a more outgoing person,” she said.

【1】Which of the following words can best describe Cigla’s feeling about basketball?

    A.Bored.

    B.Enthusiastic.

    C.Confused.

    D.Confident.

【2】What may help Cigla realize her basketball dream greatly?

    A.Her family background.

    B.Her parents’ support.

    C.Her plans.

    D.Her school’s location.

【3】Which of the following is the closest in meaning to the underlined word “hampering” in paragraph 4?

    A.Improving.

    B.Decreasing.

    C.Preventing.

    D.Leading.

【4】What can be inferred from the last paragraph?

A.Dawa Droma seldom feels proud when scoring.

B.Dawa Droma has been affected by basketball greatly.

C.Playing basketball increases Dawa Droma’s sense of touch.

D.Meeting players from different schools makes Dawa Droma upset.

  • 27、On the morning of June 17, three Chinese crew(机组)members blasted into the sky, flying to China’s space station, Tiangong, which is being built. Powered by the giant Long March-2F rocket, their Shenzhou-12 capsule(太空舱)successfully docked(对接)at the space station’s core module(核心舱), Tianhe, after just a few hours.

After the ship docked with the space station, the astronauts opened four different hatches(窗口)to access the Tianhe core module, which was sent into orbit(轨道)on April 30. Tianhe has living rooms, a bathroom, a kitchen, dining area, exercise area, and work stations spread over 110 square meters. With only the American-led International Space Station for competition, Tiangong might have the best food available in space. There are more than 120 kinds of different food on board, all prepared to the astronauts’ tastes and health requirements. Among them are classic Sichuan dishes kung pao chicken and yuxiang shredded pork. Both dishes are surprisingly well-suited for space consumption(消耗): when wrapped(包裹)up in a pancake, they are easy to eat without making a mess; they contain a rich variety of ingredients(原料); there are no scraps like bones or skin to dispose(除掉)of; and they contain lots of calories. Plus, they’re delicious.

During their stay, the astronauts are scheduled to complete two spacewalks. The crew will use robotic arms to move around the ship and carry out repair tasks, as well as various experiments and tests on the Tiangong’s equipment(设备). But high on the crew’s to-do-list is to open the packages of supplies delivered by the Tianzhou-2 cargo spacecraft less than three weeks ago. The 6.8 tons of supplies include two specialized(专门的)spacesuits for spacewalks, oxygen tanks, food, water, propellant(推进燃料), and other supplies. At the end of the mission, the crew will ride the Shenzhou-12’s descent(降落)vehicle back to Earth, and land at the Dongfeng landing site in the Badain Jaran Desert in the western part of Inner Mongolian.

【1】Which of the following did Shenzhou-12 capsule get power from?

    A.The space station.

    B.Long March-2F rocket.

    C.Shenzhou-12 capsule itself.

    D.The space station’s core module.

【2】What’s the main idea of paragraph 2?

A.The housing conditions in the space station.

B.The food in the space station is delicious.

C.Astronauts’ living conditions in the space station.

D.The Tianhe core module was sent into orbit.

【3】Which of the following is possibly true?

A.The food on Tiangong can’t meet the astronauts’ health requirements.

B.It is easy to eat without a mess to wrap the dishes up in a pancake.

C.There is no place for astronauts to do exercise.

D.The food astronauts cat contains few calories.

【4】What is the top thing to do on the crew’s to-do-list according to paragraph 3?

    A.To carry out repair tasks.

    B.To do various experiments.

C.To use robotic arms to move around the ship.

D.To open the packages of supplies delivered by the Tianzhou-2 cargo spacecraft.

  • 28、My day is never complete without being outdoors and taking photos of wildlife, no matter the season. My husband, Mick and I took early retirement. Upon retirement, we moved from the Niagara region to the small town of Dwight, Ont. Our home was on a small private lake in the country. Luckily , there was lots of wildlife to keep it interesting.

One of our neighbours, George, introduced me to the wonderful world of bird watching. George had many feeders in his yard and I quickly learned the names of the many local birds that visited them often. My favourite was the ruby-throated hummingbird. These tiny , super fast little birds were both interesting and amazing to watch.

I remember one summer day going over to George’s house and standing on a ladder beside the feeder, trying to get a closeup of the tiny-winged bird, when it started to rain. I was sheltered as I stood on the second-to-top rung of the ladder so my camera and I didn’t get drenched. Then came the most amazing experience of my life. There must have been two dozen hummingbirds flying around me and the feeder for an hour or so, I enjoyed feeling the air across my face created by their hardworking wings and watching some of them come right up to within inches of my face looking at me. I was able to get a few good closeup shots but what was most memorable was the feeling of being part of the hummingbird community if only for that hour.

When the rain cleared, I remember walking back to my lake house still hearing the hum of two dozen little wings. That’s when I decided I needed to put up my own hummingbird feeder to study and learn from these little birds.

I bought a small feeder, filled it with sugar water and placed it in the tree outside my kitchen window. Within a short time I got my first little visitor. I’ll never forget how excited I was and how excited I am today, even after six years, every time I see one.

    A.She has a generous spirit.

B.She is a specialist in wildlife.

【2】What does the underlined word “drenched” mean in Paragraph 3?

    A.Suddenly lost.

    B.Easily noticed.

    C.Deeply attracted.

    D.Completely wet.

【3】What was the author’s most unforgettable experience?

    A.Taking photos of hummingbirds.

    B.Getting really close to hummingbirds.

C.Going bird watching with her husband.

D.Setting up feeders with the help of George.

【4】What happened after the author set up her own feeder?

A.Her quiet life came to an end.

B.A group of birds flew around her.

C.A hummingbird soon paid a visit.

D.Sugar water in it was left untouched.

  • 29、The temperature of the sun is over 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit at the surface, but it rises to perhaps more than 16 million degrees at the center. The sun is so much hotter than the earth that matter can exist only as a gas, except at the core(核心). In the core of the sun, the pressures are so great against the gases that, despite the high temperature, there may be a small solid core. However, no one really knows, since the center of the sun can never be directly observed.

Solar astronomers do know that the sun is divided into five layers or zones. Starting at the outside and going down into the sun, the zones are the corona, chromosphere, photosphere, convection zone and finally the core. The first three zones are regarded as the sun’s atmosphere. But since the sun has no solid surface, it is hard to tell where the atmosphere ends and the main body of the sun begins.

The sun’s outermost layer begins about 10,000 miles above the visible surface and goes outward for millions of miles. This is the only part of the sun that can be seen during an eclipse (日食) such as the one in February 1979. At any other time, the corona can be seen only when special instruments are used on cameras and telescopes to shut out the glare(刺眼的强光)of the sun’s rays.

The corona is a brilliant, pearly white, filmy light, about as bright as the full moon. Its beautiful rays are a sensational sight during an eclipse. The corona’s rays flash out in a brilliant fan that has wispy spikelike (一束束穗状) rays near the sun’s north and south poles. The corona is thickest at the sun’s equator.

The corona rays are made up of gases streaming outward at tremendous speeds and reaching a temperature of more than 2 million degrees Fahrenheit. The rays of gas thin out as they reach the space around the planets. By the time the sun’s corona rays reach the earth, they are weak and invisible.

【1】Matter on the sun can exist only in the form of gas because of the sun’s ______.

    A. size   B. age

    C. location   D. temperature

【2】With what topic is the second paragraph mainly concerned?

    A. How the sun evolved.

    B. The structure of the sun.

    C. Why scientists study the sun.

    D. The distance of the sun from the planets.

【3】All of the following are parts of the sun’ s atmosphere EXCEPT the _______.

    A. corona B. chromosphere

    C. photosphere   D. core

【4】The paragraph following the passage most likely discusses which of the following?

    A. The remaining layers of the sun.

    B. The evolution of the sun to its present form.

    C. The eclipse of February 1979.

    D. Scientists will cost more money on researching the corona.
