For Schultz, a 77-year-old man, this is a chance of a lifetime. Schultz is a member of a group of around 50 Germans who are on a journey along the ancient Silk Road.
Speaking of his journey, he says, “1. I have been deeply interested in the Silk Road since I was a child, and now I finally have a chance to experience it.
The two-month bus journey will take the group through Germany, Russia, and other 4 European countries. They will then enter China for the country’s western part. 2.这将会成为一次不同寻常的旅途。
Nearly half of the 13,000-kilometer trip will be inside China. From Xinjiang in the west to Shanghai in the east, the German visitors will see more than 20 Chinese cities. “We have managed the trip of the Silk Road for around 10 years. An increasing number of people, not only from German-speaking countries, have been joining us,” says Liu Guoqiang from China Tours.
3. Almost 26 million foreigners traveled to China in 2015, and about 5 million of them were from Europe, Beijing, Shanghai, and the Changjiang River arc traditional Chinese travel places for European tourists. Speaking of where he wants to go, Schultz says, “4.Compared with modern cities, the culture in western China attracts me more.”

27、The Arctic, Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans are the four oceans we learned about in the Geography class. But now we have a new ocean.
On World Ocean Day, which falls on June 8, the National Geographic Society announced it would recognize(承认)the Southern Ocean in Antarctica(南极洲).
Unlike the Arctic, Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans—which are defined by the continents(大陆)around them, the Southern Ocean is instead characterized by the Antarctic Circumpolar Current(南极绕极流). According to National Geographic, the Southern Ocean includes most of the waters surrounding Antarctica out to 60 degrees south latitude(纬度).
“It’s reported that it is the only ocean to touch three others and to completely embrace(包围)a continent rather than being embraced by several continents,” Sylvia Earle, an American biologist and oceanographer, told the Daily Mail.
Those familiar with the Southern Ocean know it’s unlike any other ocean. “Anyone who has been there will find it difficult to explain what’s so amazing about it, but they’ll all agree that the glaciers(冰川)are bluer, the air colder, the mountains more frightening and the landscapes more attractive than anywhere else you can go,” Seth Sykora-Bodie, a marine scientist, told National Geographic.
Because of the different environment of the Southern Ocean, it’s home to thousands of unique species(物种). The ocean also has wider ecological effects. For example, humpback whales are known to feed on small shrimp off Antarctica during the summer before moving north to the warmer climates of Central and South America for the colder winter months, according to the Daily Mail.
The National Geographic Society hopes their revised(修订过的)maps will help the public learn more about the area, and it helps to encourage Southern Ocean protection—but its importance is even beyond that.
“We think it’s very important from an educational standpoint to bring attention to the Southern Ocean as a fifth ocean,” Alex Tait, a geographer, told the Post. “So when students learn about parts. of the ocean world, they learn it’s an interconnected ocean, and they learn there are these areas called oceans that are really important, and that there’s a special one in the icy waters around Antarctica.”
