22、 Newton's law of motion ( 运动定律).where every action has a reaction, is appropriate not just to physics. 【1】 from the value of products and prices of produces to customer choices, advertising affects society and plays an important role in increasing business sales.
【2】 When companies use advertising, sales increase, according to Marcel Bleustein-Blanchet, founder of a French advertising company. The increase in business sales also promotes the quality of life for consumers. Basically, advertising causes a chain reaction that increases the economy of the area where the product or service ad is.
【3】 In the minds of consumers, advertising can add value to a product. The image or brand that advertising helps to create becomes a part of the product, which is what makes one product brand more valuable than the competitors. This is why a consumer may be willing to pay a higher price for a name brand product rather than buy a brand they are not familiar with at a lower cost.
Pricing. 【4】 It spurs (促进)a sense of competition. When one company advertises a product for its price, its competitors want to stay competitive. Then they may lower their prices to meet the competition.
Consumer choice. Advertising also has an influence on businesses because it leads to the creation of new products and improvement of existing products to meet consumers' needs. 【5】However, when advertising introduces a new product that is better than the existing one. market share can quickly shift to the company offering the newly-advertised product.
A. Product value.
B. Product quantity.
C. Economic influence.
D. Advertising can be a form of price control.
E. An increase in competition has effects on the market.
F. One company may possess a larger share of the market for a time.
G. It is also true that advertising causes reactions that occur in society and business.
23、 Decision-making can be extremely difficult. Decision-making styles are significantly different in different cultures.
In any approach to a problem and in any negotiations, the Western world turns to the "I to you" approach while Japan, the "you to you" approach. The former means both sides present their arguments openly from their own point of view. Naturally, often comes a confrontation (冲突) situation, which Westerners are very skillful in dealing with. The latter is based on each side trying to understand the other person's point of view. Thus, the direction of the meeting is a mutual (相互的) attempt to reduce confrontation and achieve harmony.
Besides, Western decision-making goes mostly from top management and often does not consult middle management or the worker. However, in Japan great consideration is given to the thoughts and opinions of everyone at all levels. Based on "bottom-up direction", ideas can be created at the lowest levels, travel upward through an organization and have an effect on the final decision.
Difference in decision-making also comes from different communication styles. The Japanese business person works to achieve harmony, even if the deal fails, and will spend whatever time is necessary to determine a "you to you" approach, communicating personal views only indirectly. They put a thorough job above the Western deadline approach. So the Japanese are thorough in their meetings. Thus Americans are often annoyed by the many meetings in many Japanese businesses. But where the American is pressing for a specific decision, the Japanese is trying to think up a rather broad direction.
On the other hand, once a given agreement is made, it is the Japanese who sometimes wonder at the slow pace in which Westerners carry out the decision. The Japanese are eager to move forward and Westerners, perhaps, lag behind as they take the time for in-depth planning.
【1】A Japanese business bases its decision .
A.on top-down direction B.on nothing but its workers' views
C.on bottom-up direction D.only on its top leaders' opinions
【2】The text mainly tells us that Japan and the Western world .
A.face great difficulty in making decisions
B.are different in decision-making styles
C.have all members contribute to a decision
D.have two approaches:"I to you" and "you to I"
【3】Which of the following is TRUE of the Westerners?
A.They carry out the decision once it is made.

C.They work to achieve harmony in doing business.
D.They are good at handling confrontation situation.
【4】The author's attitude towards Japanese decision-making is .
A.positive B.critical
C.negative D.casual
24、Lee’s mother Sun became unexpectedly pregnant while married to a disabled man. Doctors told her that because of a medication she had been taking her child would not be normal. She chose to continue with the pregnancy and in 1985 in Seoul, South Korea, little Hee Ah Lee was born with only two fingers on each hand, disfigurement of her legs, and slight brain injury. The hospital told Sun that she could not care for the child at home and her relatives wanted her to place the child for adoption in a foreign country. Sun, however, thought her baby would live a successful life.
When Lee was a pre-schooler, Sun wanted her daughter to take piano lessons for two reasons. One was that she felt it would help her strengthen her hands so she could hold a pencil. It was a three-month contest of wills between mother and daughter that led to a conflict in which Sun actually threw her daughter on the floor in frustration. It was at the age of 7 that Lee won Korea’s 19th National Handicap Conquest Contest and was presented with her award by the President of Korea.
Lee has won numerous awards, and is a widely traveled concert pianist with more than 200 appearances. Her first album titled “Hee-ah, a Pianist with Four Fingers” was released in June, 2008.

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
On a Friday evening in December, two weeks before Christmas, I lost my job. I hadn’t seen it coming. I was excited for the weekend when my daughter, Kristil, planned to get our Christmas tree. Then I listened to my voicemail “We’re sorry, but your work assignment has ended as of today.” My heart sank.
I was the only parent. My paycheck was survival. I did everything I could to give Kristil a good life, but there were some things my love couldn’t fix. The next day as we searched for our tree, I struggled to be cheerful as I eyed the Christmas tree prices.
Monday morning, I dropped Kristil at school and set off on my moneymaking pursuits. Looking for where to sell stuff, I headed to the pawnshop with a garnet ring set in 14-karat gold that had belonged to my mother. “Best I can do is $70,” the owner said. “The stones are worthless. We’re only interested in the gold. ” Next was the antiques store. I sold six Precious Moments sculptures for $150. I ended the day $220 richer—not bad.
Over the next week, I desperately applied for jobs as my bank account grew smaller. I felt as if the world was closing in on me. On a weekend afternoon, I dropped Kristil in a wealthy gated community for a birthday party. I watched as she went in, surrounded by all the nice things we couldn’t afford. I drove home defeated.
Back at home, it had been snowing on and off all morning. I noticed a petite woman in an blue overcoat struggling to open her car door against the wind. As she got out, I realized it was my old professor, Esther Heffernan. I hadn’t seen her since we’d met for lunch three months ago. I’d first met Esther 10 years earlier, when I was her student in Madison, Wisconsin. Kristil was 3 at the time, and I sometimes took her to class. She was understanding and would bring coloring books to occupy Kristil.
After I graduated, Esther kept in touch, meeting me for lunch every few months. I had grown to love her like family. I rushed to the front of my building. “What are you doing out in this weather?” I asked as we hugged.
