25、 Being a teenager can be challenging, but it can also be exciting. You’re becoming more independent and making decisions for yourself. You are also learning to take risks and solve problems better. And changes are happening throughout your body, even in your brain.
The changes in your brain are influencing how you develop into an adult. Imagine the structure (结构) of your brain is like a big road map. Lots of roads lead to different destinations (目的地). When you were a child, as you learnt new things, your brain made more and more roads to different destinations. By the time you become a teenager, many different roads lead to the most important places on the map. Now your brain’s job is to make that map more efficient (有效率的).
As a result, your experiences as a teenager actually influence the way that your brain develops. If you spend hours playing video games, what skills do you use? You learn to see something with your eyes and respond to it with your hands. As you develop those skills, your brain is making sure that the roads leading to them are especially fast and efficient. So, your video-game playing could be preparing you for a career such as a pilot.
This is a great time for you to practice new skills and discover what you’re good at and try what you love doing. Go out and try different activities, and stick to them if you think they’re useful. Remember that with everything you do, you’re shaping your brain for the future.

A Your temperature can affect(影响) how you feel about other people. A study showed that experiencing physical warmth gives people a more positive attitude(积极的态度). For example, if you're holding a cup of hot coffee, you are probably more selfless towards others. | B About one in 10 people are left-handed. Many people think being left-handed happens for no reason. But. a new study shows that it’s caused by genes. British scientists have found genetic instructions(基因指令)in human DNA. They might cause people to be left-handed at birth. The instructions affect the part of the brain that deals with (处理) language. This might be why left- handers are better at learning languages. |
C A group of French researchers found that children with older brothers take longer to develop language skills. These children had a two-month delay (延迟) in language development on average(平均) compared to children with older sisters. Researchers think this is because older brothers talk more often in order to draw their parents' attention. Older sisters might talk with their younger sisters or brothers more. | D Are you a quiet person? Maybe you can try to pretend(假装) to be outgoing. 27、I started learning English when I was 6 years old. For 8 years I have learned English in the way everybody else did—by going to English classes. It was useless. I did everything that the teachers told me to do. But I didn’t get any results. I mean, I was always one of the best students in class. However, it took me a long time to read English texts. I made lots of mistakes when writing, and my pronunciation was bad, and I could only speak English very slowly. After my eight years of studying hard, these were the results.

My talented friends, Wojtek and Michael Ryszard, who are my partners now, were both fantastic English learners. What’s more, every time I heard them speak, they seemed to have a bigger vocabulary(词汇). I wanted to be as good as them, so I studied harder. And my English improved. Wojtek and Michael also introduced me to SuperMemo, which has been very important in my life. And, of course, I could discuss the English language with them, which was a great thing.

29、Smart phones are the main invention of modern technology, which are completely part of our daily lives. If we look at our society, we can see that all kinds of people are using smart phones. ________ , I would like to suggest that all smart phones in the family should be put away for sixty to ninety minutes each evening.
