  • 1、阅读下面的短文,然后将画线部分的句子译成汉语或英语。

If you find it hard to learn English, think of the foreigners who learn Chinese. The number of people learning Chinese around the world reached 100 million in 2017, 1. Europe’s first Chinese-English primary school recently opened in the British capital of London. But do you know how foreigners learn Chinese? Mike Fuksman, Teens’ foreign editor (编辑) from the United States, has lived in China for more than seven years. 2.他想和我们一起分享他学习中文的故事。

Like many foreigners, Mike only knew two words of Chinese (“hello” and “thank you”) when he came to China in 2009. As we can probably guess, his life was difficult for a while after he arrived.3. Simple tasks like ordering food or taking a taxi were quite stressful. Milk knew he had to learn more Chinese, so he signed up for a class. His teacher was very helpful, although Milk didn’t learn enough to have a real conversation. 4.后来,他也坚持自学,但是进步缓慢。 He became very disappointed.

Finally, he found that the best way to learn Chinese is to make friends with native (本土的) speakers and spend time with them. Around this time, 5. Mike started playing in a band with a Chinese woman who became one of his best friends in Beijing. He learned a lot of Chinese by hanging out with her. In this way, he’s learned enough Chinese to take care of many tasks.

  • 25、What is your favourite colour? Do you like yellow, orange or red? If you do, you must be an active person who enjoys life. Do you like blue? Then you may be quiet, shy and prefer following to leading.

Colours influence our moods. There is a relationship between colours and moods. A yellow room makes people feel cheerful and more relaxed than a dark green one; and a red dress brings us warmth and joy on the saddest winter day. Black is depressing (令人压抑的). There was a black bridge over River Thames. The number of people who killed themselves on that bridge used to be larger than that on any other bridge in the area---until it was repainted green.

  • 27、We usually think that plants always stay quiet and never speak. Grass doesn’t cry when you cut it; flowers don’t shout when people pick them. But in fact plants talk to each other all the time. Their language is one of chemicals.

Over the years, scientists have found that different types of plants, from trees to tomatoes(复合物) into the air to help neighboring plants. Scientists from Kyoto University in Japan looked at tomato plants that was bitten(被咬)by insects. To start out, they grew plants in two bags and joined the bags with a tube (管子). One plant was bitten by insects. The other was clean.

They found that when insects bite plant leaves, the plants don’t sit quietly. They send a chemical called “hexvic” into the air. Humans can’t notice it, but these chemicals carry a smell that neighboring plants can notice. This way the same scientists put insects on the clean plants. The plants were able to kill nearly 50% of the insects, much more than their sick neighbors.

It was surprising that the plants that had not been bitten didn’t send the chemical until they received the message from their infested (受侵的) neighbor, the scientists said. These findings could be used to help farmers with the control of the insects which harm their plants.

Do you still remember the lecture from China’s Tiangong space station last year? On March 23, astronaut Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping ang Ye Guangfu gave another one! It was livestream(直播)worldwide. What fun experiments did they do this time?

    Hot “ice”

Last time, the astronauts made a water ball in space. This time, they turned a water ball into an “ice” ball! Well, it’s not a【1】 ice. It’s supersaturated sodium acetate solution(过饱和乙酸钠溶液).

The supersaturated solution is very unstable(不稳定的). The astronauts dropped a small crystal(晶体)of sodium acetate into the ball-shaped solution. Suddenly, more sodium acetate crystals grew, making a white ball of “ice”. This “ice” is anything but cold, however. The p【2】 actually gives off heat.

    A bridge of water

How do you build a “bridge” with water? It’s h【3】 to do it on Earth. But in the space station, with little gravity, it’s quite easy!

In the lecture, Wang Yaping first made two water balls on two plates, then let them touch each other. Next, Wang p【4】 the two plates apart, and the water between them didn’t break. It became a “bridge”! This is because the surface tension(表面张力)of water is not disturbed by gravity in space. The surface tension keeps the “skin” of the water strong so that the bridge doesn’t break.

    Separate water and oil

If we m【5】 oil and water in a bottle on Earth, they will quickly separate because they have different densities(密度). Gravity brings the water down while the oil stays on top. H【6】, if you do this in the space station, with no gravity, the oil and water will blend together.

How can we separate them, then? In the lecture, Ye Guangfu rotated(旋转)the bottle to c【7】 centrifugal force(离心力). With this man-made gravity, the heavier water is pushed to the furthest point, which brings the lightest oil closer to the center.
