22、 Even if you love school, it can be hard to stay excited about doing homework. Just like with any other kind of work, it's important to set personal goals and find your own inspiration to keep going. So you help yourself focus by caring for yourself and organizing your time wisely while you work.
【1】
It's hard to focus on homework if you're tired, hungry, or uncomfortable. Try to get enough sleep if you know you'll have to do a lot of homework the next day, and don't try to work on an empty stomach! If you feel physically tense, do some yoga or light stretches before you begin to work. Doing breathing exercises can also help you feel more comfortable.
【2】
Your environment can make a big difference in how well you focus on your work. Before you begin doing your homework, find a place that is quiet, well-lit, and gives you enough space to spread out. You'll want a place where you can sit comfortably, but don't get too comfortable. Don't do homework in sofa or bed, which makes you want to fall asleep!
【3】
You'll get burnt out and lose focus quickly if you try to work too long without a break. Try working for an hour to an hour and a half and then taking a 15-minute break. This will give your tired brain a chance to rest. During your breaks, you can go for a walk, have a snack, drink some water, or even put your head down for a short sleep.
【4】
If you've reached the point where you can't stand to look at your homework any more, try changing to another task for a while. This way you can give your brain a break. For example, if you've been working on writing an article for an hour or two, take a break and then change to doing some math problems. Don't try to do more than one task at once, though.
【5】
It may be tempting to put off big, difficult tasks for last and do the easy ones first. However, letting the more important tasks wait will finally lead to fear, impatience, and missed deadlines. Make an ordered list of all your tasks. Try to finish ones that are due soon, or seem like they will be the most difficult to complete. Put ones that aren't due for a while or that you know you can finish quickly and easily at the bottom.
A.Do the most important or difficult tasks first.
B.Take care of your physical needs before working.
C.Treat yourself when you meet a homework goal.
D.Change between different tasks to help you stay sharp.
E.Find a quiet and comfortable work space.
F.Take enough breaks while you work for a long time.

24、Hawaii has always been a magic name to people who like traveling. People from all over the world dream of seeing the beautiful islands in the middle of the ocean. It’s always one of their dreams to watch the sun going down. The sun drops like a ball of bright fire into the sea, and it drops so quickly that you can even see it move.
About two thousand years ago, the first people went to Hawaii in a very small boat. They found the beautiful white sand beaches and the waving palm trees. But it was difficult for people to go to Hawaii at that time. And there were no big hotels like the ones today. Now people can get to Hawaii in different ways. More and more people go to Hawaii. So lots of nice big hotels have been built in recent years. However, the scenery(自然风景) in Hawaii hasn’t changed much. The white sand beaches and the waving palm trees are still there. People often have a peaceful time, taking a walk along the water in the morning. At night, they get together to hold parties, chatting and dancing. So if you’re thinking about relaxing yourself, Hawaii is surely the first place for you to choose.
【1】The sun in Hawaii drops too quickly for people to see it move.
【2】In Hawaii, a large number of nice big hotels have been built in recent years.
【3】The scenery in Hawaii is quite different from what it was many years ago.

25、Every year, as the summer days grow shorter, an amazing change happens in Canadian forests. As summer changes to auturnn, the trees turn colors, changing from summer greens to shades of red, orange, and yellow. It’s a truly wonderful sight! From a distance, the forest looks as if it’s on fire.
When I was a boy, my grandmother told me that a strange little man came at night with a paint brush to paint the leaves those wonderful colors. And I believed her for it was a wonderful way of explaining this change to a little boy. But as I grew older, my natural curiosity led me to do some research on my own. As always, science had the answer.
Trees need food, just like all lives. Leaves produce food for the tree. It’s just sugar, which is sometimes called glucose (葡萄糖). Leaves use sunlight to change water and CO2 into oxygen (氧气).The process by which leaves do this is known as photo-synthesis (光合作用). A chemical called chlorophyll (叶绿素) helps make this happen. Chlorophyll is the reason why leaves are green summer.
However, Canadian winters are long, cold and dark. There isn’t enough sunshine in winter for the leaves to make food. In auturnn, as the days shorten, the trees get a signal to slow down. It’s time to take a rest. Don’t worry, though. They have enough food prepared to last all winter.
When the leaves stop making food, they no longer need to make chlorophyll. Slowly, the chlorophyll disappears. Remember, this is the chemical that makes leaves green. As the chlorophyll goes away, so does the green color. We begin to see the other colors that are always there. We could not see them before because green is a strong color.
【1】The writer thought ________ changed the color of leaves in auturnn when he was a child.
A.the wind
B.a strange man
C.the sun
D.his grandmother
【2】Why do leaves become red, orange and yellow in auturnn?
A.Because the chlorophyll goes away in the leaves.
B.Because green color has a chemical change with sunlight.
C.Because the trees need more food in winter.
D.Because cold and dark environment can make new colors.
【3】Which of the following shows the structure of this passage?

B.The writer always believes his grandmother’s explanation.
C.When the leaves no longer need to make chlorophyll, the trees can change from summer greens to shades of red, orange, and yellow.
D.When the writer was a little boy, he did some research on his own to know the answer.
26、 Last Tuesday, after doing all the family shopping in town, I wanted to have a rest before catching the train. So I bought a newspaper and some chocolate and went into a station coffee shop with long tables to sit at. I put my heavy bag down on the floor, put the newspaper and chocolate on the table to keep a place, and went to get a cup of coffee.
When I came back with my coffee, there was someone sitting near to me. It was one of those strange-looking young men, with dark glasses, torn clothes, and long hair. But I wasn't surprised at such a young man. What surprised me most was that he had started to eat my chocolate!
I was rather uneasy about him, but I didn't want to get into trouble. I just looked down at the front page of the newspaper and took a bit of chocolate. The boy looked at me. Then he took a second piece of my chocolate. I could hardly believe it. Still I didn't say anything. When he took a third one, I felt more angry than uneasy. I thought, "Well, I shall have the last piece." And I got it.
The boy gave me a strange look and then stood up. As he left, he shouted out, "This woman is crazy!" Everyone looked at me. That was embarrassing(令人难堪) enough. But it was worse when I finished my coffee and ready to leave. It wasn't my chocolate I had eaten a moment before. Mine was just under my newspaper.

B. when the young man was leaving
C. after she finished reading her newspaper
D. right before she was about to leave the coffee shop
27、 What is your favorite color? Do you like yellow, orange or red? If you do, you must be an active person who enjoys life. Do you like blue? Then you’re probably quiet and shy.
Colors do influence our moods (情绪). A yellow room makes most people feel more cheerful and more relaxed than a dark green one, and a red dress brings warmth. On the other hand, black is depressing (使人压抑的). There was a black bridge over the Thames River, near London. The number of people who killed themselves on that bridge used to be larger than on any other bridge in the area until it was repainted green.
Light and bright colors make people not only happier but also more active. In the factory, the workers will work better, harder, and have fewer accidents when their machines are painted orange rather than black.

【1】An active person may like yellow, orange, or red.

【3】Most people feel more relaxed in a bark green room than in a yellow one.
