24、 As one of the world’s top universities, Oxford attracts students from around the world. Besides needing a perfect academic record. students have to go through a rigorous ( 严 格 的 ) interview process, sometimes across days.
If you’re preparing for studying overseas, here’s our advice for putting your best foot forward.
Questions
You might have heard about the strange questions you might face, such as why are ladybirds red? These questions are not as random (随意的) as they seem and are often related to your course or interests. In truth, there is no wrong way to answer these questions as they are designed to show how your mind approaches problems.
You can’t prepare for these, but you can practice explaining your thoughts aloud about different topics.
Preparation
Most of your interviews will be made up of what you wrote in your application. So make sure you review everything you’ve submitted (提交) as you will be asked about any writers or scientific theories you’ve mentioned. It’s not a good look if you can’t discuss your subject area or struggle to form your own opinions about it.
It’s also OK to say you’re unfamiliar with a question, but always attempt to answer it.
Interviews aren’t everything
Don’t worry about any mistakes you make. Your whole application is more than just a meeting, so take the time to de-stress and visit local sites.
It is also common for students to have an additional interview with another Oxford college if your interviewer is unsure about you. Take it as a second chance.
Overall, think and act as you usually would. Everyone there is gifted, but demonstrating (证明)) how your mind works and how you approach difficult things is how you will stand out.
【1】According to the passage, how can you prepare for the questions in interviews?
A.Search for information about ladybirds. B.Try to solve problems all by yourself.
C.Pay attention to your course or interests. D.Practice explaining your thoughts aloud.
【2】What does the underlined word “additional”mean in the passage?
A.Extra B.Special C.Usual D.Complete
【3】Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Interviews have something to do with what you wrote in your application.
B.You need to think and act much better than how you behave in your daily life.
C.You will be asked about a writer or scientific theories that you just heard about.
D.You should be careful not to make any mistakes when you are having interviews.
25、A phenomenon known as “kuakuaqun” or “praise groups” has taken Chinese social media by storm. The number of related topics on Weibo has reached more than 23 million. Users can join a chat group on WeChat or QQ, where they are showered with varieties of generous praise and encouragement. Praising others like this is also very popular among teens who prefer to call it “Rainbow Fart”.
Just imagine the scenes: You get an A in an exam and you want to get some praise. When you post it into a praise group, you are praised for not only your efforts but also being as clever as Albert Einstein. It’s 10 p.m. and you are the only person in the office. You receive a reply, “You are so hardworking! You’ll definitely get a promotion (升职)! Praise to you!” Even if you go to a toilet and forget taking some tissue, someone points out that “you’re caring about trees and the environment! Good for you!”
How would you feel?
The appearance of “praise groups” provides an opportunity for ordinary people who cannot get positive feedback easily in their daily life to get comfort from their hearts. It also shows the life and social pressure of today’s young people. Moreover, the popularity of these chat groups is a reflection of Chinese culture which values modesty and humility — people often hide their true emotion of seeking and giving praise. As long as people’s praise doesn’t sound obviously untruthful, you’re likely to welcome it. Being richly affirmed (肯定) for what you door who you are — just feel good. Sometimes, people enjoy praising others as well, just because here they can drop everything and have fun by giving lavish (夸张的) comments. However, some people are also willing to encourage and support others from their hearts.
Some netizens (网民) shared their ideas, “I take it as a way of adjusting the mood. The praise group helps in adding our confidence. Some sincere praises can even be inspiring. However, if you’re really in trouble, it is you who holds the final key.” Clearly, some dishonest praise comes at a cost. Chen Kan, an associate professor in Fudan University’s psychology department warned that “The biggest risk is to continue to stress on the ‘false self’, which makes it harder to see the ‘true self’.” In the end, people in the group will find that such unreasonable praise doesn’t help solve the real problem. Soon the whole group will be silent and dead.
Perhaps the praise groups are “a flash in the pan”, which might disappear sooner or later. No matter how you think of it, only when you can understand the pressure, criticism and praise correctly, will you face them bravely. Don’t lose yourself in others’ voices—that is what really matters.

A.we should see ourselves correctly and positively

26、 For 21 years, Georges Bwelle watched his ill father traveling to hospitals, which could not offer him all necessary help.
Jamef Bwelle suffered only a broken arm at first, but it finally developed into a hematoma. That would affect (影响) him for the rest of his life. Almost every Friday, his team jam into vans and travel to villages in need. In each trip they receive 500 people. Patients come on foot from 60 kilometers around the village for free treatment. The next morning, the team will do simple operations in a school house, town hall or home, and work into the early hours of Sunday morning.
