四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   Research suggests that at least 64% of people now spend up to four hours daily of spare time in front of a screen. Just as TV watching has been linked to higher chances of being fat and getting diseases, this extra sedentary time is bad news for our health.

    1.Choose outdoor activities over technology

When you’re at home, make it a rule that you can’t be online if the sun is shining. Instead, you have to go for a walk, ride a bike, swim or get some other kind of healthy physical activity for at   least an hour before you can pull out your phone or tablet, or take a seat at the computer. This rule should be fit for everyone in your family.

    2. Limit social media use

Social networks have changed computer and mobile use for people of all ages. Whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat, limit the amount of time you spend on social media. • 25、I grew up in a house where the TV was seldom turned on and with one wall in my bedroom entirely lined with bookshelves, most of my childhood was spent on books I could get hold of. In fact, I grew up thinking of reading as natural as breathing and books unbelievably powerful in shaping perspectives( 观点 ) by creating worlds we could step into, take part in and live in.

With this belief, I, at fourteen, decided to become a writer. Here too, reading became useful. Every writer starts off knowing that he has something to say, but being unable to find the right ways to say it. He has to find his own voice by reading widely and discovering which parts of the writers he agrees or disagrees with. He cannot write without loving to read, because only through reading other people’s writing can one discover what works, what doesn’t and, in the end, together with lots of practice, what voice he has.

Now I am in college, and have come to realize how important it is to read books. Reading reminds me that there is life beyond my own. It allows me to travel across the high seas and along the Silk Road, all from the comfort of my own armchair, to experience, though secondhand, exciting experiences that I wouldn’t necessarily be able to have in my lifetime.

1What can be inferred about the author as a child?

    A. He never watched TV.

    B. He found reading unbelievable.

    C. He considered reading part of his life.

    D. He read what he had to.

2The underlined word “voice” in the second paragraph most probably means “________”.

    A. a belief   B. a way of writing   C. a sound quality   D. a world to write about

3What effect does reading have on the author?

    A. It opens up a wider world for him.

    B. It helps him to realize his dream.

    C. It makes his college life more interesting.

    D. It increases his interest in worldwide travel.

4Which of the following can be the best title of this text?

    A. How do I read?   B. What do I read?   C. Why do I read?   D. When do I read?

Facts you don’t know about animals

People have already known a lot about animals. However, there are still some things about animals that may surprise you. Here are some facts about animals you probably didn’t know.

    Cows

Cows do have best friends and feel stressed (焦虑的) when they are separated (分开). Sometimes they even a1 humans when they are too nervous and angry. However, scientists also found that cows are very social animals and a cow always makes friends with other cows in the herd (兽群). When a cow is with its friend, its heart rate is reduced compared with when it is a2 or with a cow from another herd.

    Penguins

During breeding (繁殖) season, a male penguin will offer a pebble (卵石) to a female penguin as a g3. If she takes it, they will become partners. When the female penguin lays an egg, she and her husband may c4 it on their feet, because some penguins don’t build nests.

    Crocodiles

When crocodiles eat something, they always swallow () their prey. They don’t chew it like other animals. To help with digestion (消化), they swallow stones which grind up the food in their stomachs. But these stones can h5 be defecated (排泄掉), so they may stay in their stomachs all their lives.

    Elephants

Elephants use plants to get rid of p6 or other illness. Scientists once found a pregnant (怀孕的) elephant in Kenya who kept eating a kind of plant for a few days, while this kind of plant was not part of her regular d7.
