四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、As kids, we learn how to write, maybe play a musical instrument and draw. So why don’t we learn to code(编码) computer programs too? What coding has in common with writing, playing music and creating art is that it lets you bring your ideas to life. Coding is all about creativity and that’s why I love it.

    Creating with code

CoderDojo helps young people around the world to learn computer programming for free. When I went to my first CoderDojo class in Dublin City University in Ireland, at age nine, I didn’t know anything about coding or even what it was. But I remember making my very first web page that first day, and being surprised that I could create such a thing. It was a great feeling that I think every young person should experience!

By going to CoderDojo every week, I learned how to make websites, apps and games. One of my apps is called Auto-Journalist. It can help journalists(记者) and interviewees do interviews even if they are both really busy or live in different time zones. It is still in development, and I have showed it at an event called Coolest Projects Awards, where young people get to show the public what they have created with code. It’s so much fun to share one’s creations, and to see what everyone else has made too.

    Learning environment

For the past three years I have also been helping to teach other young people at CoderDojo DCU. In recent years I have also noticed many more girls attending CoderDojo DCU to try out coding. This has a lot to do with the CoderDojo girls’ classes—girls and young women take part in it with their friends, and it doesn’t feel like coding is a “boy thing”. It is really wonderful to see this, because we need more girls and women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). It’s a good way to learn more about technology.

    Start early

One of the main things I have learned in the last few years is that coding is not only for adults, coding is for young people, too. And when you are a child it is a great time to start coding, because your imagination is the limit for what you can create!

Want to learn more? Find out if there is a CoderDojo near you at www.coderdojo.com or set one up yourself! Also check out Code.org which has lots of fun drag-and-drop coding games.

【1】 In the writer’s first coding class, she ▁▁.

【2】 Why do more girls begin to learn coding?

    A. There are coding classes for girls.

    B. Girls want to learn a “boy thing”.

    C. There are more girls in STEM.

    D. Girls can meet cool boys there.

【3】What does the writer think of coding?

    A. It is better than playing music.

    B. It limits children’s imagination.

    C. It stops people from learning fast.

D.It helps children with their creativity.

【4】What is probably the best title for this passage?

    A. Start Coding as Early as Possible

    B. Come for Fun in CoderDojo Class

    C. Kids Should Have Chances to Learn to Code

    D. STEM Is Calling for More Girls and Women

  • 25、When you are about to do something brave, a cheerful wish of “Good luck!” from a friend can be helpful. But if you think you need lots of luck, what else might you do?

In the UK and US there are some strange traditions for bringing yourself a little more good luck. Some are hundreds of years old and some are much newer.

Have you heard the saying “When you wish upon a star”? If you are looking up at the sky on a clear night and you see a sudden flash of light, it is probably a shooting star! Seeing one doesn’t happen very often. The saying goes that if you see one you have been very lucky, and so ifyou make a wish, it will come true.

Maybe you have heard of the lucky rabbit’s foot. Some people believe that rabbits are lucky animals, so they carry a part of the rabbit, its foot, for good luck. There are all kinds of strange, unclear rules about which of the rabbit’s feet is the luckiest. It is said that this good luck tradition is the oldest one of all. However, as the funny saying goes, “Depend on the rabbit’s foot if you will, but remember it didn’t work for the rabbit!”

People in Britain love trees. If it is autumn and leaves are falling from the trees, some people try to catch the leaves as they fall because they think each leaf they catch will bringthema lucky month in the following year—they will need to catch 12 falling leaves to have a whole of good luck.

1Which thing is mentioned in the oldest good luck tradition?

    A. A falling leaf

    B. A rabbit’s foot

    C. A shooting star

    D. A cheerful wish from friends

2According to Paragraph 3, we know that ______.

    B. shooting stars can often be seen

    C. people believe that it’s unlucky to see a shooting star.

    D. your wish may come true if you see a shooting star.

3British people try to catch 12 falling leaves because ______.

    A. the leaves fall in autumn.

    B. there are so many leaves to catch.

    C. they want to have a whole year of good luck.

    D. the leaves can bring them a lucky month.

4In Paragraph 5, the underlined word “them” refers to(指)______.

    A. leaves   B. people   C. trees   D. years

5The passage is mainly about ______.

    A. how to wish upon a star

    B. things that bring good luck

    C. British people love leaves

    D. which of the rabbit’s feet is the luckiest

  • 27、   Many people love travelling to different countries, but if you plan to go abroad, you should know how to behave in different situations around the world.

Most travelers enjoy meeting new people, but sometimes you can be rude without saying anything. In Russia, you should never shake hands in a doorway, and if you’re travelling in Thailand, never touch people’s heads or point your feet at people. When the Japanese meet new people, they like giving business cards-but you should read the card carefully, not just put it in your pocket.

In most countries in Europe, people expect a lot of eye contact when you talk to them, but in many Asian countries, a lot of eye contact seems unfriendly. And in South America, people usually stand quite close to each other when they talk, but in countries like the USA, you need to give people more personal space. Also, it’s rude to interrupt Japanese people while they are talking to you. You must wait until they finish before you start speaking.

In restaurants in China, you can leave a bit of food on your plate, it’s OK to start smoking before other people finish eating, which you mustn’t do in the UK. When in India, remember to eat with your right hand. Also avoid leaving empty bottles on the dinner table in Russia—that’s bad luck.

When you’re travelling in Asia, if someone invites you to his or her home, don’t forget to take off your shoes when you arrive. And if you visit an Arab family’s home, don’t admire anything valuable because your host will feel he should give it to you as a present.

With so much to think about, it’s not surprising that many people prefer going on holiday in their own countries—or you might just decide to stay at home.

1What does the underlined word “interrupt” mean in Chinese?

    A.跟随 B.附和 C.讨论 D.打断

    Eating out In the home

    Body language Face-to-face communication

    A.②③④① B.④①②③ C.③④①② D.①②③④

3What does the writer want to tell us?

A.Practice makes perfect. B.Where there is a will, there is a way.

C.Two heads are better than one. D.When in Rome, do as the Romans do.

4What is the best title for the passage?
