二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、Over the weekend, social media was excited about a heart-stopping gymnastic routine and we have UCLA athlete Katelyn Ohashi to thank. The routine itself is only ninety seconds long, but the 21-year-old athlete jumped, flipped, turned, and showed off her incredible talent across the floor to a combination of R&B and soul music. Ohashi earned a well-deserved perfect 10 from the judges and her performance eventually led the UCLA to victory at the end of the competition.

But the best part? This isn’t the first time she’s gone viral — it’s the second time in a year she’s achieved eye-catching fame, and it’s for good reason. At the 2018 Pac 12 Championships, Ohashi performed an awesome floor routine set to a combination of Michael Jackson’s hits.

Ohashi exudes (流露) joy in her performances, and she’s not afraid to smile widely when she knows she’s done well. It’s acceptable, because it’s clear she’s having fun, a rare sight in the field of professional sports. Born in Seattle, Ohashi did four years on the USA Gymnastic’s junior national team, and won the 2013 American Cup. But behind the scenes, things weren’t so great.

Ohashi was under intense pressure competing at the elite (精英) level. Fans told her she wasn’t good enough, and she was under pressure to be thin. Ultimately, she decided to walk away from elite gymnastics to become a college athlete. She underwent surgery for a broken back and two torn shoulders in 2014. These injuries kept her away from the sport until 2015 when she joined the UCLA Bruins gymnastics team for the 2015–16 season.

“There was a time when I was on top of the world, an Olympic hopeful. I was unbeatable until I wasn’t,” Ohashi said. “It hurt. But it also took me finding Ms. Val and the UCLA and having a different goal and path to follow, to finally find joy and love within the sport again, which I haven’t been able to feel in a long time.”

【1】Which is closest in meaning to the phrase “gone viral” underlined in paragraph 2?

    A.Become popular.

    B.Appear suddenly.

    C.Change surprisingly.

    D.Succeed unexpectedly.

【2】What do we know about Katelyn Ohashi?

    A.She was little-known until recently.

B.Her gymnastic skills improved in the UCLA.

C.She won her first victory in the UCLA.

D.Her gymnastic career wasn’t always full of joy.

【3】How does Ohashi sound in the end?

    A.Regretful.

    B.Appreciative.

    C.Humorous.

    D.Confused.

【4】What is the most suitable title for the text?

    A.Regain self-confidence

    B.Battle against ill remarks

    C.Go beyond physical limits

    D.Rediscover joy of gymnastics

  • 27、A modern masterpiece from one of Italy’s most acclaimed authors, My Brilliant Friend is a rich, intense, and generous-hearted story about two friends, Elena and Lila. Elena Ferrante’s unique style lends itself perfectly to a detailed portrait of these two women that is also the story of a nation and a touching thinking on the nature of friendship. The story begins in the 1950s, in a poor but exciting neighborhood on the outskirts of Naples. Growing up on these tough streets the two girls learn to rely on each other ahead of anyone or anything else. As they grow, as their paths repeatedly split apart and meet again, Elena and Lila remain best friends whose respective destinies are reflected in the other. They are likewise the mirror of a nation undergoing momentous change.

Ferrante is the author of three previous works of critically acclaimed fiction: The Days of Abandonment, Troubling Love, and The Lost Daughter. With this novel, the first in a quartet, she proves herself to be one of Italy’s great storytellers. She has given her readers a masterfully plotted page-turner, abundant and generous in its narrative details and characterizations, that is also a stylish work of literary fiction destined to delight her many fans and win new readers to her fiction.

As “Ferrante Fever” swept the English-speaking literary world, you might have mistaken it for a phenomenon exclusive to women readers. Elena Ferrante’s four Neapolitan Novels, translated from the Italian, arrived on our shores in covers of light pinks and blues, with introduction that promised a fascinating narration of female friendship, ideally marketed for moms and their daughters alike. So well-received was this focus on the sisterhood of the books-perhaps because we often limit women to writing about “women’s issues” — that the series’ historical sweep, its intense criticism of capitalism and its cruel violence, did not always get their due.

This is likely to change as the Ferrante craze reaches its natural peak: an acclaimed HBO series that doesn’t steer away from her socialist themes. No doubt quite a few men are on the bandwagon already. While they are indeed thrilled by the societal scope of Ferrante’s narrative, they are also learning something about the vitality of feminine closeness and identity.

【1】In My Brilliant Friend, Elena and Lila ________.

    A.represent the country’s spirit

    B.are interdependent on each other

    C.stay together throughout their life

    D.are coming from different background

【2】The writing focus on girls’ relationship may overshadow the description of ________.

    A.motherhood

    B.capitalistic cruelty

    C.male friendship

    D.domestic violence

【3】What is likely to change as the Ferrante craze intensifies?

A.That the book switches to socialist theme.

B.That the readership is mainly limited to women.

C.People’s view towards girls’ closeness and identity.

D.That the bandwagons are increasingly popular among boys.

【4】What can be inferred from this article?

A.The book comes with a book turning device to help reading easily.

B.HBO changed the book’s theme in the adaptation of the screenplay.

C.Elena Ferrante’s quartet gain wide appeal both in women and in men.

D.The character Elena in the book is a self-portrait of the author Elena Ferrante.

  • 28、A team of researchers from Oxford University has demonstrated a self-driving car that is different from such cars being tested by Audi, Ford, etc. It’ s much cheaper because it’s based on off-the-shelf(现成的) technology and controlled by an ordinary iPad. Instead of using GPS to understand the location, the car learns routes when a person is driving, and then asks after it’s got it down, if the driver would like the computer to take over.

As time passes, it’s becoming very clear that people believe computers would be better drivers than humans. This has been proven by extensive research that indicates that computers are able to react more quickly to driving conditions, make smarter decisions, don’t take risks, and don’t make mistakes in concentration. They don’t drink either, of course, which means accidents due to drunk driving could be reduced dramatically if the computer could take over when someone needs to get home from the bar. And the team says drivers don’t need their cars to know everything about every road, condition or possible danger. Instead, they just need to know how to get from one point to another, and to do a good job of it when asked.

To that end, the researchers have added cameras, lasers, a central computer to process information and a regular iPad. In practice, the car would learn how to get to and from places that the driver frequents, such as their work place, the local pub or grocery store. Once it has it down, the computer asks the driver if they’ d like a rest. If so, they simply tap the iPad, and the car takes over.

It’ s very simple and doesn’t require nearly the same number of devices as those being tested by other car companies. The researchers say people might be able to get the total price of the system below a hundred dollars. And of course, the iPad can be lifted out and carried away for other purposes when not being used as a driver assistant.

【1】The car tested by Oxford University are different from others in that they ________.

    A. use available low-cost technology

    B. depend on GPS to understand the location

    C. can choose the places for their owners to visit

    D. can develop a good relationship with their owners

【2】Computers are believed to be better drivers than humans mainly because they ________.

    A. are more likely to take risks

    B. are more familiar with every road

    C. become more skilful at avoiding dangers

    D. can respond to new situations more quickly

【3】We can infer from the passage that the iPad __________.

    A. cannot be removed from cars when it’s not used

    B. has replaced cameras, lasers and a central computer

    C. needs to be specially designed for a self-driving car

    D. acts as a tool for drivers to control their self-driving cars

【4】What best describes the author’s tone in this passage?

    A. Objective. B. Worried.

    C. Serious    D. Subjective.

  • 29、   Many primary school students in Jiangsu Province suffered from such symptoms as nosebleeds, dizziness and rashes after attending schools that recently installed plastic running tracks on their playgrounds. Parents of primary school students in several cities reported similar symptoms in their children after school began in September, 2015.

The provincial educational department said on Wednesday that schools with these plastic tracks must have professionals carry out tests. It sent a team of experts to look into the whole work of the building of the tracks. Any illegal behavior will be punished without mercy.

Chen Yun, a teacher in Wuxi, said no organization could provide the school with an official test report for its track. “The local disease control center said they can examine and analyze the air in an enclosed space, such as classrooms and washrooms. But they cannot test in open spaces,” Chen said. Local environmental protection centers have also refused to test the air around the plastic running tracks.

According to the Jiangsu Environmental Protection Bureau, China has no standards for the running track industry, which will make the air measurements useless as there are no data in determining whether the air is polluted. Besides, materials used to build the tracks are not tested when they are produced at factories because of, also, NO industry standards! So what we have to do now is, of course, that these measures should be made in no time.

Ye Ping, director of Taizhou Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute, said harmful things in plastic running tracks may lead to diseases. “The plastic tracks in China are mainly made up of polyurethane, a kind of nontoxic material,” said Ye. “However, suppliers may add toxic adhesives. They give a bad smell and may cause dizziness and rashes. Some suppliers may also add a kind of material that helps the plastic to solidify, but the lead contained in it will raise lead levels above normal in children’s blood after longtime exposure.”

Ye added that the country has not put forward rules about the examination of volatile organic compounds given off by tracks.

The Jiangsu educational department has suggested that middle schools in Nanjing grow natural grass on their playgrounds.

    1According to Chen Yun, ______.

A.parents of primary school students firstly reported problems about their children.

B.no official reports about the tracks could be got at the moment.

C.local environmental protection centers worked hard to find out the causes.

D.there are no standards for the running track industry at present.

2Who believes it is the harmful things in the tracks that may cause the problems?

    A.Ye Ping B.experts C.Chen Yun D.parents

3Which of the following statements can be called a Fact instead of an Opinion?

A.Without standards for the running track industry, the air measurements might be useless.

B.The schools with these plastic tracks must have professionals carry out tests.

C.Many primary school students suffered from nosebleeds after attending schools.

D.Middle schools in Nanjing should grow natural grass on their playgrounds.

4Based on the analysis, who deserves to be punished for the sick students?

    A.The primary schools B.Some suppliers

C.The educational department D.The disease control center

5What work does the writer think should be done at once according to the passage?

A.Experts should be sent to test the materials of the tracks.

B.Students should be examined to find the reasons for their illnesses.

C.The plastic running tracks should be removed to grow natural grass instead.

D.The measures for the running track industry should be worked out.
