27、It seems that people are gradually losing their smartness as smartphones become increasingly important assistants in their lives. As we rely too much on technology instead of our brains, many people have lost three basic abilities.
The first skill many people have lost is remembering phone numbers. Because phone numbers are stored in smartphone contacts, there's now no need to dial a number or look at it again. This is fine until you need to call someone for help, only to find your phone is not around.
And some people may also have lost their sense of direction because navigation apps can guide people anywhere they want. People get so dependent on them that when they can't use their smartphones, they get lost and anxious.
But the worst lost skills may be social ones, meaning that some people are becoming socially inept(无能的)People often bury themselves in their smartphones. As we're too absent-minded by what's happening in the virtual(虚拟的)world, some of us have lost conversational skills and sometimes can't even distinguish whether a person is happy or not.
Last August, researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles, studied 51 students aged 11 and 12 who had over five hours' screen time every day. Their task was to tell the emotions of 48 pictures of faces that were happy, sad, angry or scared.
The children made an average of 14.02 mistakes at the beginning. But after a five-day camp without electronic products, they made only 9.41 mistakes on average.
Luckily, people still have a chance to get these abilities back. You should try to keep your parents' numbers in mind for emergencies. You should also pay more attention to street signs and stores , which will help you to draw a mind map and stop you from getting lost. And the easiest solution to social skill loss is to take a break from electronic products.
【1】 The underlined sentence in the second paragraph implies that__________.

28、Daily life has its satisfactions. The perfect reply to a friend’s text message. The first after-work drink. The sound of another government U-turn. But do any really compare to the joy of going to sleep? That moment when all the mess disappears into the embrace of a mattress(床垫)?
Somehow we have pushed this pleasure to the back of the queue. A third of American adults report sleeping less than the recommended seven hours. Many of us feel a lack of rest.
Stressing ourselves out about a lack of sleep can make the problem worse. In his book Overcoming Insomnia and Sleep Problems, Oxford professor Colin Espie writes about “orthosomnia(完美睡眠症)”, where people are so focused with sleeping well that they become too anxious to do so. The marketing of sleeping aids adds to this.
Espie says we each have a sleep pattern that, like a shoe size, we figure out through trial and error. The research on bedtimes between 10pm and 11pm will cheer those who leave parties early and give up late-night football highlights, but it establishes no causal link. Genetically, some humans are larks(百灵鸟) and some are owls(猫头鹰); the larks may just have better cardiovascular(心血管) health. For an owl to try to fight their natural schedule, and sleep earlier, wouldn’t necessarily help.
Once we weren’t urged to sleep until we were dead. Now we are told to sleep or we’ll be dead. Taking our biology seriously suggests that Netflix should not try to compete with sleep, and the city that never sleeps is not as cool as it sounds. But nowadays sleep is becoming something that people try to excel at. About that I’m unconvinced. A good night’s sleep is a pleasure. As far as possible, it should also remain a simple one.
【1】What can satisfy us most in our daily life according to the passage?
A.The perfect reply to a friend’s text message.
B.The first after-work drink.
C.The sound of another government U-turn
D.The joy of going to sleep.
【2】What may lead to people suffering from the lack of sleep according to Colin Espie?
A.They often leave parties early.
B.They seldom stay up late for the football highlights.
C.They are too concerned about having a good sleep.
D.They have a habit to follow their natural schedule.
【3】How does Colin Espie explain a sleep pattern?
A.By statistics
B.By example
C.By comparison
D.By process
【4】What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A.It is better to sleep like an owl.
B.Netflix may affect our sleep.
C.We expect the city to be sleepless nowadays.
D.The author tries to be good at sleep.
29、Airplane accidents always attract attention because of the damage and loss of life they cause. Sometimes, however, an air crash is especially sad and remembered for many years afterwards.
On 6 February 1958, the Manchester United football team had played a match in Yugoslavia and were flying back to England. The plane stopped in Munich, Germany to get more fuel. There was a snowstorm. The pilot tried to take off twice without success. Finally, the airplane took off, but less than one minute later, it crashed into a fence and burst into flames. Twenty-three people of the forty-three passengers on the plane died, including eight football players.
What made this accident especially sad was that Manchester United was just beginning to become the great football team. With Matt Busby as their manager, the team was developing an exciting style of play and was enjoying a successful season. The average age of the players was just 22. Three of the players who died left young wives and children, and two others were planning to get married. These players’ lives were cut short, and we will never know how great they could have been.
Several months after the crash, someone wrote a song ‘Flowers of Manchester’ in honour of those who lost their lives. In 1960, a memorial was placed on the wall of Old Trafford, Manchester United’s stadium. On the memorial are the names of the players who died and a picture of a football field. Every year, on the date of the accident, hundreds of fans gather together at the memorial to remember the lost team members. In 2000, a new tradition started when Manchester United fan Gez Mason performed ‘Flowers of Manchester’ before a match at Old Trafford. That year, he sang by himself, but the next year, and every year since then, on the day of a match closest to the anniversary, hundreds of fans gather together to sing this song.
【1】Why did the plane stop in Munich?
A.One of the passengers was ill.
B.The plane was short of fuel.
C.It was getting darker and darker.
D.Something was wrong with the plane.
【2】What made the accident especially sad?

C.Manchester United’s bright future.
D.The severe snowstorm.
【3】Which of the following statements is true?
A.Air crashes are remembered forever.
B.More than half people on the plane died.
C.The names of the dead are on the memorial.
D.The football team is certain to become a great one.
【4】What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.A memorial was placed inside the stadium.
B.The football team was well loved and honored.
C.Someone wrote a song for the lost football players.
D.The football team performed a song before a match.
