27、African countries have retrieved some historic heritage (遗产), which directly reflects the important development of human society, from European countries. Recently, Germany signed a deal for the return of hundreds of valuable artworks from the Kingdom of Dahomey in the 19th century, in what is today Benin.
But many artifacts (手工艺品) are still unluckily missing and some are on their way back. One such object is an eight-legged seat from the old kingdom in Uganda. The important artifact now sits at a museum thousands of kilometers away in Britain. The wooden seat is housed at the University of Oxford. It is one of at least 279 objects there taken from the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom.
Apollo John Rwamparo is a deputy prime minister of Uganda. He really values the country’s cultural heritage. He requested the British to return the artifacts. Ugandan officials are preparing to meet with the University of Cambridge in Britain about the return of such historical artifacts. The school has an unknown number of artifacts from Africa. Through many efforts, an artifact was returned to its home.
The British Museum holds a large collection of artifacts from Africa. Rose Mwanja said Uganda’s commission had been trying hard on it and believed it could have some good effects. She is Uganda’s commissioner for museums. She added she could start with those that are more willing to cooperate.
Many of the artifacts from Africa cannot even be found. That led to an organization started by late Congolese art collector Sindika Dokolo. The organization offers to buy African art from collections in foreign countries. By 2020, when Dokolo died, his group had successfully recovered 15 items. However, for African governments, the recovery of artifacts remains a struggle and will take much time.

28、Ecotourism(生态旅游): A Different Way to Travel
Are you attracted to obscure(偏远的)places? Do you prefer to vacation away from other tourists? Are you careful to take only memories and to leave only footprints? If you answered yes to more than one of these questions, you just might be an ecotourist.
Ecotourists are people who want to experience the unspoiled natural world and leave it that way when they return home. This trend started in the 1990s and ecotourism is now growing three times faster than the tourism industry at large. The Ecuador’s remote Amazon Basin(盆地) is contributing to that expansion, and it gives a snapshot of what ecotourism looks like.
At the Ecolodge, a small group of cabins(小屋) sits Kapawi Ecolodge in the middle of the Achuar people’s reserve(保护区) and is only reached by air. From here, visitors can explore parts of the Amazon rainforest seen by few outsiders. As they do local Achuar guides explain how the forest is like their supermarket, where they find food, clothing, medicine and tools. As a result, tourists learn to appreciate the local culture as well as the natural environment.
The owners of Kapawi pay monthly rent to the Achuar people, but they also train the community to run and manage the lodge. They have agreed on a plan to turn the operation over to the Achuar completely by 2011.The owners are working to make ecotourism benefit and empower the local people.
You probably won’t start your own ecolodge, but you can be an ecotourist if you follow these guidelines: Protect the environment; Support local businesses; Respect the local customs and traditions.
The world is full of fascinating places to visit. As an ecotourist, you can enjoy them yourself and make sure that they remain beautiful for future generations as well.

29、I still will never forget a girl student sitting at the back of the classroom. Having failed the college entrance exams and changed schools two times, she couldn't smile naturally. Every day she would sit at the desk, staring into textbooks and exercises, quiet and heavy-hearted. Her loneliness almost stopped me from teaching. Of course, she had no friends in this class in Helman Restudy School. Every time I stepped into the classroom, I welcomed everyone. Of course, when I said something to her casually(漫不经心地), she unwillingly answered with a shy smile.
Life is harder for senior students. Hardly does a day go by without endless exercises or tests. Every time when the scores came out, her score wouldn't be the first or second but last. Dark clouds always flashed in her eyes. When I invited her to the teacher's office, we never talked about studies or scores, but I would make some jokes casually instead. She never replied. Her gaze wandered over the office, staring out of the window.
Slowly she felt a bit relieved(宽慰).
One day the exam results came out and she did pass! When I quietly walked into the classroom, she was still sitting at the back of the classroom. Since then she had never been heard from again.
One holiday afternoon two years later, I was shopping in a supermarket. When I came to the checkout, an excited voice came into my ear, "Hello, Mr. Deng. "I looked up and there she stood, working part-time during her college holidays. From her happy face, I could see she was busy and happy. "Mr Deng, you helped me get through my darkest time. I know what you did every day at that time. Thank you. "
Gone were her sad expressions and a sunshine face threw light on every customer. At that moment, I realized how important it is to give a bit of care to those in need every day. You may never know how much each gesture or word may mean to someone else.
