四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、The word “day ”has two meanings. When we talk about the number of days in a year, we are using “day ” to mean 24 hours. But when we talk about day and night, we are using “day” to mean the time between sunrise and sunset. Since the earth looks like a ball, the sun can shine on only half of it at a time. Always one half of the earth is having day and the other half night. A place is moved from day into night and from night into day over and over by the spinning(旋转) of the earth. At the equator(赤道) day and night are sometimes the same length(长度). They are each twelve hours long. The sun rises at 6 o’clock in the morning and sets at 6 o’clock in the evening. For six months the North Pole(北极) is tilted(倾斜) toward the sun. In those months the Northern Hemisphere(半球) gets more hours of sunlight than the Southern Hemisphere(半球). Days are longer than nights. South of the equator nights are longer than days. For the other six months the North Pole is tilted away from the sun. Then the Southern Hemisphere gets more sunlight. Days are longer than nights. North of the equator nights are longer than days. Winter is the season of long nights. Summer is the season of long days.

【1】When the Western Hemisphere is having day, the Eastern Hemisphere is having .

    A.both day and night

    B.day

    C.neither(既不)

    D.night

【2】A place is moved from day into night and from night into day over and over by of the earth.

    A.the pushing

    B.the pulling

    C.the spinning

    D.the passing

【3】At the equator day is as long as night .

    A.sometimes

    B.never

    C.usually

    D.always

【4】When the North Pole is tilted toward the sun, the Northern Hemisphere gets sunlight.

    A.less

    B.more

    C.all

    D.no

  • 25、My kids and I were heading into the supermarket over the weekend. On the way, we saw a man holding a piece of paper that said, “Lost my job. Family to feed.”

At this store, a scene like this is not normal. My 10-year-old son noticed him and made a comment(评论) on how bad it must be to have to stand outside in the cold wind.

In the store, I asked each of my kids to pick something they thought our “friend” there would like. They got apples, a sandwich and a bottle of juice. Then my 17-year-old son suggested giving him a gift card. I thought about it. We didn’t have much money ourselves, but … well, sometimes giving from our need instead of our abundance(充裕) is just what we need to do! All the kids declared(宣称) something they could do away with for the week.

When we handed him the bag of food, he lit up and thanked us with wet eyes. When I handed him the gift card, saying he could use it for whatever his family might need, his eyes were filled with tears.

This has been a wonderful experience for our family. For days the kids have been looking for others we can help! Things would have played out so differently if I had simply said, “No, we really don’t have money to give more.” Stepping out not only helped a brother in need, it also gave my kids the sweet taste of helping others. It’ll go a long way with them.

1What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 mean?

    A. giving him some food   B. giving from our need

    C. giving him a postcard   D. giving from our abundance

2Which is the right order of what happened in the story?

    a. The man was thankful with tears.

    b. Each child picked some food for the man in the store.

    c. A poor man lost his job and asked people for help.

    d. All kids did away with something and gave him a gift card.

    e. They saw the poor man outside the supermarket and took pity on him.

    A. c-e-d-b-a   B. c-e-b-d-a   C. e-c-d-b-a   D. e-c-b-d-a

3What can we infer(推测) from the last paragraph?

    A. They will try their best to help more people in the future.

    B. They won’t help more people because they can't afford to do so.

    C. They had helped many people before offering this poor man help.

    D. If mother had said NO, the kids would have helped in a different way.

  • 27、   It is believed that Huck Finn is based on a childhood friend of Mark Twain's. In fact, Twain was not alone in basing a fictional character on a real-life person.

    Severus Snape/John Nettleship

Severus Snape is a skillful teacher teaching magic in Harry Potter. The writer, J. K. Rowling, once said that the character was based on a teacher of hers.

The teacher turned out to be John Nettleship, who taught Rowling chemistry. At first, Nettleship felt surprised. "I know I am a strict teacher," he said. "But I don't think I am as bad as Snape!" On second thoughts, however, he said that he was so ill-tempered that most of his students avoided making him mad. Also, he used to wear long hair and have an untidy lab. That sounds familiar to Harry Potter fans.

    Alice/Alice Liddell

Famously, Lewis Carroll's Alice in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is based on Alice Liddell.

Carroll was close to the Liddell family. One day, ten-year-old Alice asked Carroll to tell her a new story. Carroll began to create his famous tale of Alice and what happened after she fell through the rabbit hole. The little girl liked the story so much that she asked him to write it down. And the rest is history.

    Dill/Truman Capote

In To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee based Dill on her childhood friend, Truman Capote. Capote once said, "Lee was my best friend. Have you ever read To Kill a Mockingbird? I'm a character in that story! The story takes place just in the town where we lived!"

五、短文填空 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 28、   Ladies and gentlemen, thank you very much for coming to this concert. I hope you e1 the concert. As you may know, all the performers have donated their time to help us.

The purpose of this concert is  to  r2 money  for  children  in Africa.  Every day hundreds of children in Africa die because they have diseases or don’t have enough food to eat.

There are two main r3 . First, there is no work for the children’s parents, so they have no money to buy food or medicine. Second, the governments in many African countries do not have the money to take c4 of the poor.

Most African countries are poor. The land is not g5for growing food and the weather is also bad for farming. T6 are many organizations trying to help these poor people. The organization we are trying to help, the Feed Africa Fund, spends m7 of dollars every year on food for poor people in Africa. This money comes from people l8 you—kind, generous people who do not want to see children die of hunger.

All the money you give this evening will go to the Feed Africa Fund. Just one dollar can buy enough rice or corn to f9 a family of four for three days.

How much do you spend on food every day? Ten dollars? Twenty dollarsI am sure you can spend a little less on your o10 food so that you have a few dollars for the Feed Africa Fund.

Ladies and gentlemen, we will now take up a collection. Please be generous.
