四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   A lot of people have asked me lately how I manage so many WeChat groups. I'll share a few of the secrets for it. Presently, I have more than 6, 200 people who subscribe(订阅)to my public account and at least 10, 000 in various groups. Some of them are my groups. Others are English language learning groups where I've been invited to share my free English lessons.

First, managing groups is really about managing people. The people who are connected with me are highly targeted for my lessons. They either joined one of my groups or they are in my Friends List. People have chosen to connect with me because they want to improve their English.

Second, I’m very slow at adding someone to a group. I let them connect to my public account (公众号)first. If people promote some kind of business, product or service, I don't want them in my groups. They’ll only cause me trouble. I delete(删除)them from my Friends' Circle quickly and make them disappear.

Third, if I don't want someone advertising in my group, I need to set rules for my group. I think putting ads in groups is the least effective way of promoting or advertising. I have two choices when someone breaks my rules. I can warm them. If they apologize, I will give them a second chance. If they don', kick them out of my group. It isn’t worth time to argue with them.

    1What does the writer do?

A.An English teacher B.A leader of school

C.An English learner D.A boss of company

2The writer gives __________ tips about how to manage the WeChat.

    A.2 B.3 C.4 D.5

3What's the meaning of the underlined word "promote"?

    A.生产 B.推销 C.加强 D.购买

4Which of the following is NOT true?

A.Managing groups is really about managing people

B.Some people connect with the writer to improve English.

C.The writer shares a few ways of managing WeChat groups.

D.No one has ever broken the writer's rules about WeChat groups.

What is the best-selling book in the world? Is it the Harry Potter series or Secret Garden? According to the Guinness World Records, the Xinhua Dictionary, published by the Commercial Press in China, is the world’s most popular dictionary and the best-selling book.

In 1950, Chinese language experts(专家) and scholars, Wei Jiangong and Ye Shengtao, started to edit(编辑) the Xinhua Dictionary. There was a lot of discussion, research and paper work. Some hand scripts (稿件) were checked again and again like compositions, People’s Daily reported. Many people’s hard work and interesting stories went into making the dictionary.

In 1953, the first Xinhua Dictionary was published. Today, 567 million copies of the dictionary have been sold worldwide.

However, revisions (修订) to the dictionary continue to be made. According to Yu Guilin from Commercial Press, editors(编辑) usually summarize (总结) the meaning of words again while revising. If the example sentences are out of date, editors need to have experiences and make new examples. “To give a correct explanation of the word ‘焗油 (deep condition)’ , one editor went to a barber shop (理发店) to experience it for himself,” Yu told the Beijing Times. So far, the Xinhua Dictionary has been revised 11 times.

To keep up with the times, some popular and widely used internet words are also added to the dictionary. For example, in the 11th edition, the phrases “晒工资 (show off salary)” and “晒照片 (show off pictures)” were included.

All these efforts create the “National Dictionary” of China. The Xinhua Dictionary is not only a useful tool for generations of Chinese people. It also helps foreigners who are learning the Chinese language and culture.

1According to Guinness World Records, the best-selling book is _____.

    A. the Xinhua Dictionary

    B. the Harry Potter series

    C. Secret Garden

    D. Guinness Book of World Records

    B. The editors had a lot of discussions, did research and paper work.

    C. The editors checked the hand scripts again and again.

    D. The first Xinhua Dictionary was published in 1950.

4While revising the dictionary, the editors _____.

As COVID-19 spreads throughout China and the rest of the world, an important question has yet to be answered: where did the virus come from? The latest study indicated that pangolins(穿山甲)may be an intermediate host of virus, according to Xinhua. However, bats are supposed to be the original cause the most probably.

“We don’t know the source yet, but there’s pretty strong evidence that this is a bat origin COVID-19,” said Peter Dazsak, president of EcoHealth Alliance, according to The New York Times. When you look at the genetic sequence(基因序列)of the virus, and you match it up with COVID-19, the closest ones are from bats.

So why are bats the source of so many deadly kinds of viruses and why don’t they suffer from any illnesses? Bats are mammals(哺乳动物)that have a long life and live with millions of other bats in caves, where they can potentially spread the virus far and wide. As the only flying mammal, their body temperature is high, similar to a fever. It’s this fact that may help bats’ unique immune system in protecting them from the ill effects of viruses.

It’s strange to be found that the virus outbreak was traced to the Huanan Seafood Market in Wuhan, a place where no bats were sold. How could this be? “It seems likely that another animal host is acting as an intermediate host between bats and humans,” said Wu Guizhen, of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, according to Live Science.

But are bats truly to blame for the virus or should we be blaming ourselves? It’s the mistake of humans for getting closer to virus-carrying bats. Bats are an important animal in our ecosystem when it comes to pollinating (授粉) many fruits such as bananas and apples. We need to allow them to continue pollination and keep them away from our markets and mouths.

1From the passage, ______ may be an intermediate host between bats and humans.

    A.snakes B.masked civets(果子狸) C.pangolins D.sea mammals

2Why do scientists consider the virus a bat origin COVID-19?

A.Because the genetic sequence are the closest to bats.

B.Because bats don’t suffer from the illness.

C.Because bats spread the virus far and wide.

D.Because bats were sold in Huanan Seafood Market.

3It’s ______ that protects bats from the ill effects of viruses.

    A.the flying skill B.the echo-location

C.high body temperature D.the genetic sequence

4How much do we know about bats?

What kind of animals are they?   Why don’t they suffer from the ill effects of viruses?

How long do they live?   Where do they live?

    A.①②③ B.①②④ C.①③④ D.②③④

5We may infer from the passage that   .

A.We should kill all the bats to keep healthy.

B.Humans can continue to sell and eat bats after the illness.

C.Bats can help keep the ecosystem balanced.

D.COVID-19 can only be found in bats.

  • 27、“Life is speeding up. Everyone is getting unwell.”

This may sound like something someone would say today. But in fact, an unknown person who lived in Rome in AD(公元)53 wrote it

We all love new inventions. They are exciting, amazing and can even change our lives.

But have all these developments really improved the quality of our lives?

Picture this, You’re rushing to finish your homework on the computer. Your mobile phone rings, a QQ message from your friend appears on the screen, the noise from the television is getting louder and louder. Suddenly the computer goes blank and you lose all your work. Now you have to stay up all night to get it done. How happy do you feel?

Inventions have speeded up our lives so much that they often leave up feeling stressed and tired. Why do you think people who live far away from noisy cities, who have no telephones, no car, not even any electricity often seem to be happier? Perhaps because they live simpler lives.

One family in the UK went “back in time” to see what life was like without all the inventions we have today. The grandparents, with their daughter, and grandsons Benjamin, 10 and Thomas, 7, spent nine weeks in a 1940s house. They had no washing machine, microwave, computer or mobile phones.

The grandmother, Lyn, said, “The more things you have, the more difficult life becomes.” The boys said they fought less. Probably, they said, because there was less to fight over, such as their computer. Benjamin also noticed that his grandmother had changed from being a “trendy, beer-drinking granny, to one who cooked things”

【1In the passage the writer describes a picture to show that new inventions _ .

    A. have speeded up our lives

    B. have improve the quality of our lives

    C. may make people feel very happy

    D. may bring people some trouble

【2The family chose to spend some time in a 1940s house because_____

    A. they loved to live simple lives

    B. they wanted to know how people lived without modern inventions

    C. they were troubled by modern inventions

    D. living in a different time would be a lot of fun for them

【3According to the passage, which id NOT right?

    A. People who live far away from noisy cities often seem to be happier.

    B. An unknown Roman was sure that the quality of life would get better.

    C. The family had some changes when they lived in a 1940s house.

    D. With the improvement of our lives, we often feel stressed and tired.

4The passage is mainly about __________

    A. problems with technology

    B. improvements of our lives with technology

    C. changes happening to technology

    D. the importance of technology
