24、 Wang Qi, 14:
I love taking online courses. They give me a lot more choices and freedom. We can choose to learn whatever we want. Also, online classes enable us to study whenever and wherever we want, which is very convenient.
Wu Jun, 13:
I don’t think taking online classes is a good way to study. There are many temptations ( 诱惑) on the Internet. Maybe students will play computer games while taking lessons. Or even they will contact with classmates through QQ or Wechat. Students can be distracted from their courses easily. The whole learning process is not as organized as it is in the classroom.
Zhou Siya, 13:
Online classrooms are beneficial. We might feel more focused on learning when we are alone in front of a computer with no one to distract us. In addition, taking courses online also means we can have more time to use a computer, which is a good way to practice our computer skills.
Li Chunjie, 14:

25、
It’s the year 2021. So where are all the flying cars? The large majority of people still get to work and school in boring, ground-bound cars. Not to mention buses, trains and bikes. Yet some still dream of a day when we can soar above the traffic on the ground.
In Singapore in 2019, the company Volocopter demonstrated (演示) a flying taxi. An electric engine powers the craft (飞行器), and it doesn’t need a runway. A pilot flew the test model. But in the near future, these helicopter-like vehicles will be able to fly by themselves while carrying two or more passengers and their things.
If some people traveled in flying taxis, there would be fewer cars on the roads, thus reducing traffic there. In the 3D space of the air, vehicles can move around each other without bridges or tunnels (隧道) or extra lanes. The taxis could also take off and land on rooftops, freeing up parking lot spaces on the ground. What’s more, flying is fun. Wouldn’t it be cool to move rapidly through the sky every day on your way to work or school?
However, there are quite a few good reasons why we don’t already have flying cars. The famous inventor Elon Musk runs the rocket company Space X and electric car company Tesla Motors. So he seems like the perfect person to make flying cars a reality. But he said, “If the sky was full of cars flying all over the place, it would affect how things look. It would be noisier and there would be a greater probability of something falling on your head.” And aircraft crashes would be more serious than car crashes.
Musk thinks building lots of tunnels underground is a safer way for future transportation. He even has a company working on this idea: The Boring Company. (The name is a play on words. “Boring” means “drilling a hole” and “uninteresting”.) What do you think? Are flying cars or taxis a good idea? Or should we find other ways to solve the world’s transportation problems?

26、 The world’s longest cross-sea bridge, the 55-km-long Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge(HZMB), opened on Oct 24, 2018. The bridge connects Hong Kong and Macao to the Chinese mainland city of Zhuhai. The construction of HZMB began in 2009 and cost about 120 billion yuan. The Guardian described it as one of the “seven wonders of the modern world” and would change the way people live.
The HZMB is unique in many ways. It is designed for a long service life of 120 years, which is 20 years longer than that of other bridges.
The HZMB also makes it much more convenient to travel between the three areas it connects. It will shorten the travel time from Hong Kong to Zhuhai to about 45 minutes, 3 hours earlier than before.
And it’s not just a bridge. In one section, the bridge turns into a 6.7-km undersea tunnel that passes through two man-made islands. The tunnel is the world's longest undersea tunnel for road traffic, allowing large ships to continue passing through the sea area above the tunnel.
By drawing local cities closer, the bridge will do good to the area's development. It is expected to drive the economic development of Hong Kong, Macao and nine Guangdong cities.
【1】What did the Guardian think of the HZMB?
A.HZMB cost too much money. B.HZMB would change people's life.
C.HZMB was more than just a bridge. D.HZMB was one of the seven wonders in the ancient world.
【2】Which statement is true about HZMB?
A.It took China 11 years to construct this bridge.
B.HZMB has a service life of 120 years, 20 years shorter than other bridges.
C.It's believed that HZMB will help the economic development of 11 cities.
D.The tunnel of HZMB can hardly allow ships to pass through the sea area above.
【3】What can we infer from the passage?
A.There are more than 2 man-made islands above the tunnels.
B.The economic development of all the cities in Guangdong can be developed.
C.People will spend more time travelling from Macao to Hong Kong than before.
D.Before Oct. 24, 2018, it took more than 3 hours to travel from Hong Kong to Zhuhai.
【4】Where is the text probably from?
A.A storybook. B.A history book.

27、 Programming Pain
Robots are useful and taking place of humans in some areas because they never get tired and can't feel pain. However, some researchers believe it's a good idea to program robots to feel pain.
Researchers from Leibniz University of Hannover in Germany are working to develop an artificial(人造的)robot nervous system to teach robots how to feel pain. "Pain is a system that protects us," said Johannes Kuehn, one of the researchers. "When we try to avoid the pain, it helps us not get hurt.”
Think about how many injuries you would receive if you couldn't feel pain. Even though pain hurts, it helps us avoid danger and treat our wounds. The same will be true for robots. As a great number of people work closely with robots, the robots must behave in a safer manner. Kuehn believes that by protecting robots from damage(伤害),they'll be protecting people as well. Damage,to robots if left unseen could lead to workplace accidents.
Rather than feel pain, some robots are designed to show pain or see it in others. Asada, an engineer at Osaka University in Japan, and his workmates have made sensors (传感器)that pick up many types of touch signals(信号).These touch and pain signals can turn into emotions and expressions on a robot’s face. Asada believes that these systems could finally lead to robots seeing the pain on human faces, an important skill for robots designed to care for elderly people, for example.
Antonio Damasio, a professor at the University of Southern California, argues that programming robots with a sense of pain may cause an artificial sense of feeling to develop. But he says that this communication is not the same thing as a robot truly feeling and expressing emotions or pain. If one day, robots could actually feel as humans do, Damasio has a suggestion for the number one rule for robots: Feel good.
【1】What does the word in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A.The feeling of pain. B.The injury we receive.
C.An artificial system. D.A new kind of robot.
【2】Which is the right process to show and see the pain?
① Turn signals into expressions.
② Notice pain on human faces.
③ Make some sensors.
④ Pick up touch signals.
A.③④①② B.③①②④ C.②③①④ D.②④①③
【3】What can express Antonio Damasio's attitude(态度)about the program?
A.Hopeless B.Opposite C.Expected D.Worried
【4】The aim of programming robots to feel pain is ________
A.to take place of humans B.to avoid human accidents
C.to control robots completely D.to serve humans better
28、New rules and behavior standards for middle school students came out. Who are considered excellent students? Middle schools use a new way to d【1】 that. The best students won't have good grades. They will also be kids who don’t dye (染) their hair, smoke o【2】 drink. The following are some of the new rules.
Tell the truth. Have you ever copied someone others’ work during an exam? Don't do that again! That’s not an h【3】 student should do. If you played computer games for two hours in your room, don’t tell your parents you were doing your homework.
Do more at school. Good students care for both animals and o【4】 people. April is Bird-Loving Month in China. Is your school doing anything to celebrate? You should join ! That way, you can learn more about animals and learn how to protect them. And when your classmates
are in trouble, remember to give them a h【5】. You know a friend in need is a friend
indeed.
Use Internet c【6】. The Internet can be very useful to your studies, but some things on the Internet aren’t for kids. So try to look at web pages that are good for you. You can use the web for fun or homework.
Be o【7】 to new ideas. Have you ever thought that people could live on the moon? Maybe you can discover a new planet someday. Don’t look down on new ideas. You should welcome them because new ideas can make life better.
