26、 If you’ve been in public in the past year or so, chances are you’ve noticed someone breaking dining etiquette(礼仪) that would seem second-nature to any adult. Why does our dining etiquette seem to be at an all-time low right now.
“Overall, there is much less feeling about the common good, which means caring about your neighbor---whether at home or in a restaurant,” said Steven, who writes articles for USA Today.
Take the use of cellphone at the table for example. While a 2015 survey by the Pew Research Center found that 38 percent of those surveyed thought it was acceptable to use their phones while dining out, the increasing number of cellphone bans in restaurant shows that restaurants aren’t putting up with it.
However, some look on the growing use of cellphones as a sign that manners change alongside our society.
“Manners change,” said the writer behind a food site The Takeout. “What we consider improper isn’t set in stone.” She points out the other “rules” that have since become outdated nowadays, like saying “Sir” and “Ma’am,” as proof of this change.
Yes, traditional manners are yet another thing being redefined by youth. “Younger people are growing up in a world with more flexible rules, and this spreads to the dining table,” said Daniel Levine, director of global trends consultancy The Avant-Guide Institute.
Whether you prefer high-end restaurants or a fast-casual meal, the biggest reason behind the decline of manners may just be a numbers game.
“I believe it is more likely for people to break dining ‘rules’ because they go out and eat more often,” said Diane Gottsman, owner of The Protocol School of Texas. “Years ago, people stayed home and sat around the family table. Today, there are more people in the workforce, which makes it more affordable for socializing and eating out. With new chance comes the possibility for more dining problems.”

A. they think they are unimportant.
B. they grew up with flexible rules.

【4】What’s the author’s purpose in writing this text?

28、 The coronavirus outbreak has sparked panic buying of toilet paper and cleaning products in countries across the world, but one UK businessman is determined to spread some happiness among the anxiety and confusion.
Rob Braddick, 48, who owns Braddick’s Holiday Park in Westward Ho, Devon, in the southwest of England, has filled the toy grabber machines in his amusement park with two of the country’s most sought-after cleaning products.
Customers could previously try their hand at grabbing “Frozen 2” or “Peter Rabbit” toys from the machines, but no more. “They got removed this morning,” Braddick said of the toys, replacing them with toilet roll and hand sanitizer (洗手液). Visitors can now pay 50p for three goes on the toilet roll grabber, or a go for Carex, which Braddick described as the “Rolls- Royce of hand sanitizers.”
Braddick said that his decision was born of a desire to make people feel less stressed in uncertain times. “It’s a bit of light relief with everything that’s going on,” he said. “Hopefully it will raise a smile, which I think everybody needs.”
Around the world, travel plans have been severely affected, and tens of millions of people remain at home as part of global efforts to fight against coronavirus. Supermarkets have seen shortages of toilet paper and hand sanitizer as anxious consumers stockpile the products.
Braddick said the family business, which has been running since 1932, has received more than a dozen calls from potential customers who say they don’t want to travel abroad for their holidays and would rather stay in the UK. As for his own measures against coronavirus, Braddick said staff have been told to wash their hands every half hour, which is particularly important for those handling money.

29、There’s a new AI bot: ChatGPT, and you’d better pay attention, even if you aren’t into artificial intelligence. The tool is an AI chatbot system that OpenAI released in November 2022 to show off and test what a very large, powerful AI system can achieve.
ChatGPT remembers the thread of your dialogue, using previous questions and answers to inform its next responses. It derives its answers from huge volumes of information on the Internet. ChatGPT is built on top of the OpenAI GPT-3 family of large language models and is fine-tuned (a method of transfer learning) using both supervised and reinforcement learning (监督和强化学习).
You can ask ChatGPT anything, like explaining physics, asking for birthday party ideas and getting programming (编程) help. Perhaps it’s not smart enough to replace all humans yet, but it can be creative, and its answers can sound downright authoritative. A few days after its launch, more than 1 million people were trying out ChatGPT. UBS analyst Lloyd Walmsley estimated in February 2023 that ChatGPT reached 100 million monthly users in January, accomplishing in 2 months what took TikTok about 9 months and Instagram two and a half years.
ChatGPT is free to use at the moment because it is still in its research phase. But when too many people hop onto the server (服务器), it overloads and can’t process your request. It just means you should try visiting the site at a later time when fewer people are trying to access it. If you want to skip the wait and have reliable access, there is an option for you. As of Feb.1, 2023, OpenAI has a ChatGPT pro plan, ChatGPT Plus, which allows users to have general access even during peak times. This service does come at a cost of $20 / month.’
However, ChatGPT can not replace Google. ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence bot that provides solutions to your questions, but Google is a search engine in which you can search for as much information as possible. ChatGPT has limited knowledge due to its programming but Google has unlimited knowledge which is updated every day.
【1】What does paragraph 2 mainly tell us about ChatGPT?
A.Its language model.
B.Its working theory.
C.Its design inspiration.
D.Its development process.
【2】Why does the author list figures in paragraph 3?
A.To show the popularity of ChatGPT.
B.To stress the high cost of inventing ChatGPT.
C.To present the creativity of artificial intelligence.
D.To prove the necessity of developing tools for chatting online.
【3】What is ChatGPT Plus intended for?
A.Guiding users to experience free services.
B.Allowing net surfers to skip advertisements.
C.Helping researchers detect the failure of the system.
D.Offering consumers priority access during peak hours.
【4】What is a limitation of ChatGPT compared with Google?
A.It operates based on limited data.
B.It takes more time to search for solutions.
C.It can only update information at a fixed time.
D.It may provide replies unrelated to the questions.

32、About five years ago, when the first generation of wearable fitness trackers became popular, they were announced as the _______of a revolution. Health experts and business people alike said that giving people _______ to real-time calorie-burning and step-count data would inspire them to lose weight, eat better and most importantly _______more. But even as the U.S. market for _______ devices hits $7 billion this year, there’s evidence that their promise isn’t quite paying off.
The U.S. has an exercise problem, _______ 28% of Americans aged 50 and over considered wholly _______. That means 31 million adults move no more than is necessary to perform the most basic functions of daily life. Wearables, experts_______, were going to change that. But limited academic research has been done to figure out whether wearables _______people’s behavior in the long term. The research that does exist isn’t _______. For a recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association, researchers wanted to see whether activity trackers would help overweight people lose more weight over two years than if they just did a weight-loss intervention alone. They didn’t. “We found that just giving people a device doesn’t mean it’s going to ________ something that you think it’s going to lead to,” says John Jakicic, the author of the study, from the University of Pittsburgh. “These activity trackers don’t engage people in strategies that make a ________ in terms of long-term change”
Another new study ________ a different challenge: user ________. By the end of a yearlong study of 800 people, just 10% of participants were still wearing the trackers, according to, Eric Finkelstein, a professor at the Duke-NUS Medical School in Singapore. “We didn’t find that Fitbits really have much of an effect,” he says. This may well be because people expect trackers to do something they’re not designed to do—________, force them to change their behaviors. “There’s __________among people about their function, a measurement tool and an intervention,” Finkelstein says. A scale counts pounds, for example, ________it won’t teach you how to eat less. “When people put these devices on, they might interact with the app for the first few weeks, maybe the first few months, but there comes a point where that starts to fall off,” says Finkelstein.
To be ________, some of the costlier and higher-tech wearables have features baked into them ________ encourage users to move more, says Shelten Yuen, Fitbit’s vice president of research. Among them are: shaking sensors, movement reminders and social-media combination, all designed to ________ users to make better health choices every day. But more research will be needed to determine whether or not these features or others like them— could ________ improve people’s health and fitness levels.

Andrea Lessing is a relatively new employee at Goodwill. Her job is sorting donated stuff. She has been working the job for about a month and a half and is already not surprised by some of the stuff she found.
People donate all kinds of things to Goodwill, and sometimes don’t always remember to empty out their pockets or purses before handing them over. It turns out that they can sometimes accidentally “ donate ” their cash too.
While going through a couple of sweaters, Andrea felt something extra heavy. At first, she thought that it was a pile of books, but then realized it was something more valuable. Wrapped inside the sweaters, she found piles of envelopes filled with $100 bills. All counted up, the money was worth $42,000. And no, the money wasn’t fake either. It was completely real!
Andrea, who’s also a mom, decided to do the right thing and report what she found. Thanks to identifying documents also left with the sweaters, the employees were able to trace the money back to its owner.
Normally, most people donate to Goodwill without leaving their identities. Or they at least try to keep their personal identifying information away from the clothing they donate. But in this instance, along with the forgotten money, the person who donated the sweater also forgot some documents that included their name.
For Andrea, returning the money was a no-brainer. She wants to try her best to put out positive energy. She also says that she was motivated by doing right for her daughter and being the best mom she can be.
Andrea explained, “ I have a daughter. I love her very much, and you can’t put a price on my daughter, and I know what could be risked if stealing that money. I do believe that if you do something good, it will come back to you. ”
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
