二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   Head injuries typically come from trauma (创伤) caused by hard or sharp objects. The skull does not have to be broken, but can be. If the skull is soft when touched, or missing, the victim is likely to have an open or depressed skull fracture (骨折). If a skull fracture is suspected, call 911 immediately.

A closed head injury is an injury to the brain inside an undamaged skull. Injury to the brain causes swelling, which quickly increases the pressure within the skull. The increased pressure causes more damage to the brain, which causes more swelling, and so on.

Some types of closed head injury stop the cycle automatically, while others will continue to get worse until the victim dies. The only way to tell the difference is through a CT scan, which looks at the brain and the skull using X-rays.

In all cases of injury to the head and neck, it’s vital not to move the victim at will. Support his or her head in the position you found it. Backbones can be injured from movement of the head during trauma. Broken or displaced backbones can cut or put pressure on the nerves of the spinal cord, causing temporary or permanent inability to move and loss of feeling.

Vomiting (呕吐) can lead to problems with the victim's airway. If the victim begins vomiting and is unconscious, place the victim in the recovery position to let the vomit flow from the victim’s mouth.

It is a misunderstanding that head injury victims should be kept awake. If a victim of trauma to the head does not have any of the signs or symptoms (症状) of a closed head injury or skull fracturethere is no reason to keep him or her awake. Once asleep, wake the victim up about 30 minutes later to make sure he or she can be aroused. If you are unable to wake him or her up. Call 911 immediately.

1What should we do when seeing a victim with a damaged skull?

    A.Call an ambulance right away.

B.Cover him or her with a blanket first.

C.Place him or her in a cool place as soon as possible.

D.Put him or her in the recovery position immediately.

2What can we infer about closed head injury from the text?

A.It will cause a drop in the pressure within the skull.

B.It is often accompanied by an open skull fracture.

C.It will make the brain swell worse and worse.

D.It can be of different types.

3According to the author, moving the victims with head injuries at will can__________.

A.cause them to vomit. B.do further injuries to them.

C.put great pressure on their skulls D.lead to their permanent loss of memory

4What does the last paragraph imply?

A.Not all the head-injured people need to stay awake.

B.Not all the vomiting stops naturally 30 minutes later.

C.Not all the victims of trauma to the head will be sleepy.

D.Not all the symptoms of closed head injury are noticeable

  • 27、   Greece restarted regular ferry (轮渡) services to its islands, and cafés and restaurants were also back open for business to rescue its tourism .

Travel to the islands had been generally off-limits since a lockdown was carried out in late March to stop the spread of the coronavirus, with only goods suppliers and locals allowed to enter. But the country’s low infection rate (感染率) in the COVID-19 pandemic encouraged the government to start the holiday season three weeks earlier than the expected June 15 date.

At Bairaktaris restaurant on central Monastiraki Square in Athens, waiters and other workers wearing face masks, prepared various dishes, arranged flowers on tables and waited for customers, who remained cautious. Social distancing rules and passenger limits have been introduced on ferries and at restaurants to prevent new infections. State-run health services to fight the coronavirus are being provided to the islands.

  • 28、   We humans love to stare into our smart devices. We gaze for hours—about 10 hours and 39 minutes a day—at our computers, smartphones, tablets and televisions. Is all this staring bad for us? It might be, mainly because as we stare at our devices we are exposing ourselves to blue light.

Blue light is a type of electromagnetic radiation with a very short wavelength that produces a high amount of energy. While it’s true that light can damage our eyes under certain circumstances, there’s no scientific evidence suggesting that blue light is harmful to our eyes. But many people still think it is, which is why blue—light—blocking glasses are so popular. So, do the glasses work?

“Everyone is very concerned that blue light may be causing damage to the eye, but there’s no evidence that it may be causing serious damage,” Dr.Rahul Khurana, a clinical spokesman, told Business Insider.

Blue light exposure is nothing new. In fact, the sun is the largest source of blue light. Moreover, blue light is also present in LED light. But if blue light isn’t harmful, then why are we constantly rubbing our eyes when we’re looking at our screens? The answer is eyestrain(眼疲劳). More than 60 percent of people experience eye problems associated with digital eyestrain. And blue light, it seems isn’t the cause. Instead, our eyes are so strained because most of us blink less when we stare at our digital devices. So, if eyestrain is the real issue, blue-light-blocking glasses are probably of little use.

1What do we know about blue light?

    A.It has the shortest wavelength.

B.It’s a kind of nuclear radiation.

C.It consumes a great deal of energy.

D.It may come from electronic devices.

2What causes the popularity of blue-light-blocking glasses?

A.Evidence of their benefits to eyes.

    B.Widespread use of smart devices.

C.Belief in blue light’s harmful effect.

    D.Scientific understanding of blue light.

3What can be inferred from Paragraph 4?

    A.Rubbing eyes makes people strained.

B.Blue light exposure is hardly avoidable.

C.Blue light may connect with tired eyes.

D.Eye problems are not easy to deal with.

4According to the text, wearing blue-light-blocking glasses may be _______.

    A.useless B.harmful C.tiring D.beneficial
