二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   Computer technology is still developing rapidly. The computer of the future will increase in value and performance while decrease in cost. It will become smaller, but faster and more powerful.

It is possible to make some guesses about what the future of the computer will look like, based upon the types of technologies that are being developed now. A lot of progress has already been made in some of these new technologies, but some are still in their earliest stages and may not be ready for use for years. Two of the most interesting areas of computing that are currently being developed are quantum computing(量子计算) and nanotechnology(纳米技术).

Quantum computing is one possibility for the future of the computer that could make computers run far faster than even the quickest computers do today. Quantum computers could be able to do what modern supercomputers are unable to do by using transistors that are able to take on many statistics at the same time.

Nanotechnology could also change the face of computing, by creating computers that could be very powerful, though they are tiny in size. These computers could be incorporated(并入) into everyday objects, including electrical appliances(电器), clothes and even the human body. We will be able to use computers in new and unimaginable ways. They will become a part of our lives rather than simply being a box that is used only for specific purposes such as work.

Quantum computing and nanotechnology will be able to play new roles, which will make us live greener lives, as well as enjoy better health and happier lives.

1According to the text, quantum computing ________.

A.has been put in use so far

B.can make computers run by themselves

C.can reduce the cost of computers

    D.will work by using transistors

2The text is mainly about ________.

    A.what nanotechnology is

    B.what quantum computing is

C.what the computer of the future is like

D.what future computers can bring us

3Which of the following best shows the structure of the text?

    (①=Paragraph 1, ②=Paragraph 2⑤=Paragraph 5)

    A. B.

    C. D.

  • 27、I’m a talker. I am keen on debating, gossiping and teasing when I have people to talk to. Under lockdown, however, I’ve only had my partner, Peter.

We not only lived, worked and travelled together, we mostly socialized together, too. Under the first UK lockdown, our already closeness began to feel uncomfortable. While talking to Peter, I could see his attention drift.

For the first time in our 10 years together, we needed to be alone. I tried to manufacture this by going on walks on my own, but a short walk wasn’t doing the job. I had hiked in remote spaces all over the world but always in a pair or group — for safety reasons. I considered my options and hit upon an idea: the semi-solo hike.

Could we do a circular hike but walk in different directions? This would give us the space and peace of a solo hike — done by a person alone. It felt like a promising way out, and he agreed to give it a try.

We started with a four-mile loop (环路) from Reeth. At the start, we parted ways. At first, I was aware of how close we were, which lessened the appeal. As I gained ground, however, I found myself very much alone. I set my own pace, and I decided to take my time.

I sat on a rock and breathed out. That moment — with the weak sun through the clouds and the breeze blowing — felt extraordinary to me. I was born and raised in London and had never imagined leaving until I met an outdoorsman. Now, my former life as a city girl felt crazy. In remembering what I had gained, I felt the tension leave me. There, in the chilly air, I no longer needed to talk. The semi-solo hike gave us a shared experience with added room to breathe.

I didn’t see Peter on the way but reunited back where we started, both pleased.

The semi-solo hike is admittedly silly in theory, but for me it has been a lifeline. It has given me the gift of time alone and, in a year of constant closeness, the joy of reuniting.

【1】What motivated the author to adopt the semi-solo hike?

    A.Peter’s disinterest in her words.

B.Her habit of venturing into the wild.

C.The lack of privacy under lockdown.

D.Her desire to engage in outdoor exercise.

【2】How does the semi-solo hike work?

A.Their routes coincide sometimes during the hike.

B.They depart in a separate way to different destinations.

C.They hike in each other’s company throughout the journey.

D.They start and return to the same place by a different route.

【3】Which of the following can describe the author’s feelings when she sat on a rock?

    A.Fearless and refreshed.

    B.Free and relaxed.

    C.Tense and depressed.

    D.Upset and embarrassed.

【4】What message does the author convey with this text?

    A.An appropriate distance creates beauty.

B.There are more solutions than difficulties.

C.Access to nature is better than social circles.

    D.Hiking helps improve interpersonal relationships.

  • 28、   If medical workers are at the center of the fight against COVID-19, media professionals are the ones right behind them.

“For the first time in my career, I felt it could cost my life,” said Liao Jun, a reporter of Xinhua News Agency, at a media briefing (简报) in Wuhan on March 8, according to China Daily. Liao has been reporting the disease by visiting hospitals and local communities for months. “My colleagues call me ‘the iron lady’,” she said. “For reporters, regardless of gender, it’s our responsibility and duty to go to the core infection zones and listen to people’s stories.”

That sense of mission can’t be stopped. Zhan Song, a Changjiang Daily reporter, has been reporting in Wuhan. “If I do get infected someday, I think I’ll start livestreaming (直播) interviews at whichever hospital I may land in and report about patients’ lives there,” he said.

Reporters outside Wuhan may not face the same level of risk, but they are also doing whatever they can to get to the center of the news. Li Xueqing, for example, is a China Daily reporter, based in New York. She wrote a story about a group of Wuhan University schoolmates in New York who volunteered to donate medical equipment to hospitals in Wuhan. She thought about doing the interview over the phone, but she changed her mind.

“Anyone from inside China can do a phone interview,” said Li. “That’s not why I’m here.”

So she started to tag along with the volunteers, watching them do everything – from staying up late contacting the suppliers to dealing with piles of shipping paperwork. “After the story was published online, I saw a comment below that said, ‘Thank you for letting me see all the details behind the scenes.’ I knew it was all worth it,” said Li.

As medical workers continue to fight on the front line, we must remember the ones who also risk their lives to deliver our daily news: the media.

1What can we learn about Liao Jun as a journalist from the passage?

A.She started to work in Wuhan on March 8.

B.She attends media briefings in Wuhan every day.

C.She has been reporting first-hand on the disease.

D.She volunteers to help in hospitals and communities.

2What did Li Xueqing write about in her story?

A.The spread of COVID-19 in New York.

B.The latest news on the outbreak in China.

C.The efforts some volunteers made to help Wuhan.

D.The challenges faced by medical workers in Wuhan.

3The underlined part “tag along” in Paragraph 5 probably means “ ___”.

    A.go along B.have fun C.make donations D.search around

4What do the three reporters mentioned have in common?

A.They went to Wuhan to report the outbreak.

B.They have fulfilled their professional responsibilities.

C.They got infected while they were reporting on the disease.

D.They risked their lives to interview the COVID-19 patients.

  • 29、   When you’ve finished your studies at school and college, do you feel like a well-earned rest? If you’re about to take up a course at university, you’ll want to recharge your batteries and have some fun. But how long should you do that for? 1

A year off—also called a gap year—is a period of time when a student takes a break before going to university. 2 But there’s now a focus on making the most of this break from academic life. Long gone are the days of just hanging out on a beach or traveling abroad. 3 Doing something productive is exactly what students are being encouraged to do because doing more purposeful things helps them acquire skills to use when competing for a place at university.

4 A student, Tom, told the BBC “it would have been too expensive and it’s not something that I would have been able to rely on my parents or family members for.” But some experts say that it needn’t burn a hole in your pocket. You don’t need to travel far and you can even earn money by doing paid work.

For those who do have the funds, a combination of working, volunteering and travelling is undoubtedly an amazing opportunity. 5 It also gives you time to think whether university is right for you.

    A.It’s not a new idea.

B.It is important to have fun.

C.Now the idea of taking a year off seems to be the thing to do.

D.There’s a common thought that gap years are only for rich students

E.A gap year is now more about gaining skills that will help you in later life.

F.It increases confidence and independence and gives you a chance to learn new skills.

G.While the benefits of taking a gap year are clear, some students worry they can’t afford it.

Chinese medical expert have warned that antibiotics (抗生素)are “ 1 overused” in hospitals, which may cause serious side-effects for the health of an entire generation.

According to the ministry, 70 percent of Chinese inpatients have received antibiotics, while the maximum number set by the World Health Organization is 30 percent. About 97 percent of 2 patients used antibiotics but research showed that a large number of them could avoid the need if hospitals conducted proper sanitation(公共卫生)measures.

Particularly, antibiotics are overused in the 3 of children. Nearly one third of the daily 10,000 outpatients at the Beijing children’s Hospital take intravenous drips(静脉输液)that largely contain antibiotics.

“Some doctors might lack proper training on how to 4antibiotics in a more precise way and avoid 5risks. Some simply want to play it safe,” said Zhu Zhenggang, president of Shanghai-based Ruijin Hospital.

The ministry 6 a nationwide campaign over the past six months to 7 the use of antibiotics. Vice Health Minister Ma Xiaowei admitted that the government faces great challenges as many public hospitals have 8 supervision on prescription(处方)safety under heavy pressure from patients.

Insiders also noted that the overuse of antibiotics was partly 9by profit-seeking pharmacy (制药)firms.

About 60 percent of the newly 10 medicines by the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) last year were antibiotics. According to the SFDA, the country reported 690,000 cases of adverse drug reactions caused by abuse of medicine, including 600 deaths in 2010.
