二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   Inside Out is one of my favorite Disney / Pixar movies. The story is about a young girl named Riley who moves from Minnesota to San Francisco with her family and how she deals with her emotions (情感) through the move. These five emotions in Riley's brain are Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust (厌恶) and Sadness. These emotions play a very important role in her life. I can understand because I am an 11-year-old girl and I am very in touch with my emotions and pre-teen feelings.

The film is extremely beautiful and you couldn't ask for better direction from Pete Doctor. The use of the right colors for the characters is great. For example, Joy is yellow, Sadness is blue, Disgust is green, Fear is purple and Anger of course is red. Sadness plays a main role in the story and it makes me wonder why we are told not to be sad. I think it's important to be sad when the time comes. The end of the movie pretty much got me and the whole audience (观众) (families, couples and even elderly people) in tears and I cried very hard.

I recommend (推荐) this movie for anyone from 8 to 18 because it has enough joy in it for younger kids to like it even though it does have some sad moments. I believe that adults will like it too. And I give it 4 out of 5 stars because it connects to an older audience even though it is designed for a younger audience. I think younger children can see this, but a parent would have to explain some things to them after the movie.

1The author feels connected with the movie because she and the character Riley _____.

    A. enjoy the same movie B. have the same feelings

    C. have the same move experience D. have a similar family background

2What does the author think of Pete Doctor's job?

    A. Wonderful. B. Just so-so.

    C. Bad. D. Disappointing.

3After seeing the movie, the author has a new understanding of _____.

    A. fear B. sadness

    C. anger D. joy

    4In the author's eyes, the movie _____.

    A. won't attract people over 18 B. is really unsuitable for children

    C. will be popular among kids and adults D. can easily be understood by younger kids

  • 27、   It is well-known that twins are closer to each other than most brothers and sisters -- after all, they probably spend more time with each other. Parents of twins often notice that they develop special ways of communicating: they invent their own words and one can often finish the other's sentence. In exceptional(例外) circumstances(情况), this closeness becomes more extreme: they invent a whole language of their own, as in the case of Grace and Virginia Kennedy from Georgia in the USA, who communicated so successfully in their own special language that they did not speak any English at all until after they started school.

However, these special relationships are the result of lives spent almost entirely in each other's company. What happens when twins do not grow up together, when they are separated at birth for some reason? Are they just like any other strangers, or are there still special similarities between them? Professor Tom Bouchard of the University of Minnesota set out to find the answer to this question. He traced(追踪) sixteen pairs of twins, who were adopted by different families when they were babies, and often brought up in very different circumstances. Each twin was then interviewed about every small detail of their life.

The results of this research make a surprising reading. Many of the twins were found to have the same hobbies, many have suffered the same illnesses, and some have even had the same type of accident at the same point in their lives. One pair of middle-aged women arrived for their first meeting in similar dresses, another pair were wearing similar jewellery. The most incredible (unbelievable) similarities are to be found in the case of Jim Springer and Jim Lewis from Ohio in the USA. The story of the 'Jim Twins' made headline news across USA. Born to an immigrant woman in 1939, and adopted by different families at birth, both babies were named Jim by their new parents.

But what can be the explanation for these remarkable similarities? Is it all pure coincidence, or is the explanation in some way genetic? Research into the lives of twins is forcing some experts to admit that our personalities may be at least partly due to 'nature'. On the other hand, analysts are also anxious to emphasis(强调) that incredible coincidences do happen all the time, not just in the lives of twins.

1The case of Grace and Virginia Kennedy (Para. 1) is to show that ______.

A.twins communicate with each other in an unusual way.

B.twins are more likely to suffer from speaking problems.

C.most twins have exceptional abilities to invent a new language.

D.twins won’t have an effective communication until they go to school.

2The purpose of Tom Bouchard’s study is to find ______.

A.what will happen if twins spend lives entirely in the same company.

B.why the 16 pairs of twins have been adopted by different families.

C.whether separated growing up has effect on twins’ special similarities.

D.when the special similarities come into being during their growing up.

3What does the word “reading” in Paragraph 3 most probably mean?

    A.Book. B.Explanation.

    C.Literature. D.Measurement.

4According to Tom Bouchard’s research, the special similarities between twins ______.

A.depend on what the twins enjoy and suffer from.

B.can not be proved or accepted by all the experts.

C.result from the twins’ growing up and development.

D.are not closely linked with where the twins are raised.

  • 28、When she was 2 years old, Blosberg’s dad was diagnosed with a serious illness that disrupts the central nervous system — MS. But 13 years later, her eyes started moving around rapidly and uncontrollably and her skin became extremely sensitive. The symptoms she was experiencing felt “familiar” because they really looked a lot like the things that her dad was experiencing.

After Blosberg was officially diagnosed with MS in 2011, she realized she needed to connect with other teenagers who had MS and truly understood what she was going through. “I knew there had to be other kids out there, and I wanted to connect with them,” she says. Blosberg then decided to create a Facebook page for young people with MS and obtained the help of the National MS Society. “If you find anyone else young, let me know,” Blosberg recalls saying to the organization. “I want to talk to them. I want them to know that they’re not alone.”

MS is often considered “an adult illness”. Blosberg’s Facebook page was her way of bringing young people with MS together. But she decided to take things one step further by founding a nonprofit, the MS Monkey, which supports children and teenagers who have been diagnosed with the illness. Through it all, Blosberg says her entire family has been proud of her — especially her father. “He knows what it’s like to live with MS,” she shares. “He’s my role model, though. • 29、   Nowadays with the development of technology people have gradually relied on the mobile phones seriously. Many people especially the younger generation like to use social media to connect with others. However everyone is ignoring an important point- face-to-face communication between people is missing.

Social media is all about connecting with others. But a new study suggests that too much social media use leads to disconnection and loneliness. The study finds that heavy use of platforms such as Facebook Snapchat and Instagram is associated with feelings of isolation among young adults.

Brian Primack and his team in the study surveyed that 1787 U.S. adults aged 19to 32 and asked them about their usage of 11 social media platforms. Surprisinglypeople that spend more time on social media feel lonelier than others.

Tom Kersting a psychotherapist said“Although people think being on social media all the time makes them‘connected’ to others they are actually‘disconnected’because the more time one spends behind a screen the less time one spends face-to-face.”Kersting continued. “They are spending a lot of time looking at everyone else’s posts where they are where they are going and what they are doing. The constant connection to everyone else’s‘perfect’life experiences causes feelings of being left out and of being lonely.”

So what’s the answer?“It’s simple” says Kersting—although it does involve a significant amount of willpower.“The solution to this is refusing the addiction to look at everyone else’s life.Just focus on your own life where you’re going what you are grateful for and what you want to achieve in this world. Then go out and do it andstop wasting so much time comparing.”
