26、 The Nobel Prize-winning Mexican writer Octavio Paz said, “The art of the festival has been debased(下降) almost everywhere else, but not in Mexico.” Here are several events that would have made him proud:
Morelia International Film Festival
The Morelia film fest really brings this colonial city to life in mid-October. Created as a platform for documentaries and fiction works, the programming offers an up-close look at Mexican society as seen through the eyes of a new generation of filmmakers. Fashionable bars and sidewalk cafes are buzzing with activity around the main square, where crowds gather nightly for open-air screenings and other cultural events.
Day of the Dead
Each year on November 1st and 2nd, Mexico turns its thoughts to the departed during the Day of the Dead festivities, a colorful tradition deeply rooted in native culture. For Mexicans, death is more a cause for celebration than mourning, and that spirit has been kept very much alive in Pátzcuaro, the Día de Muertos mecca. Prepare yourself to battle large crowds of the living.
Carnival in Veracruz &Mazatlán
Mexico hosts many carnival celebrations every year featuring exciting parades, dance performances, live music and of course, big-time partying. The nine-day event in Veracruz, Mexico’s biggest carnival, usually kicks off in March, right around the same time when festivities get started on the Pacific coast in Mazatlán. You can shake your body with salsa music in Veracruz or the brass band sounds of Mazatlán.
La Morisma
An all-out war erupts on the streets of colonial Zacatecas, usually around late August. OK, well, it’s actually a mock battle with well over 2,000 participants re-enacting battles between the Christians and Moors in old Spain. The faux(假的)soldiers attack one another while accompanied on the streets by bands of musicians.

27、 Vegetarianism is growing in popularity in a lot of countries. And now, South Africa is one of them. Today, more and more South Africans are experimenting with the vegetarian (素食者) way of life by cutting meat out of their diet.
Some others are exploring veganism. Vegans (纯素者) are similar to vegetarians but they avoid all animal based products, including mike and eggs. Some vegans even do not eat honey. There is no official count of how many vegans there are in South Africa. But the interest has led to the birth of vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Johannesburg, the nation's economic center. And this year, Africa's first big vegan and plant-based festival was held in Cape Town. The Vegan & Plant Powered Show took place at the end of May.
But veganism can be a lonely road for many South Africans. The country is Africa's top consumer of meat from cows, pigs and sheep, based on information from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Many South Africans express shock at the thought of giving up meat, which is central to celebrations and spirituality.
This is an issue for many African vegans, including Anesu Mbizvo. “In African traditional culture, a big part of a family's worth is their livestock (家畜), which decide the wealth of a family. And so when an African kills an animal at a gathering, it's thought that he would give away his wealth.” But she adds, “Offering home grown vegetables would not be considered to be valuable. I think that thought mainly prevents some people of African cultures from being vegans.”
Some South Africans are finding their path somewhere in the middle, Thirty-one-year-old Thandiwe Ngubeni is a communications specialist. She still eats meat but less and less of it as time goes by. “I feel more energetic when I eat a vegan meal. It actually gives me more energy.”
【1】What can we learn about vegans?
A.They can drink milk. B.They eat some animal meat.
C.They enjoy opening vegan restaurants. D.They refuse any product based on animals.

A.Too many animals in the wild. B.Traditional views of livestock.
C.The influence from other countries. D.Not enough vegetables in the restaurant.
【3】What do we know about Thandiwe Ngubeni?
A.She is a vegan. B.She is an animal specialist.
C.She expects to eat more meat. D.She eats less and less meat.

A.Vegans'Behaviors Are Too Extreme. B.Vegetarians Are Not Popular Any Longer.
C.Many South Africans Welcome a Vegan Lifestyle. D.Meat in South Africa Will Become Less Delicious.
28、Green Transport Week
Transportation is one aspect we cannot do without it this day. However, the current transportation systems come along with a wide range of problems including global warming, environmental worsening, health implications (physical, emotional, mental, spiritual), and emission (排放) of greenhouse gases. In fact, the transport sector takes up 23% of the globe’ s greenhouse gas emission resulting from burning of fossil fuels. Out of the total greenhouse gas emissions, road transport takes up a lion share, 75% to be exact and this trend is to increase in the future. All this puts lot of pressure on the national governments to work out policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well as oil demands.
Figures show that over 90% of all road transportation relies on oil. This figure almost goes hand- in- hand with the total global oil consumption, which stands at 60%. All these have caught the eyes of most governments and policies are being made to change this worrying trend of air pollution.
For example, car use is at an all-time high in Britain, and as the roads get busier, green transport—by foot and bike— gets more and more difficult. The car is being used for increasingly short journeys, as a proportion of all car journeys, 24% are less than 2 miles and 58% are less than 5 miles. The car accounts for 81% of our journeys, walking for only 3% and cycling for 0.5%.
Therefore, the ETA set up the first Green Transport Week in order to raise awareness of the part transport has to play in the areas of personal safety, quality of life and health—as well as its broader global effect on our environment.
In the past we have used Green Transport Week as a celebration of sustainable (可持续性的) transport and as an opportunity to launch a number of national campaigns such as Walk to School Day and Pop-Up Zebra Crossing. Green Transport Week is the most effective way to get a debate going about transport issues in your area, and to spread awareness of the relationship between transport and the environment in schools and workplaces.
【1】What problems does the present transportation systems cause?
A.Global warming and environmental problems.
B.Emission of greenhouse gases and garbage problems.

D.Oil demands.
【3】What is used most in Britain?
A.Walking.
B.Cycling.
C.Cars.
D.Subways.

29、 One of the most popular street food found in China is no doubt the barbecue. A new program, called Chinese Barbecue, tells the story of this popular food cooked over hot coals on just about every street corner in cities and towns across the country. Barbecued meat is an important part of people’s nightlife.
Shown on June 20, the program has had more than 25 million clicks on the video site bilibili.com. To find the most popular barbecue stalls (摊位), the production team travelled to more than 500 locations in 30 cities across the country. Some viewers compare Chinese Barbecue to Midnight Diner, a Japanese TV program telling stories from late night informal Japanese bars.
“I’m happy to hear this comparison because Midnight Diner is a good program, and we share the same topic― night food,” Chinese Barbecue’s director Chen Yingjie said. “However, they are quite different.” He said that Midnight Diner focused more on food itself, though there was some conversation while people were eating. However, the night food scene of Chinese people means joy and a more lively atmosphere. People eating these barbecue snacks develop a feeling of connection, which can be a cure for loneliness.
The barbecue, regarded as the most ordinary and common night street snack, is different from home-made food by mothers as that is a symbol of family and kinship. The barbecue is where you go to become connected to people in society. And unlike official business lunches, during which people are rather polite, the barbecue lets people relax with old friends and new friends, leaving a lasting impression of friendship.
The world, as a whole, holds deep-rooted good feelings toward the barbecue, either for the taste or the warmth produced by fire. “What we should do is to present the Chinese barbecue just the way it is because with its special ingredients(食材),ways of cooking and more importantly, the special environment and people, the world will recognize it and might fall in love with it just as we do.” said Chen.

【4】Why did Chen Yingjie choose the barbecue as the topic of the series?
