We live in a world where learning English as a second language is pretty important. Not only is it for our study, but also a second language brings us 【1】 to get to know a new culture. However, learning English is much more than simply 【2】 the meaning of words in your language.
As a good English 【3】, you may have already known it is not smart to translate the meaning of a sentence word 【4】 word. Let’s take the example of the sentence “How’s it going?”. 【5】 up each of the words in the dictionary and put all the meanings together. What do you get? Perhaps you can’t understand the 【6】.
Communication is never just about putting words together. You’ll need to put them in the right order. If a speaker makes the order wrong, others will have difficulty 【7】 him. Usually, when the order of words is changed, the meaning of the sentence is changed, too. For example, “She only reads Newsweek.” is 【8】 from “Only she reads Newsweek.” However, sometimes a change in the word order doesn’t change the meaning of the sentence.
Good learners have to learn 【9】 than words. 【10】 they read more, they will be able to know quickly which words go well together and which don’t.
Once you are very good at this, your spoken English will be better.
