  • 1、   There is a tradition at my school that when Changsha High School Entrance Examination is less than a month away, students in the lower grades, from Grade 7 to Grade 8, all gather together on the ground in front of the teaching building and cheer on the Grade 9 students who are standing upstairs.1. It wasn’t until I took part in the activity in person that I understood the true meaning of it.

    2. 那时我上7年级。On that special night, all the Grade 9 students stood in the hallways and looked down at the younger students below. Various cheers started to resound throughout the school, wave after wave. “Believe in yourself! You will succeed!”

Seeing everyone’s smiling face around us,3.我们想起了一句著名的格言。It’s from the American philosopher (哲学家) Henry David Thoreau, 4.“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.

Soon it will be my turn to receive blessing in this way.5. That also means we will have to say goodbye to our school. Although it will be sad, being cheered on by so many students will still be one of the brightest time of my life.

  • 25、   Diabetes is caused by a group of metabolic disorders in which there are high blood sugar levels over a long period of time. There are three main types of diabetes:

·Type 1 Diabetes results from the body not having enough insulin.

·Type 2 Diabetes mainly happens to those who do not have enough physical exercise, eat too much unhealthy food and get too heavy.

·Gestational Diabetes is the third main form. It appears when a woman is having a baby. She will probably get well again after the birth of the baby.

Diabetes can bring serious problems. People with diabetes, especially Type 1, will easily get thirsty and hungry, and quickly lose weight. If it is not treated, it will develop rapidly(weeks or months), and cause many long-term complications. All the complications relate to damage to blood vessels. For example, damage to the eyes. It is caused by damage to the blood vessels in the eyes, and results in gradual vision loss and blindness. The complications will greatly increase the risk of diabetes, by which about 75% of the deaths are caused.

According to a report from the WHO(World Health Organization) in 2015, about 415 million people have diabetes worldwide, which means 8.3% of the adults in the world have diabetes. Of all the cases, 85% to 90% are Type 2 Diabetes. That is to say, most cases of diabetes result from the unhealthy lifestyle. Diabetes doubles a person’s risk of early death. From 2012 to 2015, about1.5 to 5 million deaths each year resulted from this disease. The global economic cost of diabetes in 2014 was around 612 billion USD.

A healthy lifestyle can help prevent diabetes. Doing a lot of physical activities and having a healthy diet will help have normal body weight. Higher levels of physical activity(more than 90 minutes per day) can reduce the risk of diabetes by 28%. Healthy diet includes foods rich in whole grains and fiber, foods with good fats from nuts, vegetable oils and fish, little sugar, and less red meat.

    1Diabetes is .

A.a serious disease B.damage to blood vessels

C.an unhealthy lifestyle D.an unusual blood sugar level

2According to the passage, what problem can diabetes cause?

A.A person gets too heavy. B.A person doesn’t want to eat.

C.A person becomes blind. D.A woman will not have a baby.

3The WHO report (2015) tells us that in the world .

A.8.3% of the people have diabetes

B.5% to 90% of the adults have Type 2 Diabetes

C.about 1.5 to 5 million people died of diabetes every year

D.the economic cost of diabetes was about 612 billion USD in 2014

  • 26、   Programming Pain

Robots are useful and taking place of humans in some areas because they never get tired and can't feel pain. However, some researchers believe it's a good idea to program robots to feel pain.

Researchers from Leibniz University of Hannover in Germany are working to develop an artificial(人造的)robot nervous system to teach robots how to feel pain. "Pain is a system that protects us," said Johannes Kuehn, one of the researchers. "When we try to avoid the pain, it helps us not get hurt.”

Think about how many injuries you would receive if you couldn't feel pain. Even though pain hurts, it helps us avoid danger and treat our wounds. The same will be true for robots. As a great number of people work closely with robots, the robots must behave in a safer manner. Kuehn believes that by protecting robots from damage(伤害),they'll be protecting people as well. Damage,to robots if left unseen could lead to workplace accidents.

Rather than feel pain, some robots are designed to show pain or see it in others. Asada, an engineer at Osaka University in Japan, and his workmates have made sensors (传感器)that pick up many types of touch signals(信号).These touch and pain signals can turn into emotions and expressions on a robot’s face. Asada believes that these systems could finally lead to robots seeing the pain on human faces, an important skill for robots designed to care for elderly people, for example.

Antonio Damasio, a professor at the University of Southern California, argues that programming robots with a sense of pain may cause an artificial sense of feeling to develop. But he says that this communication is not the same thing as a robot truly feeling and expressing emotions or pain. If one day, robots could actually feel as humans do, Damasio has a suggestion for the number one rule for robots: Feel good.

1What does the word in Paragraph 3 refer to?

A.The feeling of pain. B.The injury we receive.

C.An artificial system. D.A new kind of robot.

2Which is the right process to show and see the pain?

    Turn signals into expressions.

    Notice pain on human faces.

    Make some sensors.

    Pick up touch signals.

    A.③④①② B.③①②④ C.②③①④ D.②④①③

3What can express Antonio Damasio's attitude(态度)about the program?

    A.Hopeless B.Opposite C.Expected D.Worried

4The aim of programming robots to feel pain is  ________

A.to take place of humans B.to avoid human accidents

C.to control robots completely D.to serve humans better

  • 27、Many years ago, I had my first chance to visit Russia. “Russians are a very polite people,” I had been told before my arrival. One of my friends explained that a gentleman will pour the lemonade(柠檬水) for the ladies and show other good manners.

Toward the end of my three-week trip, I was invited by my Russian friend Nicolai Vasilevich and his wife Yulya out to dinner. At the end of a wonderful meal, Yulya asked if I would like a banana. I politely declined (婉谢) and thanked her, and explained I was most satisfied(满意的) with the meal. But my mind was racing: “What should I do? Should I offer her a banana though they are as close to her as they are to me? What is the polite thing to do?”

“Would you like a banana?” I asked Yulya.

“Yes,” she smiled, but didn’t try to take any of the three bananas in the fruit basket.

“Which one would you like?” I asked again.

“That one,” she pointed at one of the bananas. So thinking about Russian politeness, I picked the banana Yulya had pointed at. Then I peeled it half way and handed it to her.  Smiles on Yulya’s and Nicolai’s faces told me I had done the right thing. After this experience, I spent much time letting the world know that in Russia, the polite thing was to peel bananas for ladies.

However, sometime during my third trip I learned I was wrong.

“Oh no, David,” a Russian politely corrected me. “In Russia, when a man peels a banana for a lady, it means he has a romantic(浪漫的)interest in her. How embarrassed (尴尬) I felt.

So to communicate properly with people of different cultures, we should watch carefully how people of the same culture communicate with each other. Besides, don’t be afraid to ask questions about their culture.

【1】Before his first visit to Russia, the writer learned Russian gentlemen are polite to ___.

    A. took the skin off something

    B. put something back

    A. The writer’s third trip lasted about three weeks.

    B. Russian gentlemen never peel bananas for ladies.

    C. The writer tried to follow Russians’ behavior in Russia.

    D. Yulya was pleased with the writer’s behavior but Nicolai wasn’t.

【4】The writer wrote the passage mainly to ______.

    A. show us how polite Russian people are

    B. tell us his funny experience in Russia
