21、Started in 1636, Harvard University is the oldest of all the many colleges and universities in the United States. Yale, Princeton, Columbia and Dartmouth were opened soon after Harvard.
In the early years, these schools were much alike. Only young men went to colleges. All the students studied the same subjects, and everyone learned Latin, Greek and Hebrew. Little was known about science then, and one kind of school could teach everything that was known about the world. When the students graduated, most of them become ministers or teachers.
In 1782, Harvard started a medical school for young men who wanted to become doctors. Later, lawyers could receive their training in Harvard’s law school. In 1825, besides Latin and Greek, Harvard began teaching modern languages, such as French and German. Soon it began teaching American history.
As knowledge increased, Harvard and other colleges began to teach many new subjects. Students were allowed to choose the subjects that interested them.
Today there are many different kinds of colleges and universities. Most of them are made up of smaller schools that deal with special fields of learning. There’s so much to learn that one kind of school can’ offer it all.
【1】From the second paragraph, we can see that in the early years, ______.
A. those colleges and universities were almost the same
B. people, young or old, might study in the colleges
C. the students studied only some languages and science
D. when the students finished their school, they became lawyers or teachers

22、Have you ever considered why you begin yawning too when you see someone yawn? Or how hard it is to be among people laughing and not laugh yourself? Well, apparently it's because we have mirror neurons (神经元)in our brains.
Put simply, the existence of mirror neurons suggests that every time we see someone else do something, our brains imitate it whether or not we actually perform the same action. This explains a great deal about how, we learn to smile, talk, walk, dance or play sports. But the idea goes further: mirror neurons not only appear to explain physical actions, they also tell us that there is a biological basis for the way we understand other people.
Mirror neurons can undoubtedly be found all over our brains, but especially in the areas which relate to our ability to use languages, and to understand how other people feel. Researchers have found that mirror neurons relate strongly to language. A group of researchers discovered that if they gave people sentences to listen to ( for example: “The hand took hold of the ball” ) , the same mirror neurons were triggered as when the action was actually performed (in this example, actually taking hold of a ball).
Any problems with mirror neurons may well result in problems with behavior. Much research suggests that people with social and behavioral problems have mirror neurons which are not fully functioning. However, it is not yet known exactly how these discoveries might help find treatments for social disorders.
Research into mirror neurons seems to provide us with even more information regarding how humans behave and interact. Indeed, it may turn out to be the equivalent (相等物)for neuroscience of what Einstein's theory of relativity was for physics. And the next time you feel the urge to cough in the cinema when someone else does — well, perhaps you'll understand why.
【1】Mirror neurons can explain _____
A. why we smile when we see someone else smile
B. why we yawn when we see someone else stay up late
C. why we cry when we are hurt
D. why we cough when we suffer from a cold
【2】The underlined word "triggered" in the third paragraph probably means “_____’’.
A. built up B. broken up

C. result in bad behavior and social disorders
D. relate to human behavior and interaction
【4】What is the passage mainly about?
A. Ways to find mirror neurons.
B. Problems of mirror neurons.

23、In the year 2024,NASA plans to send astronauts to the moon. It will be the first time since 1970 that humans have touched down on Earth's only natural satellite. The task will also include the first woman to travel to the moon.
NASA will have a cool new tool to help it with this task: the Unified Geologic Map of the Moon, which was released by the United States Geological survey (USGS) in April. This is a topographical (地形上的) map——that is,it shows physical features, such as the height of mountains and the depth of valleys.
The new moon map took more than 50 years to make. It started with six original maps collected by cameras attached to orbiting satellites. One camera took wide-angle pictures of the moon. The other made topographical pictures by shooting laser at the moon's surface. Then all those pictures were laid on top of the map scans. With the pictures pieced together,we can see the moon's layers and tell the difference between its terrains(地形).
There are ancient highlands which were made when asteroids(小行星) crashed into the moon. They show up on the map in bright yellow. There are low-lying lava plains (熔岩平原) which formed when volcanoes erupted from 10 million to a million years ago. These show up as warm reds and pinks.
USGS geologist James Skinners the map is still not detailed enough to let NASA scientists decide whether a particular spot would make a good landing site, but it is a good foundation for their next studies.“Everything can be improved upon,”James adds.

A.It should have more colors
B.It's of little value to NASA scientists
